Chinchilla is amazing in her own right! Love her music! Her nails are her armour, she only wears them when she performs and transforms from Daisy to Chinchilla as she suffers from really bad stage fright. The thing is: I've not really ran into a Ren song i didnt really like. Maybe some more than others but he never disappoints. Not since Freddie Mercury have I seen someone so willing and creativily crossed so many different genres. It's wonderful to watch him evolve.
The best musical “siblings”. Ren has called her his sister from another mister and a female version of himself due to their similar approach to music. For me I think it shows in the fact that they both have that something special that draws you in and demands attention. To see it fully for Chinchilla, check out her live version of Fingers. This song always reminds me that one of the (many) things that makes Ren so great is his ability to know exactly when to be complex, keep it simple, or even use silence to get his message across. He isn’t flexing his guitar skills in this, just playing exactly what is needed with that beautiful guitar tone. And my favourite line in this is so simple, totally devoid of all the clever metaphors that he is so good at using, but it hits soooo hard: “I’m scared of being okay cause all things change”. I think anyone who has been through any struggles can relate to that feeling of not trusting that anything good will last. You can’t just enjoy it because you’re busy worrying about how long it will last and the feeling that will come when it’s gone. And then good days just make the darkness feel so much worse because you remember the light that’s gone… Ren is so special. He keeps being so relatable that it reminds us that we’re not alone. And we will always make room for more RENegades down the Ren rabbit hole cause we all need his light in the darkness 🐰🕳️ If you want more emotional singing from Ren, please check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and beautiful. And very different from everything else in his catalogue.
Ren has such a perfectionist spirit and is always intentional. The loud chair noise has meaning because Cherophobia is literally the fear of being happy. It's why he made the chair the focus. Love your reactions. ❤
That seems like a stretch. I mean he has a budget here of close to zero and he needs to sit down for the choreography of this piece. It was likely the chair they had available, but he does use it quite effectively to introduce the reverb in the room. But if you've heard him say somewhere he chose it because of cherophobia I'd be most interested. He's a smart guy.

You come around a corner and see a man standing up out a chair and you think nothing..you come around the corner and see a man looking like that standing from a wheelchair and your brain will pause to try to figure out what is happening if for no other reason other than it's unexpected. I also have adhd/Autism and my fixation is why humans do what they do so I tend to look at the world through the lense of "Why?" so I get it might just be me.
This one is indeed an awesome display of how well they compliment each other. But.... my man..... you are going to see yet another level of how well they work together, when you see "How To be Me (live)" - which frankly - tops this one, by quite a wide margin.

Ren has been able to express through his songs what I have been unsuccessfully trying to communicate to others regarding my mental, emotional, and physical struggles. The studio version is also incredible. However, in my personal opinion, it does not come close to the live version. This performance is so much more raw, emotional, and visceral, and Chinchilla's performance here elevates the song to a whole new plain. I wish the live version would be available on Spotify. Someone (Obj Owl @JoesTheBestInTheWorl) shared his interpretation, I think fittingly so, “The sound of the folding chair opening up fills the empty space with echoes emanating from the walls and then diminishes. Ren uses this to compose the song, with Chalk Outlines representing the empty space that he feels within. Chinchilla, who also emerges from the walls and echos Ren throughout and suitably for an echo, has the last word, leaving a dark empty space. It's dark on the gallows.” Given Ren's medical history, I interpret this song to address mental illness diagnoses, and prescription psychotropics, which leave you emotionally dead (hence, the chalk outlines around your dead self). Even on a relatively good day when you might not want to take your pills, you take them "just in case," and you never truly enjoy "being ok because all things change," i.e., your well-being is usually short-lived and followed by another bout with depression. In her opening line, Chinchilla even mentions the antidepressant (SSRI) "Sertraline" and references serotonin. I can attest to the reality of this; for over 15 years, I was prescribed a cocktail of max doses of psychotropics, including Sertraline, until I decided to carefully wean myself off all medications in 2014. The side effects of the drugs were too many and too severe; they left me an emotional zombie, while the benefits were negligible. I lost all capacity to feel love, compassion, or empathy while feelings of anger, and rage remained and were potentiated and frequently dominated my psyche. I am still struggling daily, but I rather feel pain than nothing at all. I would recommend you also check out Ren's other collaboration with Chinchilla, the "How to Be Me" live version, as well as their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk in love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover). If you ever want to watch some of her live stuff (like a full festival as opposed to her live videos) she did a great set at Pinkpop 2024. I've been trying to get reactors to watch 'One Time' from that set because her vocals are off the charts.

