If you cut hot chillis, it's a REALLY good idea to use food gloves. Even kitchen gloves like marigolds are better than using your bare hands. The capsaicin oil is very difficult to wash off, so even touching your eyes after multiple washes with soap can be very painful. I made this mistake with Scotch Bonnet peppers, and I'm not eager to do it again, lol.
Quick tip for making the fries/chips not so fragile: Boil them with a small amount of white vinegar in the water! There's a chemical reaction inside the potatoes that will allow them to be a bit more durable, they'll have an actual bend to them without breaking! As a Canadian who vacationed in Ireland and fell in love with Spice Bags while we were over there - I legit don't understand why they haven't become popular in North America. Especially with Canada's obsession with poutine, we should be all over these. Whenever we've hosted our St Patrick's Day parties, we make some for guests and convert an entire crowd.
As an African American, and therefore an aficionado of fried chicken, I’ve got to say the Irish might have one of the top 3 fried chicken dishes with this one right here. Simple. A bit of heat, just enough flavor, the aromatics, starch to cut through a little bit. You genius bunch.
I'm headed to Ireland with my band FinTan in April 2024 - I'm going to look for a spice bag. This will be our third time over there and the food is always knockout. I will keep an eye out for this super cool dish.

Your old teacher sounds like he was from Northern Ireland. Every sentence can sound like a threat :) In any case, it may not always be called a spice bag, but I can confirm you can get this in most carryouts up and down the country. You can also get chicken curry or spicy chicken half and half (half chips-aka French fries- and half rice-almost anywhere. Definitely in a Chinese food take-away. More likely in a polystyrene box. It's probably 1000 calories but who's counting, right? Subscribed now!

Kapsalon is so so underwhelming no matter where u get it, even the og jaffa in rotterdam is just shite in comparison to even any kebab tray in Dublin. Not even comparable to a spicebag
Soaking the potatoes in water to remove the starch is the same thing asians do to remove starch from rice. To ensure most of the starch is removed and you aren't transfering starchy water over I would recommend emptying the bowl of water and adding in new water until it becomes clear. Ensuring there's no transfer of the starch.
In England (/ UK) it'd be a salt and pepper Munchie Box, served in a pizza box with salt and pepper chicken, salt and pepper wings, salt and pepper ribs, salt and pepper chips... and extras like spring rolls or prawn toast. They're meant to be for sharing but that's a silly idea, they can get their own.
Two Things: First about 20 years ago when I was in the Navy stationed in San Diego, I was cooking at home and was cutting a jalapeño and the juice squirted in my eye, so I know how much that hurt. Second I'm going Ireland in about six weeks so I will definitely be on the lookout for a chip shop that sells those!
Look for a Chinese take away that's where you get them. Would also recommend what's called 4 in 1 from a Chinese for another unique but delicious dish.
If you're in Dublin or Galway ask someone how to get to a restaurant called "Xian". The Galway one usually has really good spice bags. But nearly every Chinese in the country does them.

