  • Raspberry Pi alternatives for 3D printing, turns out both Klipper and Octoprint can run on routers as well, tho i wouldn't try using calculator.

I decided to go with the thin client pc as you suggested.
Thanks a lot for your videos! Your content is great and very helpful!

Just make sure it has built in wifi card, some sellers take this module out and sell it separately.

I'm using an old Tv box to run octoprint and so far it's working great. It wasn't easy to get working but I already had about 10 of them collecting dust so it was basically free which is better than paying the ridiculous prices for a raspberry pi.

Do u have tutorial to make it work? Thx b4

@@andrikurniawan531 Unfortunately I don't. Android tv boxes can have very different specs depending on the model and even within the same model. So you just have to figure out what you have and do some googling to see if there is a compatible version of linux that will work with the tv box you have. As long as you can get linux to work on the box installing octoprint and other linux stuff should be pretty easy.

using orange pi zero more than 5 years, soldered extra usb port, works with no problem.

Personally, I would prefer if my new Tronxy x5sa would just work like my original Ender 3. I wanted a bigger build volume than my old Ender and the Tronxy was on sale for half price. I figured I could just drop in a better control board and things would be good. The more videos I watch, the more complicated it seems. I'm good with hardware and building stuff, but programing and writing code is not something I'm good at. My Ender is connected to a mini pc stick with a 32 bit version of Cura on it. It just works and I get rock solid prints. Tronxy is still in the box because I'm not sure if I can get it to work as good as an Ender 3.

I would recommend orange pi zero 2, the armbian doesn't work well, but the official Debian works great. about $30. Only 1 USB. Running for 2 months without issue.

      Hi!, How's your setup today?
At first I have the OrangePi PC with wifi dongle but the wifi always disconnects, For now, Im not sure if the problem is the Wifi or the board itself.
I want to use my OPI Zero 2 for my ender 3 and Im always printing 1-2 days continuously.

I am currently looking for a Raspberry alternative in order to run Octoprint and Lightburn on it. The Orange Pi Zero 2 is looking interesting, but then again, I want to use a camera along with it. So, may I ask what you would suggest? Maybe the old phone, since I still have an old Galaxy 6? The low power consumption would definitely be a pro, I think.

Orange Pi Zero 2 can use usb camera, phone should be ok too.

@@KaminarisTech Hey, that was fast, thanks! I guess I will give the old phone a try, if this does not work, at least no money was wasted.

Thanks for the info. If you use a Mac-mini or PC, without expansion slots, what options are available so you can add GPIO ports? If you have an enclosure and want to control lights, temp, fans, etc. with the thin client or Mac-mini, are there breakout or USB expansion boxes you know of?

    • @KaminarisTech

Cheapest option is probably something like stm32 bluepill, klipper can be installed on it and connected via usb

@@KaminarisTech Thank you. So, are you saying not to use the Mac-Mini and just use the STM32? Or Mac-Mini to STM32, and in turn I have my GPIO ports to run relays, fans, lights, etc. New territory for me, so I am not necessarily looking at cheap or quick, but options and to be able to accommodate various scenarios. Thanks for any additional help or pointers.

@@3Dgifts im saying that base PC does not matter, mac mini is PC as well, if you are able to run debian on it (i am not sure if its possible) then it will work. In case of a klipper you can connect secondary MCU which in this case would be stm32 bluepill, and control the pins from the brain (PC). For more detailed instructions i suggest joining klipper discord. I know it works because i tried it once and it works sort of like mesh computing.
