I saw a interview with him earlier this summer, and he was asked how he came up with his unique style of guitar playing, especially solos. Tom said back in 92/93-ish, a magazine, I think Rolling Stone, don't quote me, had a blurb from a then popular club DJ, saying that turntables were the new instrument, and he's gonna put every guitarist out of business. Tom told the interviewer he said to himself, oh yeah mother f%*&er, how bout I make my guitar sound like a turntable, and he said he went straight to his guitar and started working on that sound..lol.
LOVE me some Rage. These dudes were speaking truths that the public needs to hear then and especially now. Stand up to corrupt government officials with your mind and vote. They were calling out police brutality then and unfortunately as we all know it still exits today. You’ll love their catalog. Hope to see some more reactions to them. Peace✌️

I've only saved 54 RATM songs in Spotify. Only 54. It does make you want to throat punch a muhfuh. They cover some hip songs, on the "Renegades of Funk" album, and it is tall F.I.R.E!
A few Rage suggestions: - "Know Your Enemy" with lyrics (important to see the lyrics) - "Killing in the Name" their live 1993 performance is the best one - they absolutely KILL it in their live 1993 performance!!! The song is very relevant today - it is about white supremacy and police brutality. - "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with lyrics (important to see the lyrics) - "Renegades of Funk" - "Guerilla Radio" - "Vietnow"
He makes reference to the book Fahrenheit 451. They don’t gotta burn the books they just remove em. Read Fahrenheit 451 a book from 1953 that has incredible insight about where we are and where we are heading
The guitarist Tom Morello was starting Rage and asked his buddy Maynard James Keenan (Tools singer) to be the singer for the band but Maynard said he knew someone better and introduced him to Zach De La Rocha and the rest is history.
I really like where you say "right" and nod along with "they don't need to burn the books they just remove them". The sad news is they don't even need to remove them, but the good news is that means you can read them. Noam Chomsky, Peter Kroptokin, Karl Marx. And "Wake Up" with lyrics... there's a part at the end that gets drown out by the music that's really important.
Rage are legends to me. It's not often there is a band that is so hard to mimic. The insane sounds Tom Morello makes with his guitar are unlike anything. The bassist a lot of time plays the guitar part and is killer, the drums are perfect and vocals mean something. That combination equals Legends 🤘😝🤘
After RATM broke up, the band formed a supergroup with Chris Cornell called AudioSlave. Totally different but absolutely amazing. After Chris' death, the band formed a band called Prophets of Rage with Chuck D from Public Enemy.
Never comment. True. Your honest opinion is refreshing..can feel your listening ear. One of the best lyricist ,to beat,,,with information for us all. Down Rodeo has to hit the list. 2 good..
Hey man have been listening for awhile and like what you say. You are open minded and get whats going on in the music. With Rage put their shit on with wicked head phones grab their lyrics and sit back. Like you said your heart was still racing lol listen too an album or two you would think you fought Mayweather getting tapped a hundred times. Like what you do and say man your are a wise man. Peace and love from Ottawa Canada
They are what you think they are! This one is raging against the military industrial complex. You will love Know your enemy. I would do the lyric videos for them, especially for Down Rodeo. The only instruments they use are a guitar, bass, and drums, so any sound you think is scratching or are like "wtf is that? " it's always Tom Morello on the guitar. It's hard to believe until you watch a live performance 😆.
No Shelter, Know Your Enemy, Darkness, Mic Check, Without a Face, Down Rodeo, and Wake Up are great songs to start with. Welcome to the Rage rabbit hole, you're gonna love it down here.
Honestly, today one would have to wonder if his minor was Lesbian Dance theory. Nothing coming out of schools today demands respect unless you question which bathroom to use or if you've expressed your guilt enough. Anyone stupid enough to buy the myths that divide, deserves a degree in "mike brown philosophies" at Yale or some shithole. Doesn't make the sounds any less powerful.
I saw Rage open up for WuTang back in the late 90's in Philly.... unforgettable show with insurmountable energy from beginning to end. I was right at the stage for Wu and almost got a blunt handed to me by Method Man but it went RIGHT over my darn head to someone taller behind me ((still bitter but grateful for the memory
@Green Dreams I don't remember it like that, but to be completely honest: I'm also not remembering if it was in Philly or Camden, NJ.... I don't remember a LOT about those days 😝😏😁 I just remember I was waaaaaay in the back for Rage because the crowd was like chaotic violent (someone still came from the crowd, grabbed me & threw me on the ground) and allllll the way up front for Wu Tang because they were my reason for being there. Either way it went down, it was a bad ass experience.... the music is in my bones ❤
I swear I haven't been feeling that great for quite awhile, but tonight I remembered how much I loved this band and started listening to them and I'm feeling like my old self for the first time in forever. And yes! I'm ready to FIGHT!. Love your take on them also. Know Your Enemy!
I’ve been waiting for you to get to Rage. So glad you’re here! Excited for your journey. Mine started in 92 and I never knew I would appreciate their message SO much more at 47 years old!
