for a lot of men, their girlfriend or wife is the only person they can talk to about their feelings or other intimate/personal things that would be weird to discuss with other males. This might be a reason why men feel numb and take a lot longer to recover due to the lack of social or emotional support.

As a man I am starting to realize, it is not that men aren't talking or should talk more, we cope with emotion in a completely different way than does a woman. we process our emotions with movement and activity based coping, I think our neuro-anatomy and physiology lends itself to making a man a slightly less efficient talker of emotions, and naturally a better doer of emotions via actions...

The best connection on why men would have a harder time with a break up is because there is no emotional support. If you show off your emotional/sensitive side to your family most likely they'll tell you to stop whining and man up. If you show your self to a female friend they will tell you how unattractive you're acting (and that's if they're frank with you). And guy friends don't even know what to do in a situation is right in front of them. Hopefully, there are a few friends that are willing to talk about the situation of a break up with full support with no awkwardness or uncomfortably.
Compare that to a women who are given full support with almost everyone and not be looked down upon by showing their sensitive side.

It's always "Man up," "Don't act like a little girl," or "Stop being a pussy." Because after all, Men are feeling-less assholes and if you have feelings, you must be a woman.

I think women fall in love faster, but they also fall OUT of love faster. Their attraction to a man is very much based on feelings and emotions, and these emotions can fluctuate wildly. Men take longer to develop feelings, but they can stay on for a long time after the relationship is over.

I found a girl who was definitely a “one” for me. The feeling was unlike anything else I’ve experienced. Being with her made me feel at peace with myself and with everything. She was the most beautiful person I’ve met. I screwed up and lost her. I didn’t know I could feel so miserable. The magnitude of the regret is unbelievable. I went over those events in my mind a thousand times. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to find another girl who makes me feel the way she made me feel. I’ll find her, or else die tired and alone. But, when I find her, I’ll make her my wife, and she’ll be the luckiest girl on Earth. I wish I could have given that to the first girl, instead of causing her pain. All I can do is move forward and create as much love and happiness in this world as I can in my lifetime.

Women can get over it because of all the emotional support they have. If men get emotional they are judged as being whiney and weak so they internalise it which is why men don't ever really get the chance to get over it. They keep it in and don't say anything to anyone. The reason why women are more likely to initiate a breakup is they have much more to gain. Divorce and custody battles almost always favor women. There is a reason for this it's not strictly biological response.

I can't work, I can't sleep, or I can't eat, my family is just looking at me wondering what's wrong but I've never showed them these emotions before, I've only been truly vulnerable with her, I love her.. I gave her my heart and it hurts everytime I think about her and look at her pictures... nights are long and lonely and sad, full of love songs and sorrow

Lol no! It’s just that in today’s world it’s difficult for men to find a new woman. They dread having to flirt and impress other women. They hate moving out of their comfort zone and finding someone new. If a guy found a hotter girl, he wouldn’t even for a second think about his ex. It’s just that men have lesser opportunities than women. And you usually feel heartbreak until you find another person.

Zeeke When going over selecting a mate for the general purpose of reproductive strategy, I liken it to used car shopping with a trade in car. Both individuals at the precipice of a relationship start evaluating the market position of the other to determine if they are affordable and desirable. This often involves a little prior introspection to ascertain your own value to shop out in the market; and usually inspires to detailing work to make sure you get top dollar. This works well when selling anything in general. If two people decide with or without help that they can make fair market value for each other, a relationship happens. Value changes after the transaction and some may feel a need to step up and away from a current deal at some point, should one side's value go up or the other's value goes down. This is mostly a one sided decision to benefit one to leave the other formerly content with the deal at the curbside.
I took liberty to expand upon this.

Been with someone for 4 years who is a narcissist and has abused me mentally, emotionally and physically. We have broken up 7 times in 4 years and k have made 13 moves (500miles each) because he said he changed and wants to marry me and be happy.... I've been back now for 2 weeks and he has already told me to move back home with my parents.... I'm 26.... He's 38... Despite everything I actually loved him and still do... But this will be my 14th trip of 500miles back. And me packing up my life 14 times and trying to establish roots again. When I entered the relationship I was such a bubbly silly happy girl... Now I have no clue who I am and my parents can't stand the sight of me and claim "youre not our daughter anymore... she's been gone for 4 years." I hate my ex so bad for doing what he has done to me and how I allowed it so many times... He says he'll never get over me.... I honestly hope he struggles for the rest of his life. Because God sure knows I have and I have almost lost myself completely.... (I've tried to commit suicide 3 times because of the abuse and feeling trapped and unwanted/unrecoverable.) I hope I have your strength and can move on and be protected to never meet a man like this again...

    • @zilun
      @zilun 6 лет назад +45

It’s even simpler than that. Women don’t love men. They love what men can do for them. So, when they lost a man, there’s still plenty of men who will immediately fill that void. Men don’t need to love women but need a purpose, only that biology of men make relationship, which is potential future family, to be the center of their lives, which can be brutal if that purpose is taken away. Men with purpose in life other than relationship, are immune to emotional toll of breakups.

