So cool. This is my bass. Dave lives close by and has done work on several of my basses and guitars over the years. Really, there was no one else I would entrust this to. This is my #3 bass, fitted with flatwounds for a more vintage sound but will be going to rounds when it is done. Might end up with half rounds ....have to see. Dave also worked on my Godin A5 fretless a few years back and I love that bass and use it for an unplugged trio I play in. For bigger bands with my big rig it feeds back too much so going to work this puppy into the other R&B band along with my Warwick Bubinga Corvette 5 Standard and my custom bass, which has a Warwick spec 5 string neck. Each has their own sound and feel. Really excited about this and forever grateful to Dave for his friendship and his work...and these videos which are really fun.
I played with a guy back in the 70’s who did the same thing to a jazz bass, left the frets in and just filed them all down, then refinished the finger board, did a nice job too. Very cool Dave!
This is a RockBass though, which are cheaper and not quite at that high Warwick standard. They sound different from ordinary Warwicks too. Still not bad basses.
Dave, I have had success using "Liquid Nails" in a caulking gun to fill the fret slots. I overfill the slots to allow for shrinkage and after drying , I sand away the excess before radius sanding.
So i stumbled over this channel. And my two cents. Suddenly lusted after a fretless too. One Ibanez apeared on the used marked to a crazy low price, almost new. Wel, that went fast. Come to think of it, there’s a Levinson Blade J bass collecting dust here, so why not take that. Already. Managed to save it a little bit already. Truss rod nut was broken, i found out after i got it. But finally, got it out and made a new one on the lathe. Metric treads of cause, Levinson was Swiss. Anyway, found a plier i didn’t knew i had, right shape to pull the frets, so i did this evening. But the ebony board was so brittle, it splintred off tiny bits even with heating and steam. Ebony dust and superglue? Found a suppier for venier in maple, so hurray!! Seems like it can be something playable, i hope. That’s how it is if your’e a little bit handy, you cannot help yourself. Signing off, byby!
I don't get not radiusing the bottom of the fill veneer. Unless we're also cutting the nut slots flat... wow this really is a no-going-back mod. I see... 👍🏼
well, ill have to say ive never seen this done, nor understand why you would want to do this to a bass, but im very interested to see the results and how its done. i guess its different strokes for different folks kinda thing. obviously the right person is doing this!! Daves the Man!
Fretless instruments, including fretless electric basses, sound substantially different than their respective fretted counterparts; obviously, then also enable additional playing techniques. I fell in love with the sound of fretless electric bass as a child, thanks to the score of the movie With Honors, and I will never be able to play such an instrument myself due to spastic cerebral palsy.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff oh fruity language mate! Nice looking bass! Looks well cared for.
Lol I immediately went "Oh boy, you'll get some comments for this one from the Warwick fans Dave" then you gave your little speech about it hehe
Very interesting, this is the first time I’ve ever seen this done.I’m anxious to see this one finished!
I did it a couple of times. Last one I used maple veneer edging on the fret slots and super glue instead of resin as fretboard finish
Can’t wait to see that bass into a fretless one. ✌️

Reminds me of putting cards in spokes on a bicycle.
Fascinating video, looking forward to the rest of the procedure! Cheers from Vancouver Dave!
More to come!
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Warwicks hold a special place in my heart. Aren't they all made of oak?
Very cool. Don’t recall you doing a video like this before
Warwick make some of the best basses in the world and they cost it as well. Never seen you work on a Warwick Dave. Good job.

@@unduloid Oh ok. I'm not that familiar with the range of basses they do but I do know that some serious engineering goes into the expensive ones.

Inspiring !
excellent -thanks much Dave!
Glad you liked it!
Strap-On?? Dave's world of Only Fans!!! Bwahaha
I thought the slots would be radius'd as well? Did you "flatten" the bottom of the slots, or how does that go?
Great video.
Thanks!
"It's not a strap-on folks; it's a reach-around..."
I have always thought Warwick made such cool looking basses. They were (probably still are) WAY out of my price range.
Maybe you will be able to afford a RockBass then, which is what this is.
Freakin cool Dave!
Sweet job there Dave! 🏆🏆
How dare y- oh, it's a rockbass. Okay.
I think I’ll try that on my 0-18.
I hate it when nuts fall apart. That will ruin yer night in a hurry
I have a Warwick Corvette 4 string bass, but it was already a fretless when I bought it.
A Warwick, or a RockBass like this one?
Nice video Canuck. Never seen this before. Is it true bass players really have more fun?
Nice work Dave. The warwick headstock is really uninspired, otherwise, its a beaut.
Just curious, with all your fantastic editing, it is hard to tell just how long it took you to do this modification.
I'm not done maybe WEEKS
My main reason for hating Bob Villa is he could build a house in one 30-minute episode.. The wife always wonder why it took so long to do my projects.
Yeah Dave nice North American pronunciation 😂 WAR WICK! The second ‘w’ is silent mate! Try saying WARICK… Love your work fella, nice job!

Warwicks are good when you cant find a Spector
Found the guy that hasn't played a Warwick
You can find Spector basses everywhere these days. But I like both.
I'd love to get me one of those Spector LAYER 4s though. I'm such a weeb...
Pull the fretboard off and replace with a notchless board!
but then you can't see where the frets would be
