The quality of football today is poor, a handful of decent strikers and defenders. Go back 10/15 years and all top teams had 2/3 top strikers and forwards each.
Couldn’t agree more, thinking of Van Basten, Bergkamp, Rumenigge, Platini, and fifty other guys of this ilk who produced something special. Now it’s all about systems etc. It’s a different game.
Southgate picking the same 11-12 players every single game despite them struggling to create a single chance for 70 minutes, then seeing players like Palmer come on, change the game and create match winning goals and then drop to the bench the next game! Ridiculous!! Why not give these super subs a chance to start a game? Then maybe we won’t have to go 1-0 down and panic trying to find an equaliser with the clock ticking down.
I agree mate. Good riddance. Did not have a scooby. Which midfielder did he play which could make that pass to split a defense (starter)? Playing both Bellingham and Foden was ridiculous, not to mention the decision to keep playing Kane unfit. Blows my f mind GS's decision - making. Seriously could understand a chimp at the zoo better than GS's mind.
The main issue in the tournament was relatively simple. Kane, Foden, Bellingham and Saka were not an attacking four that were ever going to do it. They just don't work together. They all want to play in the same space. Kane, even when fit, needs wide runners, and those attackers all need a forward like Watkins who stretches the play so they can break into space. It was never, ever going to flow and most people spotted it very early. Southgate persisted, and it was our downfall.
The fact you are even talking about “moments” that dug us out! This is England! Dug out against Slovenia etc tells you all you need to know about Southgates tactics! Man for man except Rodri we are far better than even Spain, so how do we lose to anyone?
6:50 Pennant makes a good point ; it was only when foreign coaches and players came to the UK that the PL took off , it wasn't English players that made that happen. The coaches angle in particular ; no English coach has won the PL , that says plenty. Eriksson and Capello had a go but Eriksson was not elite and Capello wasn't suited to the English culture. I say give a foreigner another go , at least we'd see a team thats easier on the eye.
Bellingham isn’t a wide left forward. Can’t blame him for performing poorly in a system that doesn’t suit him. He’s a number 8. Pre tournament he should’ve started alongside rice where he can pick up the ball deep and drive into defences. Now Mainoo has showed his capabilities maybe there isn’t a place for Jude in the starting 11.
Jamie "Brazil are terrible now" .........Didn't Brazil just beat England leading up to the Euro's??? Seem to remember Eigland tried to press Brazil and how easily a "terrible" Brazil team dealt with it. Some brilliant tactics by the management right there!
All the comments trying to be tacticos…England do have the best players, only 1 or 2 countries have ARGUABLY better players. It’s completely down to the coaching. If you disagree please tell me the many countries with better players
No mate, pressing is one of the most basic attributes of any footballer, pressing just means pushing up on our opponents and is NOT a skill that needs to be learnt. Either Southgate’s tactics dictated how we played OR the players were just too cagey. To say this needs to be “learnt” at youth level is ridiculous, it’s basic. Even an average Sunday League pub footballer knows how to press (push up). If your post was serious and you really think this needs to be taught then we are either in more trouble than we thought OR you know zero about the game of football🤣🤣
@void0350 Trent has highest all time assists for a defender in PL history - you can’t achieve that without being a great passer. Stop spouting nonsense
You could side with Southgate but think his answer to win was bring on Gallagher. Honestly you must sit on the sideline and look into space think what would great manager do. Klopp, Clough or anyone. Day of Destiny Gareth. "I summon you Gallagher" Ah man. There is Trent and Gordon - rightwing to left
Having leaders is not good enough. What did Gerrad Win with England?.The Truth is this England doesn't have the Players,Team ,Management, Mentality and Playing Style to Win a Major Trophy
What a dumb argument. 'we aren't that nation who wins tournaments' You'd have been making that argument if you were Spanish back in 2008 as they'd never won anything. They've since won 4.