in most chinese restaurants they use birds custard powder with the corn starch it sounds weird but it works and dont forget the MSG, the MSG is massive for a spice bag
was looking for the msg comment, thought it was coming after the sugar in the seasoning mix 😢
@@Tristyboo same, for me there's a few missed things from this the birds custard powder 100% makes a difference
I never heard of Irish Spice Bag! Once again Sam educates! looks great! Thanks Sam+Team
That would be spectacular! They definitely should bring this recipe to fast food restaurants.
Had a spice bag for the first time in Galway last summer, so good!!
Never thought of making my own spice bag before, you've inspired me.
This honestly doesnt look good
My favourite Chinese place for a spice bag closed down last year, and ever since I've been trying different places trying to find one as good. This video might be the end of my searching - seeing someone who has never bought one, absolutely nail it at home on the other side of the world is seriously impressive.
This video is absolute quality, he's absolutely nailed every terminology and the entire ingredients, incredible attempt and serious knowledge of the best culture on earth for grub hahaha 🇮🇪
Best culture on earth for food???? You've got to be joking. I've traveled to over fifty countries in my life, and Ireland by FAR has the worst food. BY FAR.
@@PapagenoMF Hey buddy, OP didn't say food, he said *grub*
@@TheLoneMagpie91 I've been to Ireland three times. Love it. Arran Islands one of my favorite places in the world. But come on. Driving through Ireland - you've got pub after pub with nothing but roasts, potatoes and bread. It's a culinary vacuum. Even the food you're best known for - the potato - is indigenous to the Americas!
I've never heard anyone ever ask for Irish food but I'm willing to be convinced, lmk whenever you're in michigan lol
@@PapagenoMF By farr the worst food? That's an incredibly stupid thing to say but then again, the OP saying Ireland is the best was also incredibly stupid. you deserve eachother.
Looks similar to “salt and pepper chicken” that Vietnamese places around here in Southeast Texas sell. They also do this with fried shrimp and pork chops.
It’s exactly what it is
its a Chinese dish
Yeah, I was gonna say I’ve had this before just with a different name I had a little Asian place in Houston and the one near my hometown in corpus
@@cheesybellend6842 It's not that would be a separate item on the menu in Ireland
He has glasses on but still put his fingers in his eyes.. amazing
Can't wait to see all them surprised looks at work when I get my bag out for lunch... 😁.
So are you saying dump a Spice Bag onto some Poutine?
America number 1!!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm from SK. Can I come over? I'm up for one of these right now lol
Every Chinese in Ireland does them, summer inn in Dublin does the best spice bags though
Xian off Grafton Street does a good one
The Irish guy who invented that recipe loved walking in circles ☘️
Cheers from San Diego California
😹🤣
Wow it’s amazing this hasn’t taken off outside of Ireland! Like pretty much every other Irish food. Trying to imagine something Irish that doesn’t have a potato in it besides whiskey...
This is something I would never have thought would be cooked on this channel. Coming from an Irishman 😂😂☘️
The art of progress is to preserve order amid change, and to preserve change amid order.
I don't understand why this has been kept from us. Thank you for your delicious concoction, Ireland! :)
I had an Irish teacher like that and it normally was a threat with our class
four in one lad
cant bate it with a big schtick
I'll take mine in a bowl. Thanks
I don't always use my Wok to make Irish Food but when I do I will make this.
sam greetings from 🇮🇪 the curry we use here is mc donnells curry sauce it’s incredible
Thanx I just ordered some from Amazon. Look forward to trying it.
Liberty, taking the word in its concrete sense, consists in the ability to choose.
Another great and funny AF video. Anyway possible you guys could post a behind the scenes, bloopers and re-take video. I think it would do great and be funny.
Hopefully the behind the scenes would include the hand washing he apparently misses.
You should do the Dutch 'Kapsalon' as well, Sam!
Kapsalon is so so underwhelming no matter where u get it, even the og jaffa in rotterdam is just shite in comparison to even any kebab tray in Dublin. Not even comparable to a spicebag
@@crxiqz I guess we don't agree. Didn't even compare it to a spicebag though 😂
Yes to that!
I appreciate that you guys keep it real and don't clip out the little mistakes, Jalapeno in the eye is never fun.
Your younger counterparts are getting better every day. Props to Max and Chance.
I was thinking the same thing!
As an irish woman, this episode was incredible haha
The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.
Wow, a Spice Bag! Fair play to you!! Also another variation is the Spice Box, same thing but in a pizza box. :)
Yesssss! Ours round here comes with S&P ribs and chicken balls as well. Filth. Beautiful, perfect, filth.
“Jalapeño finger! A new eye! Fuck!” It is for moments like these that I watch STCG.
Created by an Irish man in Dublin inspired by A Chinese Dish.. Its absolute fire and the most delicious fast food ive ever eaten
Greetings from Ireland Sam. That's an epic looking Spice Bag fair play.
Love Sam's cooking and his overall attitude!
Through perseverance many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain failure.
I know it would give me heartburn, but I would still eat every bit of it! 😂
😳🥹🥰. Looks absolutely delicious
We have munchies boxes in Ireland too. They are similar but vary from each restaurant
I must admit, the paddies do it better.

Thanks Harry Walker
Hope you enjoy our beautiful country ❤️
If you're in Dublin or Galway ask someone how to get to a restaurant called "Xian". The Galway one usually has really good spice bags. But nearly every Chinese in the country does them.
@@fionamb83 that on grafton street?, was up from the wesht recently and was recommended it
Hands down it would. I lived in Ireland and moved back and I die for it when we go out to grab food
Sam never misses. The vibes are immaculate!
Here in Scotland it’s just salt and pepper chips, but stunned he’s just cooked what my missus gets every time including the curry sauce😂😂😂
