This was very informative! This explains what my landlord cannot find and refuses to pay for because he isn’t an expert like you and is trying to cut cost. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
I work for a company that helps refer insureds and contractors. I am still relatively new to this industry. Thank you so much for this content. I have learned a lot in just 11 minutes and look forward to learning more. I appreciate this content - it helps me be better in my position!! :)
I loved seeing the mismatched gloves with holes in one. That a real working guy! These videos are great! Thanks!
After watching videos like this... I feel like no roof is perfect and if it is, it certainly won't be for long.
Lmao. The end comment made me laugh. Thx for that. 99 out of a hundred commenters would never even get up the ladder. Keep it comin pal.
I did roofing for 44 yrs in san antonio tx. Bu I am retired now and that was all I did was repairs on nearly every kind of roof. And the area where the fascia dies out into the roof at the bottom of a Valley is a problem spot especially when the original roofers didn't install flashing properly, or none at all like at the end of that valley or chimney flashing unless they consider plastic cement flashing. I know I couldn't sleep at night if I ever did a job like that . but I can tell the way you talk that you know what you are doing and take pride in the work you do . do you work by yourself? I did 95 percent of the time. But seeing your video's makes me want to get back into it again, roofing that is. But at 65 yrs. Old I don't move around like I once did. Keep up the good work and be safe. That foam sure does help from sliding, and when I was roofing nearly all my pants were wore out in the seat on my left side. Lol
Join back as a laborer and nail the flatter roofs if you can. We have a guy your age who does it all the time
Great video. Down to earth easy to understand explanation. Exceptional information about what to look for to find your leak. I am impressed. If you were in my area I would call you today. Thanks for your honesty.
Thank you so much! Would love to see more of those how to find leaks videos.

I'm a woman, never go up to the roof or know anything about the roof but I'm watching and learning from you. Thankyou.
you're a master of your craft. love it.
That is one steep roof! I subscribe for your bravery. Stay safe up there .
Haha thanks! You should check out the video I did on a cougar paws 12/12 3 story

Being a homeowner myself, my heart breaks to see how an asset can turn in a serious liability and nightmare. Scary. But doesn't have to be.