Everyone is talking about how they miss their exes yet here I am, happier than I ever was with my ex. We were together for almost a year and a half until she cheated on me and left me for the dude she cheated with. I was devastated for about a month or two, after which I've been happier than ever. Then half a year later she came running back to me, apologizing and begging me to take her back. I just laughed at it and kindly told her no.
I guess it's just my mentality, that if people leave your life, it's for a good reason. They served their purpose, and something way better is underway. And that way of thinking worked perfectly because now, almost 2 years after the breakup, I met an amazing girl that I've always dreamed of.
So the moral of this story is your future is determined by the way you react to present.

As a man, nothing feels the same after. You just try and not talk about it to anyone, you wallow in isolation and every little thing seems to annoy and irritate you. The company you usually keep NEVER helps, you can’t even look at her pictures or social media accounts, trying desperately to forget about her and the pain you feel and the only thing that PARTIALLY heals the emotional scarring is time. That’s it. A new relationship definitely helps but you’re always feeling afraid of a break up during such times, leaving you potentially in an even WORSE state than before! From what I’ve seen, it can take women a mere few months to get over a break up and find someone else. For a guy? It can literally take YEARS to recover.

scowl face Hang in there buddy. Been through the same thing and the initial 2 year spell is ALWAYS the worst. Once you get over that, things only start looking up from there. The one thing that irritates women after breakup/divorce is seeing their ex moving on with someone else and seem even HAPPIER than when they were when they were married to them. Chin up buddy, good and even better times are ahead of you!

Emperor and Scowl Face - I wish you both to meet a loyal person in the future. As I wish it to myself. They must exist out there. Our head knows it but our heart can't have faith (for now). And how can we ever assess loyalty in someone at the start? Impossible. We've had signs she was a good person, but it's terrible when finally she turns out to be a child who wants a new toy. I have to admit I am now scared about women's dictator behaviour.

When he broke up with me because of something he thought I did, he told me he didn't love me anymore and that he doesn't care even if I hurt. Hopefully this science applies to him too. I know he's very smart and will probably not let the breakup get to him but he's human, too. He's just really mad at me right now. He shouldn't even be. "post-breakup, most people engage in self destructive behavior"
I guess I'm not like most people then because you know what happened when my first girlfriend broke up with me earlier this year?
I got my first job a month later
    I graduated high school
at the time of me writing this comment, I am a college freshman
I'm currently learning how to play the guitar
I grew a beard, started trying a new look
and I got a new girlfriend in the previous month, who I feel much more comfortable around having known what kind of girl I wanted this time around
I'm doing well for myself and proving a point that relationships are not the most important thing in your life and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is the type of person who you don't want to even start dating to begin with.
anyone who is going through a break up right now and is reading this, I just want you to remember that you have more value than your current situation may lead you to believe.

I clicked at this video because that title made me angry.
      I'm just like you.
I got the best grade possible for my Bachelor thesis, put on 15 pounds of muscle, continued with my engineering studies at the university to get my master degree, changed my look and got my first job as well and I found so many new friends. That doesn't mean I was immediately over her at that point. It still took me some months to get over it, but that's completely normal. Sure I cried about it. I even cried in front of my friends, but that doesn't mean you have to be self destructive. Not EVER getting over it, that's not normal and it's also not healthy.
For all those people going through a breakup: As long as you have feelings about your ex (angriness counts as well), check her social media or think about her, you're not over the breakup. You have to realize that you're not depending on the love of a partner to be happy. Many people forget that. You have to overcome certain things to get over a breakup and some people just aren't strong enough, that's my opinion. If you keep checking her facebook or instagram every once in a while, you're not gonna get over it, it's not gonna work.

What I hate about breakups: Guys are immediatly seen as the bad guy if they end it.
Wtf is that for? Why does guys get taken so poorly, just because they ended the relationship? "Oh that guy is a fucking douch bag. He never deserved you." They say to the girl. Why? Because the guy probably was cheated on, or what if he wasn't in love anymore, or what if he didn't feel comfortable in the relationship.
If the girl breaks up, it still always seem like the guy is the bad guy in the picture. Its despicable.

***** Sounds to me like you're in the "what the hell do I do now?" stage, projecting your frustration with women onto me by claiming that I am belittling men.
In case you need clarification, women are just as dysfunctional in the emotion department, just in different ways. We women think wayyyyy too much---so much that we become indecisive messes and our brains are unable to pull out anything coherent.
Men, on the other hand, think simple thoughts. It sounds bad, but it's true. They are very straightforward. Communication problems between men and women are quite simple most of the time---men pick up on verbal cues, but women often don't use verbal cues (much to the frustration of their partner), and instead use visual/physical cues.
Men need things to be spelled out and explained. They need to try to understand cues other than just the verbal, try to put themselves in their partners' shoes (i.e. empathize), be willing to show emotion and vulnerability, and listen (sometimes for a long time) without trying to give advice (unless invited---sometimes women just want a listening ear). Women need to calm the hell down, figure out what they want and what is important, think about the rationality of their decisions before acting on them, be more patient with men, and listen to their concerns---without butting in and criticizing.
      Now. You were saying?

