    I was going down the path of building a ZWO AM5N mount and guide scope plus an canon R5 and 500mm lens until I looked closely at the Dwarf 3. I've decided I'd rather spend my time post processing instead of considerable time capturing images. I've read the smart telescopes are for people not technical. That may be, but I am an engineer and my view is I have many interests. Astrophotography is one of my hobbies. Not my main interest. The Dwarf 3 will open my eyes to astrophotography enough for now. Hi Cuiv. I'm surprised that the See Star doesn't have this because I assume it uses similar software to the ASIair which does have a planning feature.
    I can see this would be a very popular upgrade. I'm not a smart scope guy, but the more I look at the Dwarf III the more I'm thinking maybe I should get one as a travel scope.

    • @polacofederos

    • @Tink-GB

      There is a balance to be had between producing SeeStar with it's functionality and the independant camera and ASIAIR products...They do not want to devalue the cost of those "premium manual " products...esle if it had everything, why would anyone buy a zwo camera?
      Dwarf Labs are in a different position, making these smart telescopes...so they will be trying to add as much useful functionality to undermine seestar.
      Smart Labs next upgrade with better sensor and larger focal length will be another chink against "traditionalism" of the manual setup...
      Dwarf Labs cannot be ignored any more, it will take so many sales away from Zwo.
      Everyone will be getting into Astrophotography by buying this...making the subject so accessible to even a 7 year old

    • @michaeldiaz4942
      @michaeldiaz4942 2 месяца назад +3

      My hunch is that this will probably be coming soon for the SeeStars. Planning is already in the ASIAir software, which is the base for the SeeStar software, and it's already implemented in third party control software (SeeStar_Alp). Just wish ZWO would take the lead in adding software features instead of waiting for it to show up on the Dawrf's first.

      I assume they will follow with this feature.
      On the other hand the SeeStar recently got the feature of mosaic imaging, which somehow is simular to an imaging plan.

    I've been waiting to get the Star Adventurer GTI, but having seen what this can do, I'm really thinking hard about just going with this and possibly selling my Star Adventurer 2i, or at least the extraneous gear for guiding, and i would probably relegate it to tracked sky images for landscape astrophotography.
    If ZWO implements an EQ mount and enables the ability to program multiple imaging sessions, then I could be swayed over to ZWO.

      @@dw.in.michigan unless you need the cash, I would hang on to the gear you already have for a while if you buy a smart scope or even the SA GTi, if only for use as back up in case anything should go wrong. Running two rigs simultaneously capturing different targets or the same target within a different fov is another possibility. To me which astro photography gear to own isn't an either/or issue. There are some great tools available including the Dwarfs and See Stars, each have their plus points and their down sides, the more varied gear you have the more versatility you have in capturing images of the night sky. That's my view anyway.

      I think the only filter for the Dwarf that is external is the solar filter, like the SeeStars. This is why I think this is such a missed opportunity for the Vespera, since having external only filter means you can't do a fully hands off plan with targets needing different filter.

      Dwarflab included internal filters in D3 for feature parity with Seestar s50 - previous model D2 could only use external filters. Note Seestar's also have a built-in dark filter but Dwarf's have to use the external solar filter so taking darks can't be scheduled.

    I love smart telescopes for sheer convenience with a young family and being a shift worker.
    Had a Vaonis Vespera which was good, but not perfect. The sheer cost of it plus then the ludicrously priced filters which are all "extras" was the nail in the coffin and I sold it before the vespera 2 became too popular and it lost too much value.
    Pre ordered the dwarf 3 back in October (UK) and still not had it yet 😢 only now shipping first orders I believe, so hopefully get mine before Christmas 🤞 Was seriously tempted to cancel and get the Seestar S50 with it being on sale for black friday but the Dwarf 3 just seems too decent at everything to warrant compromising for something else!
    Have a nexstar 4se scope as a planetary viewing upgrade from my first telescopes but used it literally once since beginning of November due to appalling UK weather recently! As a plus, I suppose it means that I am not missing out by not having it yet. Looking forward to entering the world of astro photography with my "cover all bases" equipment. Whats that saying? Just an fyi, the Dwarf 3 website states an almost 5 month wait for the Dwarf 3. This space is moving so fast ..how many new releases will come out in that time.
    A more powerful version of the s50? ..I don't know. But it seems crazy to wait that long.

