I refrigerate or freeze bells of Ireland seeds for at least week or two. Then sprout in a damp paper towel in a zip pock bag. I put the bag on top of an Led shop light or on top of my bulb refrigerator where there's a warm spot. They sprout in 24-48 hours, usually, then I place in cell trays. I don't know if you've ever grown them, but they can be tricky to germinate.
Ok so I ordered frizzle Sizzle this past year for color in my yard...lost them all to freeze. Mine didn't look so great when they came from the grower ...maybe because they were young. I hope yours do really well. Be sure to show us later in the spring
Knock Out Gnats by Gardens Alive works really well for fungus gnats. Hydrogen peroxide is so much less expensive though...What dilution rate do you use?
Loved the video. One comment: I was always under the impression that when you sow in the moistish soil and then you mist it on top that you don't need to put the water at the bottom until there is little green sprouts then you start to use the water. Is this true. Anyways enjoy the rest of your day.
I got the same seed starter soil and the same viola seeds (same color as I loooove that blue/yellow lime green blend). I have a sprayer - hydrogen peroxide on hand (check), getting those sticky traps for that fungus gnat you mentioned and I think I’m good to go in ~February - mid to late for my zone. I’m excited to see the black pansies as well as I had my eye on those but I need to do a test run with these viola seeds first before I go nuts like I did with the Siberian blue dianthus (and some white too for contrast.)
+Debra Bray nah … my home is warm enough to germinate the seeds and the humidity domes make it warmer. If you are germinating in a garage or unheated area, then you will definitely need heat mats.
Great video!! And love your flower choices :) do you use the hydrogen peroxide mixture to water the bottom of the tray? Do the flowers actually get sprayed?
Loving all the new flowers you have started. Your new grow space is looking good.
+michelle pollino I’m excited to see how they all turn out!
You’re seedlings are all looking great. I’m excited to see those pansies bloom!
+Marion Nixon I’m happy with the seedlings progress!
Your background looks amazing 👍🏻
+Rosie Singleton thanks! Im loving the space!
Love, love, love. Tiny Tim alysum. They do not spread as much as other varieties. But they are covered in flowers. 😍
+Robin Nehls yay! I can’t wait!

+Anita Murphy I freeze and soak mine too! I love the shape of bells of Ireland seeds!
How are you liking your vego trays? When will you plant out the various seedlings you started in the vego trays?
+Jennifer Hooks I’m definitely liking them! I will start hardening off towards the end of February and plant them mid March.
Love your videos! Are there any seeds you have tried that you never have got success with or you think are not good from seed? Thanks
+Miss m Rice oh, yes … tons of seeds that I have failed at. I’m done trying to grow Lisianthus from seed … difficult and takes to long.
Where did you buy those Frizzle Swizzle Viola seeds? I never seen ones like those and they look so adorable!
+Kat Johnny’s Selected Seeds
I like that soil blocker. Looks like it'll last a long time!
+Ernie Hatmaker that sucker is tough 💪💪💪

Your seedlings look amazing
+Nikki Holton Thank you 💚💚💚
That is a great idea with the calendar ... Thanks for sharing ... !!!
+Shirlene Higbie no problem!

+K P yes, that process can work too! My house is very dry, so I always add extra water to speed up germination.
If you spray the seeds stuck on the leaves, they come off quite easily
+Janet Knight thank you! I’ll go try that out!
@@shesamadgardener Did it work
Did you fill the seed holes with soil?
+Randy L I usually use seed starting mix.

+None Stated I do a 1 to a ratio
+None Stated I’m pretty psyched about the black color … I’ll be sure to give updates!
No heat mats?

Violas are coming up all over my yard! I just dug up and transplanted about a dozen. I love free plants!!!

+Nikki Holton glad you found it!

+MelissaR I do both depending on how many fungus gnats I’m dealing with.
I learned the hard way with the soil blocking method and the differences in germination times...yikes. big waist of money
+Nikki Holton I learned that lesson a few years ago as well 😬
