I watched enough of this stuff for me to figure it out, and it was interesting. It is certainly an idle existence. I promise to wait longer on walks while my dog stands there sniffing air and looking into the distance for several continuous minutes.
@Legend of the Blue Macerator watch dogs and ferrets chasing and killing rats...you'll never see a dog more in its element and loving it.....unless it's having sex.....treats? Cmon now
1:02 robot feeds man 1:12 robot plays movie for man 1:53 robot takes him on walk 2:32 the robot talks to other robot but human is silent 3:52 robot goes to party leaves man 4:15 man goes into cage while robot party's 4:22 robot party's 4:58 men are in cages omg the humans are the pets
Carlos Idelone Technically, the flower part of the plant did die, just not the root system that will make another flower. Strands of hair aren't alive so that analogy doesn't work.
r a l i ' i x a v i e r o no, I write that with a table of rock, then someone write down that ext here on RUclips. Just kidding the difference is that my daily use of my cellphone is nothing compared with others. You have to be responsible with this object, because they have a great power to change your life.
This is a depressing and dystopian short film that subliminally shows us the society as a whole. The houses are all the same(conformity) as are the gardens. I think that the pets aren’t the robots, but rather the humans. The robot at the beginning is seen controlling the human’s actions, including making him walk the robot. The humans being in cells was how we found out that the robots were not the pets. The cells weren’t cells. They were kennels, like in a boarding pet daycare. Case and point, the humans are the pets.
angeldude101 If the point is it's a pretentious piece of crap masquerading as a cautionary tale about letting technology control your life, then no, I got that
Now you missed the point that @angeldude101 was replying to Maddieleigh 20XX. The Robot are not the messengers but the Owner. And that the Pets are Us. No talking no messenger not even able to sniff butts.
That's the first thought I had. Although, I kinda knew what was going on from the title and the opening. No big "Black Mirror" twist. But still a well-made, thought-provoking film.
Those two are not mutually exclusive. I had a Motorola MPx220 some years ago. An early Windows phone and all flippy. Also, Sony-Ericsson's z800, one of the first with 3G. Also considered a smartphone. Still very flippy. There are probably more....
Sadly I'm afraid one day people will lead lives this way, I hope I leave this earth before that day....I know I wouldn't want to live life like that!!!!
So your smartphone is able to fly and drags you outside with a rope after it served you breakfast? And does it also go on meetings with other randomly floating phones? Sounds scary yet fascinating :p
Bravo! And the saddest part is that we as a species are allready part way there. Tethered at the moment to electronics that are totally dependent on us...for the moment.
If we give them the ability to be self-maintaining, that might be all she wrote for the Human race - especially if they learn how to evolve... Once I read a creepy story by Phillip K.Dick, about little A.I.s that hide in the ground & surface periodically, always in a different form......it became impossible for humans to keep track of the machines' evolutionary process.... You never know...
kurfujitsu If you're interested. "The Second Variety" was the name of the short story and two movies were made from it. "Screamers" and "Screamers: The Hunting".
Hoehner Tim Thanks. Yeah that was the one. Phillip K.Dick wrote many good stories & novels. The Second Variety was one of the the stories in a four-novella collection I read a while back. Heck of a writer. Not surprised Hollywood used so many of his ideas.
They (superior aliens) might transform us into 100s of different species - like we do to to dogs & chickens...I think we'd make great pets......at least it'll ensure the survival of the species....
Wow. In the story, the bots aren't the pets, the humans are. In the future, people are scared of being replaced by bots and that's exactly what happened here.
Rarely do i think of these short films after they are done. Thought about this hours later. Great message, really deep and universal commentary on our devolving social interactions.
Really well done! (Don't read the rest of this comment if you haven't seen the film -- spoiler alert)
Fortunately for my dog (here in my pic) she comes with me to Gala Events. She even came with us on a helicopter tour once. She's a service dog, so she gets to go everywhere. But sometimes I do wonder where she'd take me, if the choice were up to her? Probably we'd spend every day at the dog park, lol.
When I take my mother-in-law's dog out for a walk, I generally let the dog lead unless she tries to go somewhere dangerous, like into traffic. Other than that, I let her go to either side of the road, sniff whatever she wants for as long as she wants, go as far down the road as she wants, that sort of thing. She's a good girl, though, and doesn't like getting into much mischief, which is part of the reason I give her that much freedom.
I often let my dog lead me. She mostly wants to go into the forest, but also has led me to children parks, so I have to lead her out of there since a lone adult with a cute dog may get suspected by parents if they keep showing up at places like that 😑
yes like evert one else says VERY WELL DONE,,, it grabs you ,, causes a response from deep down inside.. I think it hits a nerve .. you know the one that causes us to fight for freedom.. i liked it.. and at the same time i think it was so fuked up... could you only picture if our lives were like that ... who ever wrote this has a dark mind.. and a good understanding of the human emotional process. good job
i only refer the dark mind cause most (my opinion) people cant initiate this kind of response in the human psyche.... people must and cant think outside the box to get the reaction your video does..AND... Im an artist my self .. good job on not over doing it either.. leaving so much for the mind to fill in. nicely thought through..
You are very smart. Thank you for having the courtesy to hide the spoiler. You renew my faith in humanity (sorely tested of late). Either that, or an audience willing to watch, and comment on, syfy flix may be an unrepresentative sample...
Excellent story telling in five minutes than most two hour movies. Excellent acting, effects and cinematography work, with multiple interesting locations. It mirrors how we treat our own "pets", and hints how we may be evolving into a speechless society where technology tethers us controlling our most every action, restricting are freedom of true expression. I expect great things in the future from the creators of this project 🏆
Indigoblue Enthustiast "novody uses facebook anymore bro" We should be so lucky. You and those you know may have evolved past that -- or never have felt the need in the first place. But, sadly, you are not a representative sample. Far too many are still tethered --and partly controlled.
Holy shit! Individual sovereignty abdicated! Morning kibbles?! "Maintenance? Great! And the LvB was perfect in the kennel area. Great job, everybody! Cheers!
...Just had a flashback to THAT Doctor Who episode. You know the one. OMG, if it scared me as an adult, it would've messed me up had I see it as a kid. Halfway through this. This is amazing for a student film!

