Do you recommend Dwarf 3 for someone who knows nothing about telescopes and very little about photography? I can’t decide what to purchase for my very first telescope, but this one is probably going to be THE one. Thank you for the tutorial. ✌🏻
The Dwarf 3 is a lot of fun and I think its higher resolution (4K vs 1080p of others) is worth it. They also sell a tripod as well as an extra or you can pretty much get any tripod for DSLR with such a small scope.
It appears they have the Messier, NGC, and part of the IC catalogue. I don’t know the exact count but the NGC catalogue has a lot of objects (honestly I stopped scrolling to find out when it ended). There are C (Caldwell) entries in there as well but there isn’t a specific Caldwell list yet. But they are constantly adding things to their Atlas (I did another 123MB download today to add to it) so they are constantly improving it compared to what it was in this video. The Dwarfs can image anything in the night sky, however recognize that a lot of IC, NGC objects are quite small for a wider field setup like the Dwarfs, to get really good images you’d need a dedicated system as I don’t know of any “smart” telescope system that goes past 500mm optics as they tracking and mount really would need to be dedicated German Equitorial at that point to track well.
2 things I can’t understand about the DWARF III : -why a non removable battery? Planned obsolescence? A strange choice in 2024. -the DWARF II was able to support a 512 Gb SD card. This one is limited to 128 Gb… why? Was about to buy it but now, I’m not sure.
I believe the thinking was "less ports, more outdoor resistance" as to the choices to internalize the battery and SD card. Given that the Dwarf 3 can run pluggged for a long time (indefinetaly?) and connect to WIFI the idea is it becomes an outdoor all around observatory you can set-up and leave for days/weeks of automated observations etc. With the Dwarf 3 the only port is the USB-C port and I'm hopeful that's well sealed.
They say it will retain at least 84 percent of the battery after 2 years. Wtf. How stable is that battery 🔋 iPhones retain longer or shorter time but can function at peak. This is a unit that stays on more power to do what it needs maybe it's not a big deal. I don't like internal batteries.
Wait a sec, can this make the Dwarf able to track a satellite? Im going to assume no, but it may in fact be possible, although certainly not easy. Just wondering... for science. Like if you can track something like that, you could po9ssibly track a closer comet. The speed of tracking is probably going to be hindered by the slower cpu speed of the Dwarf 2 vs Dwarf 3 but again, its likely possible. It would be fun to attempt to get ISS but with a cheaper budget telescope, my expectations are based and not very high on getting anything more than a smear or a dot on the screen lol. If anything, I would like Dwarf to be able to view planets clearly in the future. Im not convinced either Dwarf 2 or 3 will ever be able to see Saturn clearly. To wrap it up, Im not here to bust on the Dwarf series, because Dwarf Labs really makes a quality piece of kit with these things. Everything they were designed for, they do well. I have been very happy with my Dwarf 2 so far, and I look forward to what improvements the 3 will bring in the future. Lastly, if you are running out of battery with your Dwarf, I HIGHLY suggest hooking up to a decent portable power bank while out in the field so you can sustain longer runtimes.
Thanks for the indepth reply, a lot to unpack there but here are my thoughts. 1. Dwarf 3 in equitorial mode (which it will have) I think will be better equipped to track faster moving objects than the Dwarf II. Not sure as fast as ISS, Tiangong, and Hubble but we can hope. 2. To see planets with surface and cloud detail clearly requires a lot of apature (my 8" telescope is just good enough). However particularly saturn the rings are currently becoming "on edge" at our vantage point so I'd hold off until 2026 to attempt to image it if you want the rings, but then I think larger smart telescopes will be on the market. 3. Yes, in and ideal world I'd just connect it up to the mains or a large battery, but alas I did not. One of the reasons I'm looking forward to the Dwarf 3's larger internal battery, then with a pack and it I could go for signfiicantly longer period or even connect to the mains and just run all the time (well with the scheduling feature they annouced, when its dark). Again thank you for your thoughts, It will be fun to see how more capable the Dwarf 3 will be but these app updates breath life into the Dwarf II as well!
When it comes with a tiny tripod (or no tripod at all) its worth mentioning that trees will be more of a factor. Best to purchase a proper tripod with these telescopes if you have an unobstructed horizon so you get a bit more clearance.
Price (and discounts) fluxuate, I based the price on the time the video was made and currently that is the lowest price it has been on offer. Changing it in the video is not possible at this time but in newer videos I'll reflect the price at the time of recording.
Also, if you are a D2 owner, they will give you a $50 additional discount. I ordered the D3 right after they announced it and was able to preorder for $399. All I did was email them after I made my order and they refunded the $50. I had to send them the original invoice for the D2.

Also, what is a good quality tripod for the telescope?

@@EmberSkyMedia Thank you! 😃
@@Janet4444 happy to help!
I have one on order also. Hope it will be soon.
You are going to love it, its so capable!
Thanks, I can’t wait to get mine. ❤
Ditto!
and do you already have it? I just ordered one and have no idea how long it will take to arrive
@@cryptocrypto8736 Me either, I ordered mine a week or so ago.
So does the Atlas have all of the Messier, NGC and Caldwell objects in its inventory and is the Dwarf 3 capable of photographing all of them too?

So, is this a Dwarf 3 you are using in this video, or are you using a Dwarf 2 but with Sky Atlas (which will be available for D3).
Dwarf 2 with the updated SkyAtlas, I don't have a Dwarf 3 yet but it will use the same Atlas.

Trees are not a limitation of the scope, but of your location.

Please update the pricing. Current pricing is $469 until July 1 then I presume it jumps to the standard $499 cost.