    I will be purchasing my first telescope asap. Is this okay for a beginner? Can I use it also manually to just look around? I want to see those things in the sky everyone is trying to record in USA. 😅 I also want to see into deep space. Thank you for the review!

      Yes, it's ok for a beginner! You can also consider the S50 (I made a comparison video on the channel) which is even easier for a beginner!

    Very interested and looking forward to trying it on my Dwarf3. Have taken some sample data, and I seem to have something wrong, in that I only get 60 30sec raw frames per hour. Also only get 30 60sec raw frames... It's like there is a 100% overhead for each exposure. Do you get the expected number of raw frames? I don't see this with my Dwarf2, there is only a very short delay between exposures.

      the Seestar's have a built-in dark filter but the Dwarf's require you to manually attach the solar filter - hence can't be scheduled for temp. change by end of the night is the only downside.

    Is always there the limit to 999 images per target?

    • @spookysandwich1355
      @spookysandwich1355 2 месяца назад +1

      if my maths is right if you take 30 sec exposures for 8 hours you would of taken 960 subs OR 480 1min subs which is enough shots to stay within the 999 mark also you can choose the best time to start and finish before sunrise or blue sky starts to hit the sensor then do the same the next night then stack them all in DSS "deep sky stacker"

    Any user information on smart telescopes is appreciated. I'm still trying to decide between the Dwarf 3 vs Seestar S30 or even S50. I need something good for outreach but would also satisfy my pixel peeping tendencies with astrophotography, including solar.

    Hi Cuiv,, can you just confirm if your D3 also has slight backlash/play in the rotation of the base, quite small but enough to feel? Mine does but my D2 doesn't, I'd just like another opinion/experience if that's ok. I get 50% rejection of native stacking at 30 seconds with barely any wind, I think that's why. 45/60 is impossible due to this.

    • @Leo_triplet
      @Leo_triplet 2 месяца назад

      It may not be a hardware issue; their latest firmware update has enhanced tracking performance. I highly recommend giving it a try to determine if it resolves the issue.

    • @amriddle01
      @amriddle01 2 месяца назад

      @Leo_triplet Thanks, does yours have a noticeable backlash play in the base rotation? I can feel it moving freely side to side half a degree or so, very little effort (can blow it to cause it). D2 doesn't, it's solid.

    • @Leo_triplet
      @Leo_triplet 2 месяца назад

      @@amriddle01 This is normal and not a concern. The transmission inside the mount appears secure. Consider joining their recent beta test to check if the native stacking rejection rate remains high. If the issue persists, contact the DWARFLAB team for assistance.

    I was just wondering why does Cuiv do so many smart telescope videos. I thought nobody cares about these toys. Are these just being handed out to influencers? Then I looked at view counts. It turns out these are getting the most views. I guess I was wrong and I don’t understand the current market. I have no interest in these things.

      1st... These are not toys, but actual astrophotography and EAA tools. While they can't compete in the quality of imaging you can get from many dedicated AP rigs, they do produce amazing results considering the price points.
      2nd... These are gateway items to bring interest in astronomy and astrophotography to a larger audience who normally would not take up the hobby because of cost and difficulty. That's why you are seeing the higher view counts for the videos covering smart scopes.
      3rd... The SeeStars and the Dwarfs are incredibly portable and easy to setup. So it's a great tool in the toolbag that allows experienced astronomy buffs to easily travel with a setup to do imaging while on the go or for the older folks amongst us to get imaging more often without having to struggle with setting up larger and more complicated dedicated rigs.

      Welcome to the future. Astrophotography has suddenly become accessible to a lot more people in terms of cost and ability. You no longer need to spend 10k and understand a vast array of equipment to be able to photographs of deep space.
