It looks great. Thanks for flying the American flag. So many people in our country disrespect it, it is great to know people from other countries don’t. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I think this was a perfect car to leave bare metal. It came out great. Hopefully another car comes along here and there that can be done this way.
Thank you, for the video reminder on how to remove the base, and set up the casting to receive a screw.
A beautiful result, on a classy cast. Wow! :)
Thank you for finally telling me the sizes of bits and tap to use and for demonstrating the proper technique I've been reticent to do any of these because I was afraid I would come up with the wrong tools you know like the wrong pants
Thank you for doing the video, Rob! I really like how it turned out. I hope you'll do more like this.
Lovely job Rob. Good choice of casting to polish too. As it's an older, classic car, I think the imperfections actually work and add character.
Rob, love your videos - thanks for sharing. That Grinding/Polishing Wheel needs it's own dedicated space. You have to Bolt it to a solid base, for safety. I know you love your hobby, as much as I enjoy watching your videos, but I don't want you to get hurt. Stay safe. You are very talented. (the paint booth is for paint, not polishing.)
Agree. Next paint job may be full of dirt, dust or fuzz.
100% paint removal! Rob, this model looks absolutely beautiful in its polished state only. The base red interior matches perfectly. I'm happy to see you finish up a model in this state, I think the Mercedes wss a perfect choice in this case. Well done and keep safe!
Very nice. A convertible Mercedes always reminds me of the '80s TV series "Hart to Hart."
Nice job, very shiny finish.
For the polisher base, if you dont want to permanently bolt it to a board, get a piece of plywood to fit inside the paint booth, sand it and give it a few coats of floor varnish. The varnish is tough and will give a smooth water resistant surface to wet stick your polisher succion cup feet. And you can use your forearms to keep the board in place.
Very nice job. I enjoyed seeing a more in depth video showing your whole process on restoring a car.
nice polish job on the casting job. i have went back and watched all of your videos to get caught up with ever thing you have done
Very relaxing clip...I haven't realized when 20 minutes have passed 😊..and even if I would have expected a different color for this beautiful SL, I must admit that it really looks well polished like that.
Great clip 👍👍😊
Super looking result Rob! The little bit of detail you added makes this model really shine. I agree that ejection across the room whilst buffing is never good. When you showed the drill and tap process I thought wow, going back to the earlier days. A very enjoyable video! Cheers!!
I do like the bare naked look of these Matchbox cars however they do tarnish over time without protection. Lovely job, well done and keep it up.
Wow what a transformation absolutely love the polished look.
Great! I watched every second of this unusual video with incredible interest. This roadster now looks like a jewel, congratulations! I also appreciated you showing the drill scar. Everything has been enthrilling & instructive : thanks for shooting and sharing the process.
100% Paint Removal! The car looks fantastic!
Hey Rob.
Drill two holes in the bench and fix two bolts sticking up (toward the roof/ceiling/and just drop the polisher over the two bolts when needed and two nuts to hold it down.
Nice job! I think the diecast looks nice with no paint. It's a very classy Mercedes. Awesome! Thanks Rob.
Nice change of pace, beautifully done Rob
You've answered the question I've had for a long time now. Magnificent job, Rob! Looks fantastic.
That looks terrific! To prevent deterioration of the surface finish you can use rennaisance wax. Its great for bare metal protection.
Hi Rob,nice model in chrome,it looks like a limited edition Mercedes, with the small details it is awesome.
It was a great idea to choose the Mercedes. It's a lovely model.
Nice work Rob👌👍👏
Great job Rob, I didn't expect it to come out so well. I'd love to see this treatment one a VW beetle and Porsche 911.
From shabby to shiny! 👍
This looks superb.....reminds of the chrome Yesteryear models that were on the ashtrays and pen holders....great stuff ....that was a lot of work...!
100% paint removal and shinny. Looks like a million bucks.
Nicely done......silicon rubber in the suction cups will hold it down...keep safe and we'll see you in the next shoot 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️👍❤️❤️
Great job with the Polished Work on theMatchbox Mercedes Benz230SL looks Stunning . 💯 Percent paint removed .
Beautiful...I'm up to my eyeballs in polishing equipment but now I'm considering a bench polisher too!
100% paint removal, love your work.
Great bare metal shine! Another 💯 % paint removal. The Mercedes looks very nice, definitively something diferent 👍
Hey Rob thanks for tip and tricks of how to buff and polish the metal bodies of the car that’s a process that I need to learn , for your new piece of equipment you can bolt it down in place so it doesn’t slip and go all over the place and to make it easier for you to polish
Try using a wall or floor tile for your wheel , nice finish... Two thumbs up... 😂
Wow! Look way better than I anticipated. Great job as always
excellent job - thanks for showing us how its done
Great job... When you said you were keeping original wheels I was apprehensive and werent sure it would look good but im pleasantly surprised... Well done sir!
100% paint removal , Looks great !
It's so shiny! Very nice work, Rob
This turned out beautifully.
I can't help but think that a Rolls, if you have one, would be great to do this with.
That looks fantastic. It's one of my favorite of the classic Lesney castings--I had one in the batch of '60s Matchboxes I was given by an uncle when I was little. As I recall, mine was Fingernail Polish Beige (not my doing :).
I love the polished looks it's brilliant.
Love the detail in the lights.
