I know so many people said Simon was an ass and said he has no business judging the show because he's not a singer. No, he's not a singer, he's a music executive and producer. He's the kind of person that a singer ends up working for and executives and producers DO talk to singers like that when singers are trying to cut albums. They push singers to be at they're best. People like Simon won't settle for anything less than 100% and you know why? Because they know that audiences and people who buy the albums won't settle for anything less, either. I mean would you settle for just "ok" or for "at best"? Simon also wanted the contestants to get used to this kind of feedback because he knew that the winner of the competition, and maybe the runners up, would be hearing this kind feedback day and night. Being a singer isn't always glamorous, it's also hard work. Singers spend a lot of grueling days and sleepless nights cutting albums or sometimes trying to get just 1 song to sound perfect. Plus, they spend a lot of time on the road doing concerts and rehearsing them.

I always enjoyed Simon's brutal honesty. It's not just the singing, you have to be well loved by the people. That's one reason why Simon liked Carrie Underwood so much, she was a great singer and she was really loved by the public.
Not a good example. Carrie was dull and dry during her time on Idol. Total lack of personality. She is the way she is now courtesy of the Hollywood machine, the music industry, and toning up while dropping 10-15 pounds. Dont get me wrong. It was a good thing for Carrie.
I guess Ruben lights up a room. I can't tell on screen how she is only a 4 and a half. She proves later what she can do when it's the audience that judges to get her the no. 3 spot.
I’m a fan of vocal gymnastics / Mariah-isms too but some singers really do not need to do this to sell a song. I thought Kim sang this song amazingly just with the basic melody.
She's beautiful & also her voice. It goes without saying. & very classy. Her mannerisms & the way she speaks. I like her lol
