This is one of my favorite games of all time, aboot top 5, top 10 at least. It's just really special to me. It combines a mon aspect with the collection of the different mutations, with the themes of evolution and survival and nature, and wraps it all up in this abstract cubist world that is just so visually striking. And it doesn't hurt that it's just so fun to actually play. Oh, and the music too, is also something special. The only real downside I can think of is that occasionally it can get frustrating, either because of having a bad combination in a level where progressing is inordinately difficult, or if I'm trying to methodically fill out the mutation chart and something screws that up (like taking the wrong color limb from a pale-dark or clash cubivore, for instance), but I don't think this represents a fundamental issue with the game and is more an emergent property that sometimes is honestly my fault. And even in the most frustrating moments, it's never like fuck-you-impossible or anything, it's extremely reasonable all things considered.
Also that final boss fight is so damn intense. I used to just play through that over and over. I just love how visceral it is. It's honestly incredible how much of a sense of untamed carnage this game elicits from a bunch of cubes bonking into each other.

So I discovered your channel while checking out your Digimon x review which helped a lot and then I saw this and had to respond! I have this game and still play it here and there never realized how big of a deal this game has become now being 36 and when I'll talk to other retro gamers there jaw drops when I talk about owning it... Nice work!

I was reminded of this game’s existence when videos about the N64 prototype getting dumped started popping up on my recommendations. And then I found this video while looking back at this game.
You did it justice. This game deserves more attention. Especially now that we can see the N64 original and how the game started.

I've been fascinated by this game, even though I haven't played it yet (I'm gonna be ordering a Japanese copy of it).
For some reason it reminds me of Katamari Damacy, maybe it's the kind of pastel color palette? The Munchables for the Wii is kind of like Cubivore mixed with Katamari, I think.
It is really a weirdly relaxing game, I've been watching longplays of it. The low poly, simplistic (yet stylistic) graphics, the calming tunes, and the weird cuteness of your avatar and his simple-minded (I gotta eat, I gotta mate) mindset but also weird poetic and witty monologues.

My Unity scripting instructor is a fan of this game and we had an assignment to replicate the basic mechanics of it.
Just looking thru my old projects and checking what the game is supposed to be like 😅

It was definitely a lot of fun! However I do plan on making this a series of videos based on other interesting mechanics as I uncover them in my other games 😁 I'm already in the writing stages for a few other similar videos