WOW! Just...wow! Beautiful! 🤩
That is awesome. I want one. Hmm 🤔 . Rob try screwing the buffing machine to a small concrete tile - or something with a larger base. Brilliant job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic. Love the polished look!
It's a learning curve Rob, the more you use the wheel the better you'll be at getting all areas covered uniformly. The detailing works with this so well. Other polish cars, the Poliski Fiat of course (j/k) A Roller would be the obvious choice and a double decker bus of some type maybe the easiest with all those flat surfaces .
BLING! SPARKLY!. Super nice!
I have a collection of cars I have stripped and left polished raw like you've done. A lot of them look really cool like that! Try a Ferrari, they look good with the red interior also. Nice job Rob!!
I think it came out well nice, Rob!
Really like this one rob shining up the casting was brilliant mate great idea 👍👏
Awesome job
Came out great!
Another 100% removal!
I think the polished look suits this casting very well. And I think that, with time and practice, you'll get better at it. :)
I think any luxury brand car would do nicely as a polished model. It would give that extra 'bling' factor.:)
Maybe coat it with Renaissance Wax to keep the shine?
glad you fixed up this Mercedes , they are really good looking cars.
Nice job! Looks awesome! Well Done! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Perfect choice of car for polishing
100% PR! Looks great Rob
The car looks great. As for the bench grinder, I would definitely make a box to bolt it into. I also just had a thought about making some sort of metal bar with a slot to screw the body to to keep it from flying away while polishing. Another thing you might do, is get some polishing wheels for your dremel, that would allow for slower speeds while polishing, as I have seen another person do. Going to do my first restoration very soon.
Bolt the polisher to a piece of plywood and use a pair of vise grips or c- clamps to secure it to your desk.
Hello Rob. Finally I can like and comment again. I've been waiting for the Chrome model. Told myself I will not like and comment here until I see a chrome model as promised by Rob. You delivered today. So glad to be back liking and commenting on your fine work. Suggestion... I personally would like to see and hope for more aerodynamic model for Chrome jobs. I have seen many of your videos where you have very Dynamic aerodynamic models that could be chromed. I think you know what I mean. Thanks for the Chrome models! I will start commenting and liking again. Nicely done.
Hi rob and family great video lovely work and the polishing on a German motor well done mate 100%👍can’t wait for next one be nice to see a big car beaing done for 2021 good work indeed ❤️
Excellent job. Your methods are accurate.
Nice and shiny! Only done one polished car and it took forever - I think for the ultimate shine you have to zinc coat the casting first to fill any imperfections
This is absolutely gorgeous
Came out good nice and shiny but I prefer when you paint it
I remember when you first mentioned doing a polished car over a year ago. At last .... awsome job. ✌
Yeah it was about time
Looks great polished up.
I do this to all my beater vintage cars, gives a new lease of life
what you could try is to use a very visible diluted paint on spots you think may still not be a smooth as you want it to. When that paint (say red) is fully removed, you know you have polished out all the pits and scratches that were there ;) ... I would even suggest nuln oil but as that is dark to begin with, it may not show as much.
Other than that: nice work :)
That caustic soda reaction was odd, this time. But you can't argue with 100% paint removal!
Very nice, Rob.
Nice build and details 👍
Perfect job Rob
Great job Rob 👍👍👍👍
Maybe put a clear coat on it. That casting looks great.
Yes I'd like to see some plastic in the soda and see the effect.
Great job Rob what a great looking car it looks fine on it’s own wheels! It would be very interesting to see what other things do in caustic soda so I would watch those videos with interest! Congrats on 100% Paint removal and take care of yourself mate
Very unique, I like it!
Always great choice
100%. Would love to see any experiment you want to do on anyting that has to do with these cars. If you don't do it I'm going to. LOL. Came out pretty cool. Now would you clear coat that? I would probably take a black and highlight the license plate and the front grill. Turn out nice Rob. Thanks for the video. Stay safe.
Exellent work ,looks good nice casting had one as ñ child 👏
Quality resto Rob. 👍👍🙂🙂
Interesting finish.
Awesome! Been waiting for you to leave one like this! Great work!
Awesome job sir.👍
Like a mirror . Awesome. 😁
I would like to see you do a Rolls-Royce Phantom in a polished look I think it would be killer specialty it was one super fast well done I say for what you have to start with and those Mercedes is always fund of to do thank you again
Great results, looks amazing Rob. A Delorean would've been a good choice too for this treatment.
Looks great I don't have the patience for that kind of job.
Looks great. Good job
Nice job my friend.
Nice 100% looks great. A pair of c clamps might w3irk to hold the buffer in place
Exelente canal amigo , lo sigo de hace unos años ya. Saludos cordiales desde Argentina 🇦🇷 Bs As.
Nice remodel the Mercedes sports cars were always known as the silver arrows.
Yea, its like the racing decision story from way back in the day. The reason old mercedes racecars are silver is because the original paint was lead based and their car was to heavy to race with the devision. So they stripped the paint to make it follow all regulations
That looks fantastic. I honestly can’t figure out why more restorers don’t use a polishing machine instead of a dremel. Don’t get me wrong the dremel does a good job but a nothing beats a polishing machine finish. 👍👍😊
A series of sports cars polished up, Jags, Ferraris etc.
I like this a lot!
