Matchbox restoration Mercedes 350SL nr 6 diecast car making parts

The Mercedes 350 SL was created at the Lesney factory in 1974. My model didn't have a roof or windshield. I made both these parts. I also made the wheels together with the axles because they were in terrible condition. The Superfast wheel axles were made by the welding machine I made.

Awesome job Paul, turned out like brand new and it’s so cool how you make so much of your own parts, I like your little machine for doing the axles.
I had one of these cars when I was a kid and loved it, I still have it but the little tab on the top of the windscreen that holds the roof on has snapped off !

I had the Mercedes in 1977. It cost NZ $0.99 (as all Matchbox super fast series) back then. Mine had the black vinyl roof.

If anyone is a fan of movies and certainly the horror genre, check out The Shining.
The little boy in the film is seen playing with some toy cars in one small scene and this Mercedes is one of the models he has laid out on the carpet floor in the hotel.
I lost one of these beautiful little cars down a hole by the swimming pool in our village primary school grounds.
For all I know, some 45yrs later, it might well still be there decomposed 😕
Hopefully someone finds it down there, sees this video and begins to restore the car..
