  • Anycubic's Mono 4K was a roaring success, a cheap and yet precise 3D resin printer. Well now they've launched its successor, the Mono 2. Anycubic claim this unit will be similarly affordable, attracting first time users and those seeking a bargain. But the Mono 2 also has a few extra features built into it that I'll be pleased to review here today.

    I bought this printer a week ago as a noob to printing. Ran the levelling which was easy and ran the test cube which came out lovely and crisp. Downloaded some files and ran them throu the provided slicer adding supports. My only criticism of the printer is actually the provided slicer, every print I have run throu it has come out with supports which instead of running parallel to the model some are on the model surface.

    I feel this printer is squarely aimed at the mars 3 (and mars 3 pro). Personally I would choose the mars 3 pro over this to get the active carbon filter and the tempered glass screen cover. Great review VOG. Glad to see all the companies duking it out for the lower tier market of 3d resin printing

    • @vogman
      @vogman  Год назад +1

      Anycubic shocked me by how understated the Mono 4K was. For me it printed just as well as the Mars 3 and had a very good price tag (which caused Elegoo to rethink their prices).

      makes sense: early adopters are either already set up, or are referral users who get the printers for free to review. But the untapped and always refreshing low end of highschoolers, college students and curious hobbyists is massive and profit is made in large sales numbers, not in high price high end one-ofs. I think the entry price will still come down over the next few years when the fixed costs are dropping (like frame design and iteration, and other non-core components) and price is only influenced by the core components (lead screw tolerance (z-axis) and UV display in the case of resin printers). I think it will bottom out around US$120-150 without compromising on quality compared to these US$200+ printers. After all, it won't be too long until that section of the market will find a new competitor in the second hand market... So they'll either have to be better for the same price, or cheaper for the same quality, as the second hand printer priced at low 100s. It's just an uninformed guesstimate, though. Never mind my babling hahaha

I dont really have an ppen space like a garage or storage shed where i could put a resin printer and its my only concern. Great review, thanks! But did you found that the new mono 2 is 1.5-2times slower than old models? I discovered very strange behavior-printer adds additional 6 sec of rest time before each layer, no matter what you set in a slicer! Even with light off delay set to zero-there are 6 seconds delay! And it is fw problem, im sure! :(

    Thank you so much for such a comprehensive review as it has reassured us that we've made the right choice for an entry level machine that doesn't skimp on print quality. Will be sure to document our experience on your feedback archive after we've had some time with it.

One of the arms doesn't print because the base gets stuck to the bottom of the resin tub. And one foot, the base that holds the foot up, starts to fall off the riser and ends up warped. What do I do? • @netnoob77

    Was really looking forward to your review of this new machine. I have two Mono 4k printers and they have been great. Looking to perhaps add this to my stable. I do have a couple of concerns though. For one, the Z rail appears to be scrawnier than the Mono 4k. How do you find it handling the printer in person? Is there any flex in the Z rail when printing larger objects or with a full build plate of models? Also does the vat for this use framed FEPs like the Mono 4k? While those are definitely easier to change for beginners, they tend to be pricey, and for that reason, I bought the Photon SE vat to replace the plastic one on my Mono 4k. However, it seem that the vat size for this model is different, and if it does use framed FEPs, I doubt there is another vat in the market that users can switch to if they want to be able to use other FEP alternatives. All in all, there seems to be some cost cutting on this model, like the thin plastic cover, scrawnier Z rail.. but some improvements. If it is $200 or less, it should still sell well. That said, other brands like Phrozen is also targeting the beginner market as they have just announced the Mini 8ks.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  Год назад +1

      I haven't noticed any scrawniness and certainly no wobble (ask Elegoo what happens when I spot wobble). It's a nice replacement... a little better, not massively, but a very good beginners printer and a worthy replacement to the Mono 4K.

Ive just seen this version had 3.0.2 mine is 3.0.1 but noticed your supports are the way they were in the old slicer amd i cant get that in this update! Maybe thats why they pushed this other version out i dont know but its unusable for me now! And the white hurts the eyes!

