Petunia Seed Starting Video - • Starting Petunias In N...
Since it is the beginning of the year and most of the gardeners are starting seeds, I wanted to review the basic budget friendly seed starting supplies that I use for my small home garden. Plus, I am potting up my petunia seedlings.

I have a pot that I’d planted Supertunias in last spring that I cut back after they died off at the end of the summer and they’re growing like mad now! I bought them at Homegrown and they were gorgeous up until late August. They were all dried up after I cut them back and I figured they were goners. Nope…they’re beautiful now even after our recent temps in the upper 20’s overnight. I haven’t covered them or done anything to them at all.
That is awesome! I’ve had a hard time getting mine to survive the brutal summer … maybe they are dormant and not dead and maybe I should leave them in the ground longer like you!
Thank you! I will definitely be doing the smaller trays next time! Trying a 72 cell with things germinating and growing at different rates has not been ideal
Sounds great!
I love my continuous sprayer for misting soil blocks to keep them moist during germinatation.
YES! Those are amazing! I received one as a gift!
Loving all your videos, so helpful!!
Glad you like them!
Awesome tips, my garden is definitely on a smaller scale so these are perfect for me. The petunias snagging the fungus gnats is hilarious! 😵😁
Hi there! Glad you liked it!
Thank you for showing that the clear cell sections fit well in the 1020 trays! I use 20-20-20 diluted down in the house for seedlings. I just can't stand fungus gnats and the organic fertilizers seem to draw them. Sterilizing my mix with boiling water to moisten and the fertilizer usually cures fungus gnat problems for me. The triple 20 I use ( southern AG on amazon) has micronutrients. Once they go outside, I do organic and fish fertilizer.
That’s great info, thank you!
I love petunias 🌺🌺🌺
Same ❤️
I came back and re-watched this informative video. I’m going to give it a try. Shopped your Amazon storefront. 🙂 Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
This was an excellent video. I also garden on a small scale so your tips are very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
I seen people cut up old mini-blinds to use for plant tags. Popsicle sticks work too.
That is a great and cost effective idea!
Thank you for being so thorough!
You are so welcome!
So much great information! Thank you so much. I am really trying to up my seed starting game this year. I love watching you and your beautiful flowers.
You are so welcome! I hope this helped!
Another great job! The fertilizing really helped.
Thanks Joyce!
Thank you Amanda. I use mostly all of the products you do.
Awesome!
Thank you very much for the video
You are welcome!
Thank you for the great content!
My pleasure!
Great points on seed starting mix. I would add that it is also important for soil sterility. Especially if you're doing it indoors and you want to dramatically reduce fungus gnats, etc.
My mix is 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, and 1 part sand. Extremely inexpensive and long lasting when bought in bulk.
Thanks for the recipe!
Great information thank you! 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are great! I didn't see your 4" pots on your storefront page.
Thanks for letting me know, I just added them!
@@shesamadgardener Thanks! I just made some purchases. You are so right about starting out smaller unless growing a lot of one plant.
This was a very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing. Hoping to get some kind of small set up that’s not ugly or takes over my house lol.
Agreed … it’s hard because they aren’t super attractive.
I am looking for those containers with the moisture domes because I can't keep track of what is planted in those larger trays! So much easier to put under my 2 and 4 foot lights. I can only purchase one group of trays so my question is which do you recommend the 4 plants per tray or the smaller trays? Thank you so much for the wonderful videos you provide us! I learn so much from you!
My go to since this video are my Amazon trays … its 12 cells per tray. They are listed in my Amazon storefront in the video description.
Hello. I add root builder to my seed starting mix and it makes a huge difference to the plants
That’s a great suggestion!
Great info! I got the same trays based on your suggestion. Love them!
Glad you like them!
Awesome video! One question. Right at the last you watered with the fertilizer, then the water. I believe you said one ince in each tray? Do you typically come back to find you have to pour off some water after an hour or so?
I just divided the fertilizer among the containers and then came back with water to dilute it more in the trays. I don’t usually pour through water off … I’m sure that’s not the best practice but it’s what I do and they seem fine.
Are the lights in your Amazon storefront the ones you have as well? I’ve only used the LED grow lights and have been intimidated by the shop lights … plus the LED are pricier and smaller! Thanks!!!
The ones in my storefront are not the ones that I showed in this video … they are ones that I am installing under my table for larger plants. But there is a link to the Walmart ones that I showed.
I have the same container but mine comes with lights that snap in top. From Temu very nice set!
I’ve found some great stuff through them!
I have a question regarding your heirloom mums. Do you get those from King's Mums?
Yes! And I also order from Bluestone Perennials and Clara Joyce Flowers
Where do you get the reservoir trays? I didn’t see on Amazon storefront. Thanks!
I’ll add them right now! Give me 5 minutes!
Where did you get the heat mats and what length is the shop lights
I got them on Amazon! There’s a link in my video description!
@@shesamadgardener thank you
Where did you get your heating mats ?
They are linked on my Amazon storefront .. the link is in the video description.
