Keeping even a small family together is hard even in the best of times. That they all stayed with Joseph is miraculous.

I worked at the BYUI Counseling Center with Bro Walker for many years. He is one of the most authentic and good people I have known. He is a walking encyclopedia of so many church history events and people. He brings the Smith family almost back to life for us to get to know.

My great, great-grandfather, Samuel Shepherd, became associated with the saints in Ohio. He had a son, Rollins Don Carlos, born in 1830 in Ohio. This family remained faithful to Joseph Smith and the restored gospel. The were with the saints as they came to Utah and eventually settled in Beaver, Utah.
My grandfather's name is Rollins Don Carlos II, and he also named my uncle Rollins Don Carlos III.
I wish I had more information from journals or letters about my family's association with all the early saints, but particularly Joseph's family since the name Don Carlos was carried on in my family for 3 generations.
I am part of the 5th generation of faithful children in my father's family. My children and grandchildren take this line to 7 generations of being blessed by the restored gospel, and the family of Joseph Smith.
Thank you for this video podcast!

Fabulous video. My wife and I recently had the privilege to serve at the NY sacred sites and we came to greatly love the Smith Family even more. Samuel Smith was an extremely hard working man. It was Samuel who worked in lieu of cash rent payments for Mr Durfee who bought the Smith Farm. He worked at Mr Durfee’s store as well as made improvements to the farm in as part of the ‘rent’.

Josephine Donna Smith, daughter of Don Carlos, was famous in San Francisco as the first woman Laureate of California. Among her friends were Mark Twain, Robert Lewis, Stevenson, and Joaquin Miller, common Jack, London, and others. Today there is a society in California called Ina Coolbrith, the name she took on to hide her identity from an abusive husband. She wrote many poems and there was a book published by Brigham Young University press in 1973 about her life. President Joseph F Smith visited her in San Francisco. when he was the prophet. Nobody knew that she had been related to the prophet Joseph Smith until that time.
There is a park named after her right in the heart of San Francisco. And so many other things that she accomplished.

I found that there was a relatively well know person by the name of Don Carlos Barrett who was born in 1788 in Norwich Vermont where Don Carlos Smith was also born. Possibly there was some connection or familiarity with the name that caused the family to use the name Don Carlos.

There are a few of us descendents in the gospel but bye and bye God is waking them up. We know Joseph saw the Father who introduced his son Jesus Christ and restored again on the earth Prophets and Apostles and Joseph translated The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is moving forward up every climb and will fill the earth with the light of Jesus Christ.

I have wondered whether the name Don Carlos reflects cultural influence flowing from Frederich Schiller's 1787 play about the controversy of the Austrian Habsburgs and the Spanish throne. An English translation appeared in London in 1798. Perhaps there were Schiller fans among the Smith or Mack extended families, or there was someone else in the cultural circle who were fans of the historical figure....

    • @deltanfilms7598
      @deltanfilms7598 13 дней назад +2

The RLDS church is the largest Church besides The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that traces its origins back to Joseph Smith. They changed their name to Community of Christ about 25 years ago and until recently they owned the Kirtland temple and Smith family properties in Nauvoo.

I LOVE the channel but PLeASe
move back from the screen a bit. You’d get a better following. The contents is awesome but it is frankly hard to watch.
When you’re too close to the screen and I cannot see your hands, it seems a bit too “in your face”.
Psychologically, it makes watchers feel uncomfortable when they cannot see your hands.
Back up about an arms length from the screen.
Please keep up the good work!❤