Kaepora Gaebora.... it really depends on the person. I am a woman and my ex randomly called me without saying anything last night out of nowhere (a call where you get when you can only hear silence and you say hello a few times and they hang up) and...I haven't talked to him in over two years, and I was literally still crying over him the night before I received this random call. I am still not over him. We haven't spoken so long that it would feel awkward to just call him back, and I don't know if I should. It was a long relationship and I really loved him, so ........depends. Best wishes.

    • @thisisntallowed9560
      @thisisntallowed9560 6 лет назад +1

Puppet Master The fact that he called you is weird. I'd say, there must be a reason why you guys broke up, but if you think that reason is small and you can both get over it then try to call him back maybe? I'm not an expert but I know if you don't do anything you'll never know. I'm just stating the obvious but sometimes it's hard so see the obvious when you're in the situation.
Also what I meant by my last comment is that 3 months is WAY TOO SHORT
Also recovering doesn't mean not love anymore.

This is only true if a guy thinks she was his "one", if he does he'll never get over her. If or when he doesn't think so he'll get over her.
It's all about how the individual thinks about the relationship after it ends that helps them get over it.
If you focus on how they weren't good for you the faster you get over it. No one ever does that, everyone is too busy thinking about what they've lost and not what they've gained.

I can understand why some men experience emotional pain only way after, where as women suffer a lot only right after the breakup.
Men deal initially well with the breakup and ignore their now-ex's feelings. But after awhile they "wake up" and regret the breakup but only way way after, meanwhile the woman had enough time for her to recover and convince herself he just don't love her and was such a douchebag to her or even find an amazing man. It's probably why some suffer for much longer after because they realize they should have shown more consideration towards her and blame themselves because they were not brave enough to just say "I love you I am truly sorry" when the woman needed them to say it(remember women are devastated at the beginning so are more willing to accept apologies at the beginning). But now it's too late and the woman actually moved on and forgot about him, while the man is left with a feeling of insatisfaction and regret.
It is just my opinion based on experience.

Yeah right, men are neglectful and douchebags, whereas women are always honest and never blind-side their partners as it seems. Laughable! Men suffer more and never get over a break-up because the blind-siding women do is of epic proportions. Men believe that are in a true and open relationship and then the news hit them like a bag full of bricks! Not all cases are the same of course, but women tend to be more manipulative and dishonest. It's a fact...

He bailed out when things got tough. And that's when I know it's gonna eat him up alive. I tried it all. Begged him. Wrote him messages that I would do my part. But he didn't even take one accountability. Men and their escapist mentality cause so much of trauma, both for themselves, and their SOs. Just get therapy and work it out guys. In this world if you have come across someone who likes you for who you're. You're lucky. Work for it. It's all worth it. I am moving on from him, and his inability to love us. Bye, boo. Take care.

The person who loved the other one as their first choice and sacrificed the most of themselves will be the one who takes the break-up the hardest. Sometimes that is the man. Sometimes that is the woman.
My mother never recovered from being divorced and spiraled down into mental illness. My father was her first ever love. She was very young, fell in love with him at 16 and smitten and he was EVERYTHING to her. Took her out of her mother's house. Showed her the world and her life revolved around him. After the divorce, he left her with nothing, re-married and she was permanently broken.
I had a landlady who was the perfect doting Catholic wife. Her husband was a philandering asshole. He was sleeping with girls in her daughter's class. She would be at work and women bearing his baby would come to her demanding money. Totally broke her up. Worse yet, the church made her feel guilty over divorcing him. She is like a nun now. It's almost like she blames herself for it still and is trying to compensate by devoting all her time to the church. Worse yet, now that her ex-husband is old and no other woman wants him, he has moved back in with her and expects her to care for him.
From what I have seen of women who totally make themselves vulnerable and fall head over heels and allow themselves to be at the full mercy of a man, it is a DANGEROUS risk. Not to mention the horror stories about HIV I have encountered of doting wives infected by philandering and down-low husbands.
I am not surprised the daughters of these women do not want to end up like their mothers and are making more calculated decisions when it comes to protecting themselves from men who are just like their fathers. They have zero tolerance for any signs of the same kind of behavior and are quick to walk away if they see any indications of it.

Jason M If they got kids, it usually happens so.If they don't, they just say goodbye and leave. Doesn't take a genius to understand that

I don't know how it works in the US but here in Holland the house is always split evenly. So let's suppose you live in a $150K house, if she stays in the house she still owes you 75K. And vice versa if the opposite is the case. So no smiles here... except if she was a housewife. Then its a free 75K...

G_Reg17 stereotypes exist because the media gets the worse of a group of people and disguise it as normal. Lmao
