I don't think some sort of legislation around digital gambling, for example a daily spending cap, is unreasonable.

    The problem with "not spanking children" is that other forms of discipline often require a lot more time and presence. In a lot of families this is a commodity that they don't have. Imagine waking up at 7am and needing to drop the kids off and be at work at 8am. If your child is acting up, you really don't have time to put them in time out until their tantrum is over. Your options are 0 discipline, or popping them a little and carrying on. Also, can we stop pretending that there is no difference between beating your children and a little pop on the hand/rear?

    • @shadowlight6084
      @shadowlight6084 2 года назад +1

      Heavily disagree with asmongold on this. I wouldn't have learnt my lessons from just being talked too...sometimes I'd be so hard headed all I would do is try to lie and hide doing something bad and I got my ass whipped for it...but the differences between that and actual child abuse is intent, where their hitting them, and how frequent. If you find it cathartic to beat your child often then your actually awful as this type of punishment should also hurt the parent as well. It should be last resort and it should be quick and to the point not extended and super painful
      I'm glad Asmongold never had to have that kind of punishment but I'm not asmongold and neither were my sisters and with how they act you'd all think they were never disciplined in their life. People are different and I say I can agree to disagree with asmongold on this issue as there is no use in arguing especially when he made it clear where his stance is but in my opinion such a stance leads to the problem we have of today where everyone is entitled and heaven forbid you disagree with them.

    • @duvalpenny100
      @duvalpenny100 2 года назад +1

      @@shadowlight6084 I agree. It's easy to see when physical discipline is over used and is excessive, but non-physical discipline can also be over used and excessive. Both will affect the child in negative ways.
      I was also spanked as a child, and never once was I afraid of my parents. I know I did something wrong and that was the punishment. It's the parent's job to make sure the child knows they're getting spanked for discipline and not simply being hit on as a result of frustration or aggression.
      And to your point, not all children are the same. I promise you not all children are easily manipulated. Asmongold thinks children are dumber than they actually are. Some children will throw tantrums just because they want your attention, and that gets their attention. "Oh, Don't give them attention until they stop", alright it's been 3 hours and they're still throwing a tantrum. Now they just think you don't care about them lol. Is that any better than just popping them?
      Being grounded while growing up was much more "traumatic" than getting spanked IMO. As a kid your friends are everything, playing outside was everything, It was the only thing that mattered. When you get grounded, your "whole world" is taken from you.
      Getting spanked (in moderation) definitely sucked but it's so brief that it wasn't traumatic, I'll take my licks because I screwed up. Then I'll go outside with my friends with my water logged eyes and shoot hoops lol.
      Anyways, I could go on forever. But this subject isn't as black and white as Asmongold thinks.

    If the right communicator explains it, the general public including older generations could easily and quickly understand this issue. Everyone's grandma understands how the slots work at the casino and probably plays them. Everyone has at least seen somebody play a video game, and the concept of having a character you control and making it stronger than other characters is easy to grasp. Mixing in the idea of money as a shortcut to gain that character's power is easy to explain, people might get lost around the idea of how the predatory practices work, but the basis of this issue can be widely understood.

As the younger crop of 40-50s replaces entrenched 70-80s and begins advocating on these issues, it will be way easier to find the right communicator. I don't care if a developer wants to put lootboxes in their game. My stance is that lootboxes should be classified as gambling, as they are gambling, and should be regulated as gambling.
    The funny part is that games like Pokemon Red with simulated gambling in them, that does not require real money, is classified as gambling. Yet games like FIFA or Diablo Immortal that feature real gambling with real money are not classified as gambling.

You couldn't buy the currency with real money, and the casino was entirely optional, but it did get the game an R rating for including gambling. You didn't bet real money like you do in FIFA or Diablo Immortal, yet it still got rated as gambling even though those two games use real money and are not considered gambling.

