Love your videos! Your garden size speaks to so many of us. To save time, I use an empty tray to press into a tray with soil, instead of my fingers. And an inexpensive tablecloth with a thin foam backing will help with the antique table and also muffle some of the harder working noises. Thanks for the great videos!

I, too, started way too many plants last year, but in some respects, it being my first year, didn't know any better. This video supports those of us who want small cut flower areas that we can grow smaller quantities.
I'm zone 7, so I will start seeds in late Feb and have incorporated your calendar idea by setting the weeks from my last frost date and working towards that date. Thanks for that!!! And thanks for all you've shared for the backyard gardener who wants cut flowers!!

Those new seed starting trays look very interesting. I agree they would give you more options that the big 72 cell trays. They also look to be much less flimsy. The only plants I could use 72 of would probably be marigolds as I like to plant them in mass. Good luck! Love your new studio space.

Adding the potting mix to your seed starting mix are you concerned with introducing fungus gnats to your plant room? You may consider adding boiling water to kill the fungus gnats eggs!

    • @shesamadgardener

+From seed to Bloom media yes I’ve done the boiling water a few times and still got fungus gnats. They don’t really bother me and I use hydrogen peroxide and sticky traps if they show up. But I know they annoy a lot of people!

Glad you're going to be a guinea pig for the Vego seed trays! I may try to start a few things in my garage (with grow lights and heat mats) this spring, so this was a timely video for me! I have one of those greenhouse shelf units that kept my coleus all snug and happy on 1, 9 and 15 degree nights. I'm going to try to get some of the cupcake type zinnias going early this year; in previous years, they just have single blooms, which I've read us due to our heat. Have you had success with these, mainly the zinderella type?

    • @shesamadgardener

    • @shesamadgardener

+Emmy Husfloen you can do wet OR dry stratification! I typically do wet for seeds like bells of Ireland and delphinium … I feel like they are tougher to get to germinate. All of the seeds in this video are already sprouted!