For how long you been doing inspections?
Do you ever harness up before something like this?
Haters gna hate my guy, RUclips algorithm don’t know the difference 😜
Thank you for your video sir. My IKO shingles are 5 1/2 years old on my house. I’m located in the Dallas area and we get storms all the time here. So far I’ve been lucky. 4 houses in my neighborhood have already replaced there roof in the last two years due to wind damage. All of the houses in the neighborhood are around 5-6 years old. My neighbor down the street had a few shingles that blew off due to 50+mph wind gusts few weeks ago. These shingles are not withstanding the wind speed as there are design too. How can I approach IKO if this happens to my roof or I’m just wasting my time? I appreciate your feedback.
Pretty sure they have a Limited warranty.
You can probably have your shingles manually tarred. Where someone lifts each shingle and places 3 beads of tar, one on each corner and one in the middle.
May cost $300-$1000 depending on the house.
It will help against wind.
I use Everest
How did you know right away that they were tamko? I do repairs, too. Its always a fun game trying to figure out what brand to best match the roof
Over the years you get better at telling them apart. There are things you can use to identify different brands like dimensions and exposure, dragon tooth shape, Shadow lines in the color drop, where the seal strips are placed, maybe it's got an Owen Corning sure nail strip, iko has theirs on the backside, the way certain teed has three lines to indicate where the nail, malarky has two, how much of a common Bond lap there is, and most of the time you can also tell from the cellophane strips. Most manufacturers have a code on the back to know where they came from.
I do a new counter flashing with led
I never flash the top rows by the facia at the bottom of a valley....always sawzall the facia and bottom foot of the sheeting in the valley so those rows run all the way through to the wall, absolutely no question of a leak happening
Oh btw...not saying anything bad about your repair bro, I absolutely woulda flashed it the same way you described being that it’s just a repair 👍🏽
That is the right way of doing it. I don't know why framers put the fascia tight to the roof deck.
Oh absolutely...we finally got most of the framers we do roofs for to start leaving gaps in the facia in all those areas...they still don’t cut the decking back but a few leave the bottom un-nailed so it helps
Yes I agree if there's a gap and you can shove a whole shingle all the way up and over that's the best thing to do. I don't know why so many people nail the fascia board to the roof deck and roofers ram their edge metal way the hell too far into the roof deck.
You need to flash it properly. I agree your method will not leak but it will rott the sub facia over time.
I knew tamko was bad but not THAT bad 😂
Wow what can you say.. that chimney is a disaster, the bottom of that valley is no bueno and I’ve never heard of these tamco shingles but it’s pretty pitiful if they aren’t sealed down.. I know we had IKO shingles had that problem here a while ago, but supposedly they’ve solved that issue and we haven’t had any trouble with them as of late.
How long ago was the issue with iko?
@@GrandRoofingInc I believe it was 7-8 years ago
The tamko shingles I was talking about, they were so bad for so long tamko took the entire company to dinner and kept saying they put all kinds of money like 56 million dollars in the back end of their plant to fix the problems. We continued to get bad material. Anything that could have gone wrong making the shingles they did. They were the worst shingles I have ever used.
@@GrandRoofingInc have you ever used BP brand shingles? They're also pretty terrible. Almost every blow off or leak repair I've done (that was Architectural and Not 3-tab), has been BP.
Im a roofing contractor in iowa iv never heard of tamco shingles my preferred shingle is atlas whats your point of view on the brand?
tamko.
I've used Atlas a couple times before. I've got nothing bad to say about it. I've been using a lot of Malarkey this year though. Their entire line is an SBS polymer modified shingle.
Atlas is the way to go for sure
How much should I be paying for a leak in a very low roof that's flat on an addition that just had the roof put on 5 years ago ?
It's hard to tell without knowing some other things. There are many factors that can change the price. Due to supply and demand, If there are not many people willing to do a repair in your area the few that do typically charge more. Reputation and quality, what all is involved with the repair, material they're working with xcetera. What kind of repair are you talkin?
You should look at getting a pitch hopper. Couch cushion on steroids. I know it doable without but once you get one you will never go back.
Aren't they like $100+? Why not grab a few 2x4s and 1" piece of plywood and spray adhesive and make your own. Should have that leftover from scraps at a job, pretty much free to make and you customize it to fit the pitch of the roof perfectly
@@Josh-ww5kz 65$ and it's still worth it. Just has a more professional look that's why we use them.
We have done what you are talking about though.
what was the slope of this roof (about)?
10/12
wheres the box for the repair video. hook me up man.
Have you had people hating on you for using Cougar Paws and a cushion for your own safety and maneuverability?
Yes I've actually got a lot of hateful comments, people think I'm effing stupid and giving out bad advice.
@@GrandRoofingInc What can you do? Everyone's got an opinion, but not many form them through education.
What area in Indiana do you service?
Kokomo West to West Lafayette Southeast to Westfield Carmel and Noblesville.
@@GrandRoofingInc Oh you are a lot closer than I thought. We are around orange,Lawrence and Monroe
I did a job in Lawrence about a year-and-a-half ago. Don't plan on doing any more down there, they're pretty strict on making you wait until they get a deck inspection. I also don't like the dual registration in both Marion county and Lawrence for what Little I did down there. I take it you're a roofer down there?
@@GrandRoofingInc we pretty much do about everything, besides certain parts of electrical and hvac. A lot of roofing and siding though.
What's the name of the company?
Gee I have tamko on my roof got 50 yrs architecture shingles put on 40 yrs ago and still no leaks
They may have made them better back then. Over the last 15 years I feel like they have gone downhill. They're seal strips don't activate.
It only hurt for a couple years lol
Ya man muck is ugly doesn’t belong on a shingle roof we call it phillyflashing we do all chimneys like that flash and contour flash cut ringlet and seal it
I could not see any one saying anything bad about you
Stevie Wonder could have done a better job on that chimney.
Junk shingles
Still looks bad
Taco sucks yup
This guy is a rookie !! Caulk the tiny lil corner on that valley.. water runs down .. hello 👋 .. Put new 3 course on the old roof mastic . ..that’s the real leak bro !!!
It had nothing to do with the chimney, and tar is not a fix.
The leak is at the chimney and running down to valley .. I bet my check on it !!. And tar is not a fix but a will stop water for years and it’s cheap and fast since the roofer that installed roof probably didn’t get paid enough .
@@GrandRoofingInc we have let people go for thinking tar will fix it.
Tar is only temp.
The leak is on the north slope, watch the video back again the cracked tar is on the southern side. The chimney is also at the highest point, there's not enough rain runoff to do the damage that was caused inside.
I had a customer with a similar roof, flashing at fasia and a small piece under valley. problem solved