Chalk Outlines is one of my favourites - the lyrics "It's such a perfect day -Take it just in case, take it just in case-I'm scared of being okay" is such a real thing. I've dealt with depression and anxiety for well over half my life and the days when I'm ok or _happy_ scare the crap out of me because I spend the day wondering when the other shoe is going to drop and it''s all going to come tumbling down. I'm good with hovering just below baseline because it's safe there... anyway enough of my wall of text - hope you're enjoying the rabbit hole :-)

I am not 100% certain on this, but I believe that he is miked and she is not. She is moving around the room to change the distance from herself to his mike to adjust the volume of her own vocals. I think they are real time sound mixing using space.

It's time to ask the question, what kind of music (apart from all music) do you actually like? Do you like rap? Ren's last album was almost all rap music and after this album, which came out in October 2023, he wants to record a melodic album next. And with other artists. What's so fascinating about Ren for me is that I haven't disliked a song yet. Plus, you never know what Ren will do with a song. One song for the new album will be "Back to 74 / Massage in a Bottle". But I recommend "Loosing it", where Ren raps over an old EDM hit and just flexes and has fun. "Illest of our time" is great with double meanings, rather three meanings or more. Or check out "Bittersweet Synphonie". The guitarist gave Ren his old guitar because he interpreted the song so beautifully. "90s" is a declaration of love to this decade, once with video, but the acoustic version by Ren in his younger years is also great. Or the "declaration of love" to the Beastyboys, with the song "What you want", for old school hip hop. A few songs are too close to me, like "Su1c1d3", but you can hardly go wrong with Ren. A hardcore rapper didn't like the fun songs from him so much, because Ren can be really prepubescent too ^^. Actually, do what you want, I'm curious what song you'll listen to next, but rap wasn't really around that often. It's really hard to recommend you a Ren song when not knowing your taste in music so well ^^. I'm definitely looking forward to the next reaction, I've done all your Ren reactions now :D
Ren has ADHD too. I think that's why so many of us with some neurodiversities resonate with his music. It's not just the lyrics, I think he makes music that feels good to wonky brains!

It's not that weird that you were distracted by her nails. I don't have ADHD, but the first time I watched How to Be Me, I was so worried she'd scratch his eyes that I couldn't focus on the song. But you get used to the nails after awhile because she's pretty effing amazing, especially with Ren

Yes, Live is always better when it comes to Ren and Chinchilla. How To Be Me Live is SO gut wrenchingly beautiful and heartbreaking. ( It is the second song in what ended up being a 4 song arch about his best friend Joe. - Freckled Angel, How To Be Me, Suic*de, and For Joe. Unlike The Tales they are separate and stand alone songs. Those nails are "glue-on", part of her stage persona, to make herself feel more powerful I guess, bc she's kinda short and very young. But her music is great and her voice is amazing. Ren is like a magnet for talented people :)

I am not 100% certain on this, but I believe that he is miked and she is not. She is moving around the room to change the distance from herself to his mike to adjust the volume of her own vocals. I think they are real time sound mixing using space.

It's time to ask the question, what kind of music (apart from all music) do you actually like?
Do you like rap? Ren's last album was almost all rap music and after this album, which came out in October 2023, he wants to record a melodic album next. And with other artists. What's so fascinating about Ren for me is that I haven't disliked a song yet. Plus, you never know what Ren will do with a song. One song for the new album will be "Back to 74 / Massage in a Bottle".
But I recommend "Loosing it", where Ren raps over an old EDM hit and just flexes and has fun. "Illest of our time" is great with double meanings, rather three meanings or more.
Or check out "Bittersweet Synphonie". The guitarist gave Ren his old guitar because he interpreted the song so beautifully. "90s" is a declaration of love to this decade, once with video, but the acoustic version by Ren in his younger years is also great. Or the "declaration of love" to the Beastyboys, with the song "What you want", for old school hip hop.
A few songs are too close to me, like "Su1c1d3", but you can hardly go wrong with Ren. A hardcore rapper didn't like the fun songs from him so much, because Ren can be really prepubescent too ^^. Actually, do what you want, I'm curious what song you'll listen to next, but rap wasn't really around that often. It's really hard to recommend you a Ren song when not knowing your taste in music so well ^^.

Ren has ADHD too. I think that's why so many of us with some neurodiversities resonate with his music. It's not just the lyrics, I think he makes music that feels good to wonky brains!

It's not that weird that you were distracted by her nails. I don't have ADHD, but the first time I watched How to Be Me, I was so worried she'd scratch his eyes that I couldn't focus on the song. But you get used to the nails after awhile because she's pretty effing amazing, especially with Ren
