    Omg i love everything about this build. I have a folding bike that is very similar to this little bike & i really want to vuild mine out like this now

      Awesome thanks! The 20" wheels are an absolute blast with the mid-drive, so responsive but has a tendency to do wheelies! If you do the build please let me know how it goes!

    why does that look like so much fun! would love to see a build tutorial on one of these.

      Definitely, I worked on one but had to make into 10 parts...if I can get one under 10 minutes that would be sweet. Blows the doors off most folding bikes you can buy. Cheers

    I have a downtube folding bike with the internal gears, nexus. Glad to see how it would look and understand the added performance. Tempting to go with the conversion, same setup.

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  10 месяцев назад

      Folding bikes are great conversions, the small wheels give you super responsive performance but watch the wheelies. I really like the idea of internal hubs on mid-drives, I had an Alfine 11speed that was destroyed by one though. So some internal hubs will hold up better than others, Good luck it you try the conversion!

      @@ElectronSurfer Thanks, Out of interest, why a 52V battery and not 48v?
      Whats the difference? Does 4v make a massive difference?

    Did you consider Bafang Bbs02 instead. Would still be plenty fast and some what lighter.
    Another option would be TSDZ2 which is less power, but is torque sensor. The Open Source Firmware is very cool.
    I would also look at a small battery under the seat Luna Mighty Mini and then a 2nd battery for longer rides. Usually my rides are 20 miles or less and I only need a larger battery occasionally.
    Speed is not everything it is nice to go lighter especially for a folding bike.

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  2 года назад

      I agree with you but I built this for a friend who made the battery and motor decisions. I had a mighty mini that died after 6 months, Luna wouldn't do anything about it. I wasn't a huge fan of the TSDZ2, but may try a 750, there wasn't a firmware option for that one when I reviewed the 500 watt. Thanks for the comment.

      @@ElectronSurfer EcoCycles have some interesting options on TSDZ2 with Open Source installed.
      I understand why you shy away from Luna’s mighty mini. I think other have a similar small battery.

    Doesn't the weight of the battery put a lot of stress on the folding joint ?

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  8 месяцев назад

      No because the folding joint hinges sideways and is super solid when riding. I do take the battery off when folded, even though it will fold with it on, as that is when the mechanism is more vulnerable to stress.

    Ngl, I’m tempted to do this to my Judd with a 500w. Why?
    Well, my Soltera got me into the torque sensor, but I want one that folds. This seems like a good solution

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  2 месяца назад

      The Bafangs are cadence sensors, The TongSheng TSDZ2 is a torque sensor but not my favorite. There is a new ToSeven drives seem like a great option but I have not tried one yet. Cheers

    Great job on the bike and I’m in the middle of converting a Giant Expressway with Bafang 750w. I bought the bracket you used from Amazon and waiting for it. What size are those nuts for spacing and size bolts you used to secure bracket ? Did you also install the gear shift sensor? Thanks…

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад

      The friend I did the build for had those nuts using the original water bottle bosses, I added this to make it more secure. Unfortunately I don't have it to measure the bolts, they were just acting as a shim though. The bolts themselves were whatever the bike has there, usually M4 or M5. I didn't do the gear sensor, I find them problematic and prefer using the brake cut-offs by just tapping the brake and momentarily killing power to the motor. I hope that helps, thanks!

    Nice job, can the bike still foldable?

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  2 года назад +2

      100% yes, I should have shown that. I'd only convert a folding bike if it could still fold, if not there are better frame choices. Thanks!

    I am looking to do this with a zizzo forte but when im a complete rookie, when i shop for bafang they give me too many options and i dont know what to pick i really need help.if you do see this good sir thanks for the awsome video!

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад +2

      I understand that, all you really need to know is the bottom bracket shell width, I did some research for you and it is 68mm. So from that point all of the bafang options are your preferences, display, battery, etc. I tend to like the hydraulic brake cut offs vs the cheap lever style but again that is preference. You can run the bafangs without any brake cutoffs. I hope this helps!

    Do you also have a recommendation for a compact 48v battery for shorter rides?

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад

      I was using a 48v10ah option but it was giving me problems so I unlisted the video, you can still watch it here though. ruclips.net/video/S38PR_0FNgU/видео.html. What I am finding is the smaller batteries experience more wear as their overall capacity is lower, so I really think 48v/14ah is a sweet spot. You could connect multiple 10ah batteries to have a short and long ride option.

    Does this manage to fold with the mid drive or the battery? Do you have to remove the battery?

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад +2

      This one is able to fold with both in place because of the hinge style. I did have to play with the position of the battery cradle to stay out of the way. I have had zero issues with the motor affecting folding. I do remove the battery to reduce weight. Cheers

  • @wudok777

    How much did this cost to do? Interested in trying to do this myself as well. Also, what battery did you use? The link in your description doesn't seem to work anymore. Would you use the same battery if you had to do it again?

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад

      You can typically find these motor kits for $500-600, the battery is the variable. On this one I bought the motor and he bought the battery, it was a 48v-17.5ah and I think it was $350. I typically charge $200-300 for a full install but most people can do it with basic tools and some time. I think the 48v 13or 14 ah batteries are the real sweet spot between weight and range, I also suggest paying extra for high quality battery cells, LG or Samsung are my favorites. Cheers

  • @Idahomie

    So what are the "minor glitches" you encountered with this installation the "devil is in the details".

    • @ElectronSurfer
      @ElectronSurfer  Год назад

      I don't know that I'd say "glitches" but sometimes battery attachment can get tricky and it does with folding conversions. Also with folding bikes you often have more cable to "hide" somewhere because of the bike dimensions. Aside from that getting the old bottom bracket off is the most difficult part of the process! I hope that helps