      Diablo immortal has no lootboxes. Crests are lootboxes as much as a weekly dungeon boss is a lootbox. If I buy a new account, I can do another weekly dungeon... If I boost a character, I can do another weekly dungeon... How is that different, besides the extra steps? Such bullshit arguments only hurt the cause. Diablo immortal has predatory, p2w cash shop and a poor f2p experience to boost sales. No need to lie or expand the definition.
      Lootboxes should be regulated/banned for kids and should have some form of warning about gambling in general. Calling them gambling would just make them illegal in half of the world, it is silly. There are gambling elements, but if lootboxes are gambling, Magic, Yu-gi-oh and other card games are even more gambling, since they can have a monetary reward instead of just non tradable ingame items.

    • @HarbingerOfRespite
      @HarbingerOfRespite 2 года назад

      @@NightZ2_ Gambling is gambling regardless of how big the buy in is or how big the payout is. Crests are lootboxes. You buy the crest, you use it, and you get a lootbox at the end of a five minute dungeon run. The argument that the dungeon run step means this is not a loot box and not gambling could easily be countered by saying that pulling the lever on the slot machine means the slot machine is no longer gambling because there is a step in between the buy in and the pay out.
      Yugioh cards, Pokemon cards, they are gambling. Kids are buying packs of cards with real money in hopes of getting high value cards. I grew up collecting pokemon cards, then yugioh cards, then magic cards. I think I have enough experience in the matter to say they are gambling. The key, and important, differences that makes cards a far more acceptable form of gambling are a) cards generally require a trip to a store or a long wait for deliver when purchased. You are not constantly being offered another pack while sitting on your couch playing video games or watching videos. b) Cards are generally purchased by adults for kids, or by kids in the presence of adults. This means that parents can easily regulate their children's purchases. In regards to video games, publishers and even the rating boards will very often take steps to hide the fact that the game has gambling features in it in order to trick parents into thinking the game is safe for kids. FIFA being a prime example with the E rating and "In game purchases" label purposefully hiding the fact that FIFA contains gambling.
      Loot boxes are gambling. You put money into a game of chance and hope to get something of value in return. The value of an object is subjective, even if the object is not worth any monetary value it can have sentimental value. It's been proven that people will spend exhorbitant amounts of money for object that have no monetary value because they want to look good or feel good.
      For a generalized example, lets say you play a game where you buy in at one dollar and have pick a card where each card is associated with a specific prize. One prize is a used tissue and 51 of the 52 cards will give you this prize. The other one card wins a picture of you with a deceased family member that you cared a great deal about. You can buy in as many times as you want but there will always be 52 cards to pick from. The used tissue is worthless to everyone including yourself, but the picture is worthless to everyone except you. Would you consider that gambling even though none of the prizes can be monetized?