The walk is all about the dog.
What about your dog never getting to have sex? Or a relationship? ...that was in there too....

1:02 robot feeds man
1:12 robot plays movie for man
1:53 robot takes him on walk
2:32 the robot talks to other robot but human is silent
3:52 robot goes to party leaves man
4:15 man goes into cage while robot party's
4:22 robot party's
4:58 men are in cages
omg the humans are the pets
That is a great analysis of the idea. :-D
David Schuster thank you
What abt the woman that walking alone when he saw in robot salon?
Euodia Percy mabye not all robots have humans
cat lover they met before when their robots greeted each other on the street whom he gave her the flower.
Now I have to go hug my dog....
TheGrayman1234 I had the exact same thought while watching this.
TheGrayman1234 why
yeah, go hug your master.
You are a much more loving pet owner than these robots
But avoid the usage of "coolio".
1 flower was killed int the making of this movie :(
Not really . . . a plant was just given a haircut.
Carlos Idelone
Technically, the flower part of the plant did die, just not the root system that will make another flower. Strands of hair aren't alive so that analogy doesn't work.
but hair =/= flower.
Well ... come to think of it, probably a few hundred ants too. (Sob)

Brilliant alternative universe...Thoroughly enjoyed it
Johanna Kidd it is not alternative, look at your cellphone or other's cellphone.
Creative Rocket Studios as he typed in the comment *on his cellphone*
smh. Just shut up🙄

Don't trust a robot that says "Coolio"
Tim Moore well it’s it’s owner saying that. The robot is just a messenger
Maddieleigh 20XX I think you missed the point of the video.

Interesting and depressing....Well done though!!
😂😂😂😂 IM SO DUMB, I THOUGHT THEY WERE TALKING TELEPATHICALLY. i get it now.
Not dumb at all; it was deliberately ambiguous.
the room in which the gala event is held is gorgeous! Love the music and sound effects.
Beethoven.So....explore.Never too late;-).It's the second part from the C minor sonata. Now you have to find whitch one of them.
Love the camera work and the Black Mirror vibes.
Great to hear, you like it. :-)
ah yea for sure.. was just thinking that too! lol
That's the first thought I had. Although, I kinda knew what was going on from the title and the opening. No big "Black Mirror" twist. But still a well-made, thought-provoking film.
I LOVE tge take on checking your coat!
Wow screamed Black Mirror, This should be a longer episode or at least carry on with the story. Bravo.
This is exactly what our smart phones are doing to us.
I still have a flip phone!
Those two are not mutually exclusive.

I enjoyed this. The film has a distinctive feel. Incidentally, I think the main actor is very handsome. Great work.
This is why I have 9 dogs and treat them with incredible respect. I dog rescue and foster homeless dogs. They are my heart and purpose.
Woah, I totally didnt saw that coming, that is so cool!!
Nice twist at the end. Usually pick things up pretty quick but it took me a second to realize the pets weren't the machines it was the people.
"Will there be another race to come along & take over for us?
Maybe Martians could do better than we've done.
We'll make great pets."
I've actually read a story named Humans Don't Make Good Pets... so there's room for some debate.
Pornos for Pyros fan too
no Martians are found on Mars Sorry not Sorry.
Well they haven't checked the whole planet yet . . . lol
They (superior aliens) might transform us into 100s of different species - like we do to to dogs & chickens...I think we'd make great pets......at least it'll ensure the survival of the species....
Cant say Stephen Hawking (RIP) and Elon Musk didn't warn about this.
Two of the greatest scams of our times.
Stephan Hawking was a scientist, occupied the same seat at Isaac Newton, he is indeed a great scientist.
Interesting reversal and concept. Let's hope the future is not quite like this one. Nicely done!
woodstoney Future?! Can i move to where you live?
Squirrel Guirrel what
Let's hope it is so those of us with anger issues can just have at the tech with ball bats.
Maddieleigh 20XX its kinda already happening (the way we treat animals)
I absolutely agree with you, Amen! :)
Ironically watched this on my smartphone.
(Or is this my smartphone talking while i am in a cubicle...?).
strange lee hey go outside. It's a bit bright, but much more enjoyable than being in your little space inside
Wow. In the story, the bots aren't the pets, the humans are. In the future, people are scared of being replaced by bots and that's exactly what happened here.