I grew up in a pretty big city I am 46 I loved Rock AND rap and no one did it better than rage. The songs still give me goose bumps. Why isn't KILLING IN THE NAME OF the protesters anthem? Check out that tune
LOVIN' your channel man, just discovered it and subbed after 3 songs. Comments are insightful but to the point, you let the song and video do it's thing without stopping, just awesome reactions all the way around. If you do anther Rage song, I vote either Wake Up, or Know Your Enemy, definitely lyric video on either. Keep up the great work!! ✌️
Down Rodeo, Wake Up, Testify, Sleep Now in The Fire, Killing in The Name, all songs you should definitely check out. But one suggestion with RATM songs, react to their lyric videos so you can really get what their music is about
Abra Check out there song: Down Rodeo (my favorite). You may also like "The Power of Equality" by the Red Hot Chile Peppers. Also "Migraine" from Twenty One Pilots.
I love how you say its punch you in the face music! That is how I describe them also. I love music that is aggressive but also has a social message. They were singing about police brutality (Know your enemy), governmental control/power (Bulls on Parade), and the ills of corporate/Wall Street control of the economy (Sleep know with the fire) in 1990! Thirty f'g years ago.
Lovin the beard big dog. Rage is a mix of metal, hip hop and funk. All of their songs are badass. A few of the best IMO is Township Rebellion, Know Your Enemy, Testify and Down Rodeo!
I'm super sad I didn't see this when you first uploaded it. Wasn't subscribed. 🤦🏽 But that has been rectified. The rapper Denzel Curry did an awesome cover of this that all the metal heads love. Would be super dope to see you react to that and maybe one of his songs one day.
Seriously enjoying your channel. Yeah, the lyrics. Download the lyrics and give it another listen, you'll be even more amazed. Zach's style and flow combined with his passion and ripping bars set to that monster music can't be beat. Epic. Keep up the great work my man. Peace from Chicago
Favorite band of all time!! Started following these guys when I saw them for the first time at Lollapalooza in 1992, I was 15! I never looked back. I’ve seen them live 9 times, taken my oldest son to see them when he was 17, this year when they reunited, I bought tickets to take my 17 year old daughter to see them live at Coachella, and because I didn’t know if my youngest would have the chance to see them in 2 years when he turns 17 I bought him and I tickets to the Oakland show! Obviously Covid interfered with that, but I hope they will still get to experience the live phenomena of Rage. Rage is gospel in our house!! I strongly urge you to react to Down Rodeo, Wake Up, and Testify. But please do it with lyrics in hand. You have to hear what Zach is saying. Rewind as many times as necessary, do background before you listen, many reactors do, Rage is complicated, we don’t mind, as long as you react, I’m here with you. This is my new favorite pastime. Watching other people discover and appreciate the pure genius of one of the most gifted lyricist/rapers of all time, ZDLR, to watch people realize those sounds they think are turntables, or a keyboard, are actually tricks being played on you, by the talented Tom Morello, you pair that with Tim’s smooth yet hard hitting Bass, and Brad’s drums. Those two, man they can lull you into a catatonic state. You feel their beat within your being as you wait for Tom and Zack to join in, but while you rock with Tim and Brad, you are one with them, swaying in a lunging forward motion... waiting... and then it happens.. all hell breaks loose. Then in perfect synchrony Zach wails, Tom shreds his guitar, in perfect unison with Brad and Tim, and us the fans are moving as one in the crowd. This is our therapy. This is catharsis feels like. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
This album came out during the L.A. riots and the Rodney King Trial. You're bringing me back to high school!Down Rodeo and Wake Up ~ master pieces 💜💜 Wu Tang 💜💜
That scratching was done by Tom Morello on his guitar. Not a turntable scratch.
Bump this comment, was about to comment the same thing!
Just as I read this, that part came up. Sick. Tom is gifted af.
I was about to write this, should have know it would already be covered.
No lie, Zach De La Rocha is one of the most underrated Lyricists of all time.
The best. Ever.
Can't argue that.
Who underated him? Everyone that's heard him has never doubted his skills, that's an empty statement looking for agreements that are obvious.
Hes still putting in work with run the jewels. It might be the most important music out right now. Few others are even trying to use their voice.
What not at all underrated
No scratching, all guitar by mad genius Tom Morello.
Wow
Yeah this wasn't a video not to watch.

I've only saved 54 RATM songs in Spotify. Only 54.
It does make you want to throat punch a muhfuh.
They cover some hip songs, on the "Renegades of Funk" album, and it is tall F.I.R.E!
Tom Morello is one of the most innovative, inventive guitarists of all time.
A few Rage suggestions:
- "Know Your Enemy" with lyrics (important to see the lyrics)
- "Killing in the Name" their live 1993 performance is the best one - they absolutely KILL it in their live 1993 performance!!! The song is very relevant today - it is about white supremacy and police brutality.
- "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with lyrics (important to see the lyrics)
- "Renegades of Funk"

- "Vietnow"
Good list. I would just add "Darkness" to it.
Took me ages to get into The Ghost of Tom Joad, but damn that song is amazing! One of RATM's very best!
Tom Joad is a Bruce Springsteen song. Rage just covered it.
Down Rodeo, Wake Up, you have to watch with lyrics of their songs to catch everything but all their songs are fire
Please react to RATM , "Down Rodeo" or "No Shelter"
Down Rodeo and People of The Sun, are INTENSE.
