    1:05:20 My theory as to why he got up and put his boots on before laying back down to die is similar to why Elder Rasband's father-in-law wanted his Temple Recommend renewed before dying, Porter knew Joseph was coming to get him, and he wanted to be ready.

    • @Sayheybrother8
      @Sayheybrother8 3 года назад

      Why would anyone be dependent on their temple recommend instead of expressing their faith in the Savior to get in heaven? I guess I’m a bit confused on the subject and feel it’s a bit pharisaical to be worried about an earthly set of rules. I’m sure elder Rasband’s father was a great man but a bit too concerned about the worldly view of his leaders.

      @@Sayheybrother8 I think you may have missed the point, but it's not worth an argument.
      I agree that we, sometimes, have a hard time distinguishing between the law and the doctrine. But let us not judge harshly those who think they have it figured out, when their opinions differ from ours. Who's to say we're right and they're wrong, when it could just as easily be the other way around. The finite mind if man will never fully understand the infinite and perfect mind of God.

      @Sayheybrother8 3 года назад

      @@floridareedsreviews I agree and testify the Saviors infinite atonement covers those who haven’t had a temple recommend interview in which a man demonstrates to another fallible man he has learned all the special handshakes to get in heaven. The Savior himself and the apostles who knew him taught a different gospel.

    That story of Porter and the man who lost the bet teaches us 2 valuable gospel principles: 1. Be prepared. 2. Hesitation can be fatal.
    Bad man: "I've got you now Rockwell."
    Porter: "You can't shoot a man without a cap on your gun."
    Bad man: "Huh?"
    BLAMMO!
    Thud.
    Porter: "Another bad man bites the dust."
    Amen.

Hollywood comes across this character and evidence shows Porter is in fact a “wild eye murderous fanatic” and that’s what they produced.
      On the other hand, this video and the church do have an agenda to protect the image of its history and puts out their own version of the Porter story.

    Lorin Walker Dibble (29 May 1844-26 June 1888) was the son of Philo Dibble and Hannah Ann Dubois. Philo was prominent in early church history and was one of the first people baptized in Kirtland. It was because of Philo and Hannah that Porter Rockwell spared Lorin’s life that day.