I disagree and I will point you to the below list of objective facts rather than just simply providing my opinion. Kane-Top goal scorer in Bundesliga Foden - Voted Prem best player Bellingham - voted la liga best player In terms of goals scored in the most recent season across all comps, the following players all scored 20 goals or more: Kane, Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Watkins, Bowen, Saka Now please show me another national team that can boast that? How many did Yamal and Williams score last season? You can not deny that the above mentioned players all had exceptional club seasons coming into this tournament, otherwise you are just ignoring facts. Before you mention the EPL is overhyped, please note it is the no.1 ranked league in Europe by Uefa, it is not a farmer league. Plus you had the likes of Kane and Bellingham doing very well in overseas leagues. Clearly the English squad, certainly from attacking perspective has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to form players yet they didn't score more than 2 goals in any game. I think its Gareth and the coaching staff who have to take responsibility here for not extracting the best out of the squads strengths here.
@@matthewtovey9771Good points…They don’t unfortunately play as a team…And We are weak mentally…Historically…It can change….Garath did ok….,The culture has improved…Next manager needs to build a team…not just play star players..👍
We don't have the midfielders like most of the top nations! Almost all of the best midfielders in the Premier League are foreign. We need to start to appreciate deep-lying midfielders and cultivate that position, instead of being obsessed with pushing every technical player into the forward line. Hopefully the next generation of English midfielders, like Wharton, Tyler Morton etc will be appreciated.
This argument that England is not a country that historically wins World cups and European cups is so stupid. England last won a WC in the 60s and Spain won the euros once in the 60s as well and before 2008 didn't win anything. In the last 17 years, Spain won three Euros and a World cup. The moral of the story is you can become the country that wins in such a small time as long as you have the right players and attitude. "We don't do that" is such a negative mindset.
Only one person to blame and that is Southgate not kane not the players Southgate with his sit back tactics what do you people expect kane to do when the whole team is sitting back miracles and spain used every player they had during the tournament expect the keeper Southgate used the same players and moans the players are tired
What was Spain better at? Playing out from the back. Playing with possession. Playing attacking football to outscore the opponent. That's what England need to practice going forward.
The problems we had throughout the tournament was because we were playing with 10 men in every game. Harry Kane did absolutely nothing. Ambled around from Spanish player to Spanish player with no intention of ever threatening them. Why do we hang on to these icons when they are past their best and we are afraid to drop them ie kane, although probably unfit, Ronaldo, Anderson at cricket ………
Stones, saka had good touenaments, from the bench palmer toney and hawkins did amazing. Fair play to gareth to make earliwr suba but... spain as did holland and denmark.. made subs at the right time to keep the ball alive. We looked leggy and needed fresh legs earlier to not slip back into a back 8 which was a consistant problem.
It’s hard for me to say this but it’s true. Arsenal haven’t won a champions league yet, we always struggle in the champions league and there’s reasons for this. I think it’s a similar problem with England, they just don’t have the pedigree or experience on winning something major like the other nations. The next England manager appointment is crucial to get us over the line in winning something major.
When you rank the squads at the Euro's, yeah ENG would be up there in the top drawer, with France, Spain, Germany, Portugal. Now rate the managers, Kneelgate wasn't just bottom drawer, but by far the worst! Hence what happened, happened!
Plain and simple. Tell me one player over the 8 years Gareth Southgate has been in charge, one player has stood out? Tell me one player, Southgate has got the best out of? Yet these players stand out in their own clubs?
As for right now, England should win tournaments. We have quality players and the strongest squad with at least 26 good, excellent/world-class players. We need the manager to unlock it all.
Well said Jermaine at the end there. Decide how we want to play and then find the right solutions for those positions. Gordon on the left wing > Jude on the left wing.
Not just Rodri, no Pedri or Gavi either in the final yet it made no difference to the team. Imagine if England had lost its best three midfielders in the final. It would have been an even bigger disaster.

Southgate in the 2nd half pushed SAKA further forward, the winning goal was down to Walker for taking a throw that was on the edge of Spain’s box and it ended back with Pickford, and preceded to give the ball away that led directly to the winning goal
From day one, I always said he was a f numpty. I've been proven f right.

Apparently Jermaine Pennant is the only guy in England connected to reality
Best football teams in the world domestically full of other countries and leauges talent not because of the English players. This is the problem with any English media they don't accept that other country's have equal or better talent due to their own bias but if you really deep it and the most successful teams last season and past seasons non of the teams have had an England star being the one who carries the team bar maybe Madrid this season but it wasn't just belilingham it was a whole team delivering
Cole carried Chelsea way more than Bellingham did! Y’all just love bring Bellinghams name up in every conversation… he’s not spectacular, he has great physique, a pompous attitude and scored goals. He’s a PRs dream.
