agreed - I did woodturning in shop class in 7th grade around 1974 and it scared the crap out of me... one wrong angle and bye bye finger. I doubt they still let 13 year olds do lathe in 7th grade shop class these days LOL!
If it hits a hard knot and your not holding the chisel right it will do just that. Facts in shop class when I was first using it I cut myself good just that way. THANKS For the reminder hahaha
If you're terrified thats good, it means you will follow the rules and do whats safe. It's when you work with heavy duty equipment and get complacent that you will have accidents. I've used a table saw tens of thousands of times and I still do not take my eyes off that blade or the pieces being cut until that thing stops spinning. I've got one good scar from it and sure enough it was when I got complacent with a sharp as hell scraping blade and it sliced the side of my hand, luckily that was the only reminder ive needed.
It’s almost hypnotic watching you turning. And almost as calming as watching the fish in my favourite Chinese restaurant. Thank you for posting this awesome video! It was really cool.
Lathes are so fun to work on. !!! For those who never had the opportunity, I feel bad for you, it is amazingly fun and relaxing and allows you to be creative,,,,just a great tool,,,, 😁😁😁✌✝💕

Most creative thing I've seen fone with a lathe in a while. Now its mostly just "how much shit can we glue together or whats the most impractical thing I could make and waste as much time on the lathe as possible"
Wow. I occasionally have shavings stick to the workpiece and whip my hand before I remove them, but I never thought about using them on purpose. This is beautiful and I have to try it. Does it have to be a centered round log or would this also work with split firewood?
Proof that you do not pay an artisan for the time it takes him to do it, you pay him for the years he put in to learn the skill.
25 cents unfortunately
The end result was so much prettier than I expected.

That's what she said.
Brilliant!
Those are some seriously sharp tools.
First thing I noticed too. Cut into the wood like butter. They must be some seriously well maintained and satisfying tools to use.
I have a lot of respect for those who do woodturning because I'm terrified that the chisel is going to grab and kick itself up.
It can if you’re not careful and I have 2 crooked fingers that still remind me how I messed around back in shop class 😂