    I've been getting ready to pull the trigger on a printer and I'm thinking the Mars 3 - mostly because of the complaints about AnyCubic support. I see a lot of "my print failed" questions on FB groups but is it really that hard to get consistent prints? All I want to print is D&D figures and maybe some slightly larger monsters.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  Год назад +2

      It's actually easy to get consistent prints. Unfortunately a lot of newbies blame the printer when in truth not all presupported models print perfectly. I experience that all the time.

    Bought one of these on prime Friday. I’d love to say they’re really noob user friendly out the box, but sadly not. Like I’m literally a noob, didn’t realise the removable piece on the print bed was supposed to come off, as in the instructions it tells you to peel off from other things but not that. So failed first print. The screen protector was scratched so removed that, then subsequently the fep got a small hole in it, and had resin cure in the screen (awesome :/) removed the screen, installed new, that had a crack in it, so more failed prints..currently waiting for 3rd screen to arrive. The update for anycubic workshop won’t install properly, I keep getting an alert pop up no matter how many times i try to reinstall. I think the usb they provide may also need updating(?) as there’s files now missing from it when inserted into the printer. I know 3d printing isn’t supposed to be super easy, but as an intro printer, it could be a bit more henad holding.

      I hadn't thought of that. Maybe that's the reason.
      Alternatively, you could print a handle? Many people do this. Just glue it to the lid and you have one-hand operation and a lid free of marks. Purely as an example, this video by Wham Bam Systems shows a few of them ruclips.net/video/JrIeuAgX7vI/видео.html

      @@vogman i know that it's a marketing tactic the thing is $209 directly from their webstore. And I am aware it's FOMO tactic and I don't like that. At $209 its a decent first printer. The FOMO coupon marketing actually discourages me from buying it because I know it's marketing and if they ever do stop the coupon and sell it at $289.99 it stops being a good printer for the price. But everyone should definitely do their research and not fall for marketing tactics.

    I have a theory about the soft feel blue cover. After seeing other videos of people with resin transfer all over their covers and trying to clean it off with IPA. What if Anycubic has addressed this by making a soft cover that can be simply put in the sun when covered in resin allowing it to cure, then the flexibility of the cover allows you to simply flex it and pop the cured resin off. I own one of these printers and don't know what the covers on other printers are like and whether they are more rigid or not, but I do have a wash and cure station and the cover on that is definitely more rigid and feels as though it would crack if you dropped it on a hard surface. If so, bravo Anycubic if not it is simply a happy accident.

    • @vogman

    No auto-levelling sucks. I've printed a lot, and for me personally, levelling is the biggest PITA. It's not a matter of "if" (you will get fails because the baseplate needs realigning), but "when". Will pass.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  Год назад +2

      Levelling is NOT something you should need to do regularly. Once levelled the plate should be good for many months of printing. It's very rare I readjust any of mine.

    • @D3cyTH3r
      @D3cyTH3r Год назад

      @@vogman Maybe not for a hobbyist, but for commercial amounts it becomes a factor (failed prints every couple of weeks still sucks). And you can accidentally knock it out of alignment when removing/replacing the lid. On my Mars 3 it has two bolts used to secure the plate- it's a horrible design: when you start to use force on the bolt you can actually see the plate move from true. I know you use your other hand to hold it in position, but it's still horribly tricky to get right (and you worry about applying too much downwards pressure in case you damage the glass). As much as I love and respect your opinions VogMan, I will never buy a another printer that doesn't have auto-levelling. It is one of the few things in life that I actually hate with a passion.

      @@vogman They are definitely getting rare. I think I was pretty lucky getting mine and its worked flawlessly. 199 is the starting price so only time will tell but I don't like these cost cutting measures. It always costs more for the consumer in the long run. On the plus side, I do like the vat.
      Interested to know if this has any cooling fans? . I find it a giant plus that the 4k doesn't have any. It keeps the resin smell inside the lid.