That's not what the movie meant apparently. It's hinting towards the dark future of humans.

Bravo!!! Did not see where this was going until the end. Loved the pacing, score, moments, .... All!
Man, the realization that the spheres are actually the ones talking and making the moves here was heavyyyyyy
Nice one!

As soon as he was served breakfast, i knew he was the pet!
You are very smart.

Fun is physical. How much fun can eyebots have?
This was better than a ton of SciFi stuff on Netflix. I suffered through 2 hours thinking it'll get better..most didnt.
Im Gegensatz 99 Fire Film, bei dem ich noch Schwächen empfand, ist dieser Film Top Notch!
Danke sehr, das freut mich zu hören. Auch, dass du wiederkehrender Zuschauer bist. :-D

I thourghly enjoyed this...hope it becomes a movie....well done
Great short movie. How lonely we will be in the future. How sad.
Scary. Good job.

Had to watch it twice. Great stuff
THIS IS SOOO GOOOD. BLACK MIRROR WHO????
Mega gut! Steven Preisner ist echt gut! Toller Film und mega Effekte !
Very nice, original and tender way to suggest our future...
This is brilliant and intriguing. Love itttt
The twist was awesome.
Saw that one coming before I even hit the play button
Mind blowing!
Sneaky, Mr/Mz Film-Maker, sneaky! :-)
That is really what i expect from shorts :) great work guys!!
Oh guyz it was beautiful and brilliant
Excellent work! The future of German film might be bright, after all, as long as it remains universal like this.
Excellent creation.
Woah can't say i didn't see that coming lol! Good short👍
Futuristic life 🙃 awesome
Super Quality content
🐒 This puts a new spin on enlightenment. 🤗
Beautiful metaphor. Not so over the current nowadays that you cannot perceive the path we are happily walking.
What a beautiful concert hall. And they did not go and see it. What a shame!!
Its strange to see people as pets. Loved the video but a terribly sad ending.
Well, Scott Adams did one say that cubicles are cages for human beings.
And in Planet of the Apes, humans are the pets.
This is some Black Mirror shit. I love it.
*FoOd for thought!* 👊😎
THIS IS MY LIFE! help me, help, I don't want to throw the ball anymore.
Somehow more relatable in 2021. Love it!
THX 1138 (the first short film) is a deeper look at this. Should really be on the Dust channel.
...Just had a flashback to THAT Doctor Who episode. You know the one. OMG, if it scared me as an adult, it would've messed me up had I see it as a kid. Halfway through this. This is amazing for a student film!
Discordo craque
Toller Film! Steven Preisner zu sehen ist immer eine Freude!
good job! brilliant idea..
Thought provoking and very haunting!!!
The was deep. Liked it. Well done.
This has become one of my favorite short films.
I believe one day robots will make us pets.
That was beautiful 😍
People as pets..robots as “human masters”..brilliant and frightening
Really good work.
Really wanted to see a disclaimer at the end of credits that no humans were harmed in the filming of this. That would have been so cool. Oh, excuse me. COOLIO.
Simple but brilliant!
Woah... That's so shocking! Great imagination.
We are well on our way to achieving this vision . Probably another couple of generations.
..
Intelligent story !!
Seems to me like the future of the Terminator universe but without the nuclear war and the destruction.
Brilliant and disturbing at the same time.
Niceeeeeee.... 😍💃
I need an alarm clock like this guys !
Brilliant!
Loved the piano, sounds like Chopin
Beethoven -- Pathetique.
oh man, the people are the spheres pets!
Made in Germany, the structured utopia. The old Prussian emperor probably shed a tear as he watched his people (though in thought) create what he did so well in the army. May it last a thousand years. I wonder if in the Chinese version, the master would be choreographing an army of Tai Chi practitioners. Its calculations on how to narrate the play, "tilt the wrist slightly thus by 5 degrees". I would imagine after teaching the pets math and self defense, they would have calculated their escape on their way to the holding cell. Since man are akin to primates , from what we see usually means war.
A positive side, as men, the computer would remove the embarrassing breaking of the ice. I wonder if women will miss even the cheesiest pick up lines. That was a really good short video 🙂
Anything that guggles the man's brain leading to unnecesary acts...like the "craze" things.
Tv, internet, cell phones. great job.
Well done!
Well then, my cellphone is the oldest version of this uo to date drones! I like it!😂😂😂😂😎
The turning point ...damn ! So cool!