    There's a certain age where a smack on the butt once or twice is almost necessary as verbal commands do NOT always work, even after weeks/months of repetition trying to get the child to listen and understand the dangers of their actions. My child wouldn't stop running out to the road every chance he could get away. Months of constant talking/timeouts and other methods of non-physical discipline to no avail. One time he took off towards the road as a car was coming (he's two), and I barely caught him in time. I smacked his butt, and sternly told him never again! He has listened to me since then for now when I tell him to stop running, in all circumstances, he stops. The stress of him getting hit by a car is gone, and I can rest assured knowing that he knows the road is dangerous now. So yes hitting your kids is terrible, and not okay. A smack on the ass cheek to snap reality into their consciousness when they won't stop doing something dangerous to their selves or others. In my humbled opinion being a father of two wild (though great) ADHD boys ages 6 - the oldest on medication already even though I wish he wasn't, and the youngest at 2 years old: Butt smacks are a form of discipline to teach these humans in training that things can hurt you, or others severely, and this butt smack is the last warning strike before potential disaster if they don't start to follow the guidance of their elders/parents. The only other thing he has had his bottom smacked for was breaking windows. After throwing toys through 3 windows over 6 months of time of trying to get him to stop banging on/throwing stuff at the windows, he needed a physical disciplinary act to finally stop doing this haha, I cannot keep buying new windows. More importantly he was either going to get severely cut (older windows not safety glass, breaks in large jagged edges), or his older bother would have if I didn't put a stop to his windows breaking habit. Ages 2 1/2 into 3 1/2, controlled "stinger" butt smacks is something I believe certain humans kind of need to realize that we cannot just do whatever the hell we want haha that life can bite back. In this age zone the can now walk/run/climb while always moving fast, and they have no mental guidance on what they're doing. they also will do things over and over again to get attention. Some of these things they try doing are good, and some bad. Some things can be straight up a living hell for the parent worrying about the safety of their kids lmao. It's parents that actually hit the kids with force following through the butt smack, and the parents that want to smack butt after every wrong doing, this is the problem with hitting kids. This overreaction of parents is why in general most parents cannot control their smacks, or their anger appropriately and end up hurting the child physically this in turn causing emotional harm making it bad all together over not. It's a double edged sword that varies per child and the 6 year old vs my youngest, they both have only had butt smacks from doing things repletely that may hurt/kill themselves or someone else. The 6 year old had a problem with climbing to get into cleaner/laundry detergent type of stuff. After getting stuff in his eyes twice, with hospital visit after one of those times... I smacked his butt before a 3rd time of him potentially going blind became a reality. He instantly stopped messing with the cleaners after a butt smack. In my self-observation I can say well maybe I didn't need to smack their behinds at all, but I also can equally say if I didn't would he have done it again causing permeant vision lost? Or for the younger one breaking windows... Would he have gotten a serious laceration from the 4th window broken if I didn't put a stop to it after the 3rd by smacking his butt? So I can agree with Asmondgold in general, but as a parent, until you are a parent, then you have LITERALLY NO SAY in physically disciplining YOUR OWN kids. Your (Asmondgold) opinion is based off emotions you have without having a little mini-me running around, and not of the emotional response and worries as a parent. Things you CANNOT and WILL NOT understand until you are. You may have not been all that bad of a child compared to some others at a younger toddler age. Your rebellion years is different lol. I'll finish with saying that smacking butts of kids older than 3 1/2 - 4 starts to become abuse in my opinion as well. At this age they can understand what you are trying to tell them, and it up to the parent to learn how to word things right for the kids to learn from and follow. Any parent can probably agree with everything I have wrote here, even parents that haven't smacked their own child's behind.

It's unnecessarily freedom limiting. There's already a safety mechanism in place for grown adults: if you don't agree with the way it's marketed and delivered then simply don't buy it or participate. I do not give a DIME to any game that employs lootboxes. And if some people out there don't care and want to spend tons of money on loot boxes, then that's their choice. What right do I (or you) have to tell them they're not allowed to spend their money how they want? We're talking about adults, after all. One thing the video game companies really like to bring up is that loot boxes are like trading cards. Coming from somebody who plays five different trading card games I can tell you they are literally nothing like it. And every single trading card game you're guaranteed certain types of cards in every single box. For example, in yu-gi-oh, every core set has two secret rares and three to five ultra rares per box. Cardfight vanguard has guaranteed five triple rares and one SP per box. They define exactly what's in the box, what you're going to get if you buy it, etc. Loot boxes say you have a percentage of a chance to get something, and there is no guarantee in any way. On top of that, you can always immediately go and resell those cards that you pull from packs and make some of your money back. Sometimes make more money back, you can't do that with in-game items because almost every single video game has rules against real money trading. So please make sure to include that if you do end up talking

      You're on crack if you think Ted Cruz would do anything even remotely moral or for the interest of the gaming community unless it makes him a fuckton of money, he will do literally nothing. He doesn't even do shit when a class full of children are murdered at an elemental school. The fact that Asmongold thought that Ted Cruz would do something because of his "christian values and he doesn't want children gambling" or whatever the fuck.. is an absolute joke. And the ONLY REASON Ted Cruz would EVER come on Allcraft or whatever to talk to Asmongold is to get brownie points with the younger viewers to try to position himself as someone hip and cool and part of the Twitch community

    If they do make a law about it, it's clear from diablo immortal that simply banning loot boxes won't do since they managed to avoid the definition of a loot box by adding simple game play. It should be made clear that if you pay for it you must know what you're getting.