@dagogogreene9155 OK, 1 player you have named who didn't even start. That was my point that no one is undroppable. And I used jude as an example because of the team he plays for real Madrid who are stacked with world beaters and even with out jude they still function they have other players who have been clutch this season such as vini and carvajal and most of them are not English but won't get credit they deserve due to the English media bias an example is carvajal vs walker one of the most decorated rb in the game won't get the praise in comparison to a speed merchants
@@asaifali99 Your point about Walker is very tenuous. He was named in the Uefa team of the tournament, like Caravajal has had a very successful club career and is someone who has been named by the likes of Vini Jr and Neymar as the best player they have faced in that position. None of this can be put down to english media bias now can it?

Jamie saying England have the best football teams. There is over 60 percent of the players are foreign.
When it really mattered Bellingham did nothing , quarters semis and final.

@@footballsoccerx2021 What did he do then numbnuts?
Wud u have gotten there If he doesn't score the overhead kick ?
Fun fact. All the best players in this country are always foreigners. We over hype our players and downplay other countries players.
Sven was a cheque book manager for Lazio who never won the Italian League, at that time it was a stupid appointment
Lewandoski didnt start for Poland! Why not drop Kane if he plays bad?!!
He was injured until the last Poland match. Then they played him as soon as he was fit.
Because he’s “England’s priceless Gem!”
Sitting back after equalising was criminal. Bottlers.
50 percent on Southgate and 50 percent on the players
Well said well bloody said for real
“England have got better players than all them nations” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
England were never gonna beat Spain. Can't beat any of the big teams!
You have the best league not players
Jamie "Brazil are terrible now" .........Didn't Brazil just beat England leading up to the Euro's??? Seem to remember Eigland tried to press Brazil and how easily a "terrible" Brazil team dealt with it. Some brilliant tactics by the management right there!
All the comments trying to be tacticos…England do have the best players, only 1 or 2 countries have ARGUABLY better players. It’s completely down to the coaching. If you disagree please tell me the many countries with better players
Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Cape Flats kids from Cape Town.
We can’t keep saying we’re better than this and we’re better than that. Performances don’t match.
“England are better than Brazil” from the ever insightful delusional Jamie yet again. Jermaine spot on, great analysis.
Our director of football needs get English players at youth level to learn how to press and keep ball under high pressure
I think they need to develop natural intelligence 😂
Learning to press?? Geez just work on your bloody fitness lol
Kane should be embarrassed receiving the golden boot award
Ok, then so should the other three he’s sharing it with then. I don’t understand your point🤷🏼♂️
Blame trent !! The best passer in a team who hates to have the ball.
Trent is an overrated passer. English have not one good passer, i honestly think Saka is Englands best passer and that says it all.
@void0350
Trent has highest all time assists for a defender in PL history - you can’t achieve that without being a great passer. Stop spouting nonsense
England don't have better players
You could side with Southgate but think his answer to win was bring on Gallagher.
Honestly you must sit on the sideline and look into space think what would great manager do. Klopp, Clough or anyone. Day of Destiny Gareth.
"I summon you Gallagher"
Ah man.
There is Trent and Gordon - rightwing to left
@@Realist560😂😂
Ah man. Southgate needs sacking for ages. As if any sane Premierleague fan want him at their club. You know that is an obvious thing.
The ones we have are coached by foreign managers and play in teams full of foreigners. Thats why the PL is as successful as it is.
Jamie thinking England have better players is the core of the problem. YOU DO NOT.
Having leaders is not good enough. What did Gerrad Win with England?.The Truth is this England doesn't have the Players,Team ,Management, Mentality and Playing Style to Win a Major Trophy
The idea that someone must be to blame for the defeat betrays a shocking sense of entititlement.
Talksport are to blame for constantly bullying up a bang average collection of English players.
