The Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute is so grateful for you Euzhan!!!! Thank you for being an SCCI Advisor!!!! Thank you for gracing us on this planet!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I met her years ago at the Monte Carlo TV Festival. What a fantastic lady. I will always have in mind her movie " A dry white Season with Kieffer Sutherland, Susan Sarandon and Marlon Brando. She did it. Bravo Madame, you deserve this recognition ❤
Anyone who can honestly say that Euzhan Palcy deserves this award is kidding themselves. For her to be given the same award, on the same night, as Peter Weir - a director who has contributed numerous classic films, is laughable. To be one of the first in her field is the reward in itself. Time will present more opportunities for true talent, of all colors, to direct films that will stand the test of time. This disingenuous effort to elevate her work to classic status is laughable. The film going public is not buying this pandering. When you award a director like Euzhan Palcy, who directed a few average films, before legends like Brian DePalma, Ridley Scott, Mike Leigh, John Carpenter, (to name a few) - directors who have had a significant impact on the industry - whose films will stand the test of time - these honorary awards prove to be utterly meaningless.
Thank you for your opinion, I love all the directors "legends" that you quoted but Euzhan Palcy IS a legend. All the "legends" that you quoted are ALL white men directors who had no barriers due to their gender and their skin color to accomplish what they accomplished. If Euzhan Palcy would have had the same skills, passion, and vision that she always had but her skin color would have been white and she would have been a man, she could have done as much if it's not more movies than all the legends that you are quoting. Ms. Palcy was making her first movie in her twenties which was the first big movie of ALL CARRIBEANS, her second movie made her the FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO DIRECT A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE and she brought back Marlon Brando on screen who was already retired and made the movie for peanuts when he was charging millions for minutes! Her second movie made her gain the respect of Nelson Mandela who invited her after his liberation from Prison and the presidential election, and so on and so forth in terms of epic achievements. Do your research. Sean D, you are probably a white man, or at least you think like one with only white mind and it's all good, I myself have white blood but you gotta educate yourself beyond the privilege of whiteness that has been running over a decade through domination, hate, and bigotry of other cultures. Do your research about people before throwing your not-well-informed opinion, and understand that the world, especially the USA is changing big time towards more diversity, recognition, and reconciliation of all people to be stronger together. The real question is why you are so not well informed and why the media and the Hollywood world didn't talk about this legend before? Black is more respected now after generations of civil rights, struggle, and activism, black is bankable. The time of whitewashing is over and History with all its colorful talents is now being revealed to the world and will continue to be. Catch up brother ;)

Tell me you are a white man without saying you are a white man.
