- Hey guy we straight piped our 2011 bmw 328i N51 SULEV at home on a budget. We decided to weld ourselves for the first time and it sounds awesome! We spent $60 on pipes and we borrow a welder so it was very budget friendly. Definitely recommend doing it yourselves if you want to learn how to weld.

Great video man, we're all learning, what I found helped with welding is keeping the material hot, helps avoid the buildup on top
Thanks bro! Appreciate it!
Worst advice ever. Let the pipe cool off. If you really aren't even decent at welding spot weld all around
That rattling might be from the exhaust clamps they might be loose
Hi, great video! The car indeed sounds great and it's always nice seeing people having fun with diying and moding their car! I have the same car with the muffler deleted. But I sometimes find that the car has a bit too much drone on the highway around 2000-2400 rpm. Thus I am thinking about installing a variable exhaust. Is this a good idea? However if I am going to install that, I might also do a resonator delete and secondary cat delete to improve the sound when the valve is open. (Also I kept the stock muffler when I did the delete 4 years ago, should I just sell that?)
The drone never really goes away. It’s the only downside of having a straight pipe set up. I wouldn’t sell the stock exhaust because you might need it to pass smog eventually
@@straightsixgarage2178 Thanks for your fast reply! I see, is it reasonable to install a valved system though? It costs me around 400-500 to do it at a local shop.
@@tristandu1776 yea those are better but those exhaust systems are quite pricey. It’s definitely a better option if you can afford it
Make sure you weld it tight because it’s gonna make a hissing sound
😂
Great job guys! Whered you guys buy the pipes from?
From autozone
Where do I get new gaskets and bolts that connect to the exhaust manifold
FCP or ECS
Check your o2 sensor loss it may rattle,my was take me like 6 times lift car before I found the problem
We found the problem thanks though!
Just wow. If you’re going to own a bmw do it right. Quality is long remembered long after price is forgotten.
Been thinking about doing this, however did you get any codes thrown on the dash?
@@N52e90 no codes
I enjoyed watching this!
Thank you!
@@straightsixgarage2178Hey boss you still got the manifold catalytic I live in cali and I need that for the emissions tests just wanted to know if you did this replacement with the catalytic exhaust manifold or if you straight piped it all the way to the manifold. It does sound nice and I'm thi king about doing a muffler and resonator delete
@@reynoreyno3444 I left the cats on. I only removed the muffler and secondary cats
@@straightsixgarage2178 okay okay so you also left the resonator and cats on but did a sec cat delete and muffler delete got you boss appreciate it gonna try it out on my 325xi
@@reynoreyno3444 sorry we deleted everything except the cats. Even the resonator got deleted
Does the exhaust have a loud drone when on the highway? I've been contemplating doing this to my 328 for awhile now
It doesnt, when the exhaust had the puncture in it, it did have a drone but now it’s gone
What was the diameter of the dual pipes for the y pipe and what was the diameter the single pipe running to the muffler?
About to do this myself as well and not sure what size to buy
The y pipe was 2” and the single pipe running to the muffler was 3”
Thank you brothaaa. How’s the drone from 1200rpm-2800 rpm. Cause with the muffler delete it kinda gnarly at the moment. Did it get worse with no resonator?
@@OokayMechanic everything sounds great, in-line 6 engines sound good with resonator and muffler delete
Sounds great
Thanks!
I wish it was single tip its gonna look way better
nah dual looks better on most cars imo unless its jdm
Bro does it throws any codes on the dash
@@jiidenatv223 it didn’t for us
Hey dude where’d u get the pipes from???
Autozone
Do you think it’ll sound similar on a 325i?
it should since it’s a 6 cylinder
Does this affect mpg
It does not
1000th view ❤
Hold your shroud closer your gas coverage isn’t there and them welds will crack from vibrations due to lack of fusion and possibly penetration probably turn your wire speed down aswell as you look like your getting a lot of overfill aswell better than my welds when I started 🤣🤣
Appreciate the tip 💪🏼😎