Clearly when you don’t win anything, you can’t have the best team! We just aren’t as good as we thought
England going into a competition expecting to win it when they have not won a single trophy since God knows when is mad 😅
The person to blame is Sam Allardyce, if he behaved he would be the manager of this lot not Gareth Southgate. He would have made strong decisions.
Jesus wept🤣. Allerdyce would have been even worse. The comments here are hilarious🤣🤣🤣
Please phone Talksport with this point
I dont think Pennant and Ohara realise theyre trying to make the same point
The way he thinks England got the best players is hilarious
What a dumb argument. 'we aren't that nation who wins tournaments'
You'd have been making that argument if you were Spanish back in 2008 as they'd never won anything.
They've since won 4.
It is delusional to thinking that England has got the best of players
I disagree and I will point you to the below list of objective facts rather than just simply providing my opinion.
Kane-Top goal scorer in Bundesliga
Foden - Voted Prem best player
Bellingham - voted la liga best player
In terms of goals scored in the most recent season across all comps, the following players all scored 20 goals or more:
Kane, Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Watkins, Bowen, Saka
Now please show me another national team that can boast that?
England don’t have better players than said countries.
England doesn’t have football heritage, cope.
Spain picked players to suit a style of play and do a certain job... England picked players on reputation...
Only one person to blame and that is Southgate not kane not the players Southgate with his sit back tactics what do you people expect kane to do when the whole team is sitting back miracles and spain used every player they had during the tournament expect the keeper Southgate used the same players and moans the players are tired
Bellingham wasn't great the whole tournament not just the final

England’s better than Brazil, didn’t they play the other day🤯🤯🤯🤯
What was Spain better at? Playing out from the back. Playing with possession. Playing attacking football to outscore the opponent. That's what England need to practice going forward.
The problems we had throughout the tournament was because we were playing with 10 men in every game. Harry Kane did absolutely nothing. Ambled around from Spanish player to Spanish player with no intention of ever threatening them. Why do we hang on to these icons when they are past their best and we are afraid to drop them ie kane, although probably unfit, Ronaldo, Anderson at cricket ………
It’s the mentality we score and sit back instead of trying to win a game
Stones, saka had good touenaments, from the bench palmer toney and hawkins did amazing. Fair play to gareth to make earliwr suba but... spain as did holland and denmark.. made subs at the right time to keep the ball alive. We looked leggy and needed fresh legs earlier to not slip back into a back 8 which was a consistant problem.
I blame Spain for the defeat.
At least we won in 1966 ,although the ball was not over the goal line
for the third goal.
@iainrae6159
Just as well a 4th goal was smashed in then isn’t it?!
First time agreeing with Jermaine
What about Lee Carsley? Just won the Euro’s with the U21 team. At least worth looking at.
Palmer always played well
Is he playing well today?
It’s hard for me to say this but it’s true. Arsenal haven’t won a champions league yet, we always struggle in the champions league and there’s reasons for this.
I think it’s a similar problem with England, they just don’t have the pedigree or experience on winning something major like the other nations.
The next England manager appointment is crucial to get us over the line in winning something major.
German league has a long break mid season so no excuse lor legs being gone
When you rank the squads at the Euro's, yeah ENG would be up there in the top drawer, with France, Spain, Germany, Portugal.
Now rate the managers, Kneelgate wasn't just bottom drawer, but by far the worst!
Hence what happened, happened!
Plain and simple. Tell me one player over the 8 years Gareth Southgate has been in charge, one player has stood out? Tell me one player, Southgate has got the best out of? Yet these players stand out in their own clubs?
Pickford
As for right now, England should win tournaments. We have quality players and the strongest squad with at least 26 good, excellent/world-class players. We need the manager to unlock it all.
Well said Jermaine at the end there. Decide how we want to play and then find the right solutions for those positions.
Gordon on the left wing > Jude on the left wing.
Not just Rodri, no Pedri or Gavi either in the final yet it made no difference to the team. Imagine if England had lost its best three midfielders in the final. It would have been an even bigger disaster.
Jamie is right
You are not Scotland
We beat Spain 2-0
Stating the obvious but kane was hugely disappointing at the euros..but i blame Southgate for that. I still think he has a big part to play for England but you have to find a system where he can STAY UP the pitch
Jamie o hara totally agree with everything u said mate 👏👏👏
