Mine certainly isn't new old stock, but it still works flawlessly. I did get tired of holding mine down while I cranked it so I drilled out the two rivets that hold the base on, enlarged the holes slightly and screw mounted it to my workbench. Never needed it to be portable, lol.
Same companies... sorta. Boston Pencil Sharpener Company was founded back in 1899. They were acquired by Hunt Manufacturing Company in 1925. They were high quality tools for many years. X-ACTO bought Hunt's Boston sharpener line, and then Elmer's bought X-ACTO. It’s all made in China now and the original quality is gone. “Death of a brand.”
I don't think you can draw any conclusions from one test. Not that I'm saying your video is sketchy, or that it should be erased, just don't pencil me in for buying one these
