I do karate and I love watching all the different types of kata
Thanks for the update ! No doubt that kiyou Shimizu is going to raise hell to get the title on her own land, the victory would be memorable.
Estou contando as horas! Thanks from Brazilian Amazon region, oss!

Sem representante do Brasil, go Kiyou Shimizu!
Wow amazing Karate 😍
I want to be a mashoratist(INSHALLAH)
Hirokazu Kanazawa once said that competition karate should be separated from traditional karate where fighting and killing are taught to survive. Because it was in danger of not evolving, and only becoming a visual spectacle. An example of those words is especially Sandra Sanchez, although she is classified as one the best karateka, she has never shown a fighting spirit, she has always seemed like a choreographer (which in a kata competition, is what the judges focus on the most to classify and win the competition). Unlike Jasmine Juettner from German, she does show fighting spirit, it is just observing her aggressive movements. Those kinds of things make people look for paths like MMA Not because MMA are bad, but the people who teach it lack discipline or philosophy, and only focus on giving down fighters without techniques that they can't really teach.
I'm a BJJ guy but I can't remember how many times I said Oss while watching this video. The katas look so cool!!
I’d stick to your BJJ it’s a better fig g system for reality then this aesthetic presentation. Real karate is brutally vicious , unforgiving and quickly over with one strike . No flowery posing or seduction of the eye . It’s designed to attract the youth to competition, but what happens afterwards . What else are you being taught at the same time ?? What have you done to test your system for real ?? It’s a turd wrapped up in pretty paper and a bow around it .!! I used to compete in my youth and in both kata and Kumite in both nationals and international level . It was far more direct aggressive and to be honest a higher skill level and ferocious . No excessive bouncing around and flicking everything . Even the attitude was better . No falling over the steal a gold medal .!!!!
The olympics was a showcase of a certain type of representation of modern Japanese karate . Even Okinawa has become Japanese orientated in its outlook . Very few traditional untampered systems remain . Karate has been a ever changing system , but what it is now is for the young and what concerns me is it’s loosing its sense of reality . I hope realistic bunkai is applied to kata and not the glorified ballet and unrealistic nonsense I’ve seen in the WKF .
@@markwalker4142 yeah man, I'm just admiring the beauty of Kata. Right now the only martial art that I have the time to train is only BJJ, I used to train Muay Thai as well to add for my stand up game.
@@comiturhan excellent . I’m a big fan of Liam Harrison . He’s an extremely talented martial artist and has some lovely evasive work and leg sweeps and pull downs to his fight game . I admire physical preparation , being able to take a knock and still remaining resilient . My base system is Shotokan . I was lucky I trained with people who pushed me extremely hard and with the very best Shotokan had to offer . I’m now about to explore other fighting systems more closely such and boxing and Gracie Barra BJJ . I’m 56 and still train albeit a hip issue I’m about to rectify with resurfacing surgery . I don’t like modern WKF karate for one reason and one reason alone . If you cannot apply it for real when it matters it a glorified chalice with nothing in it . The Kumite is not realistic and although some of the top fighters may do well in full contact , they have a significant weakness , what they do is to open to exploitation by people with better fight intelligence . I’ll leave it at that .
@@markwalker4142 Liam Harrison is great indeed! I'm a fan of JWP, Nieky Holzkien, and some MT fighters such as Lerdsilla and Saenchai (who doesn't, lol). I myself am a 37 y.o. two-striped blue belt in BJJ, I was on my way of getting promoted to purple before the pandemic happened :'( tbh I'm still less knowledgeable about WKF rules (started watching a bit of Karate because of the Olympic) and will have to check with Karate Combat as well. :D
@@comiturhan all top quality real deal fighters
It looks like each country has their own flair to the movements. I'm sure if I watch these videos long enough I could tell which country is which based on that. Pretty cool!
Hi, it is not by the country...karate has different styles. It's by styles and , of course, by the Kata choosen. Ie, shotokan style= straight moves. Goju ryu= more circle moves...And so on. Oss! Hai !
Interesting that Kiyou Shimizu and Sandra Sanchez were listed as 2 and 1 respectively, since that’s the order they placed in the end 🥈🥇
Que pro
i was hoping to see Rika Usami, i guess she retired?? she was the Queen of Kata... if she competed here she would have won the gold hands down.
Same here
Yeah, retired in 2013. I think she's coaching national team now.
Salam dari indonesia
Predictions:
Kiyou Shimizu - Gold
Sandra Sanchez - Silver
Vivian Bottaro or Grace Lau - Bronze
I like Sakura Kokumai and would like to see an American take the gold, but I don't see it happening. I don't think she's ever beaten Bottaro or Lau in competition and has definitely never beaten Shimizu or Sanchez.
Close :D
Wow, Shito Ryu dominates most of the katas.
According to Google, the final of the women's kata is tonight at 8pm - presumably that's Tokyo time which is only 30 minutes away from my home in the Top End. Thus far, I dont think Australian FTA TV has televised anything that doesnt have an Australian in the final but I'm sure I'll see the highlights eventually.

@@OSHTVChannel Thanks, but it would seem that these two met in the final and it's all over. C'est la vie.

so, is it only shotokan kata competitions?
No, there are three other styles included.
the New Zealand athlete's name is Andrea ...
Nota dez
the kata in international competition is so much different than how it's learned in a dojo.
in a dojo it's much simpler, better control, better techniques, but in competition, it's a lot flashier, sharper and somehow less defined.
I only recognised part of one kata at 6:13 the end part of Kanku Dai (bloody long kata), and even that's differently executed to how I learned it (Shotokan).
I once learned there's no right or wrong with learning karate (one person's way versus another's is essentially no different), just the method taken to get there might differ.
Ga ada yg maen kata shotokan apa yak
not the Tokyo Olympic film! you just put the old file!
Ditanyangin di TV g?
bisa nonton live dimana sense?bagi linky 😅 at

Do they fight?
No, this is KATA
Sad that this is the only time karate will be in the Olympics. How it isn’t in there permanently is beyond me.
I’m glad it won’t be especially in this format . It’s been corrupted beyond measure and lost its venom to placate the ioc . The WKF have compromised to facilitate access to the olympics to the point that it’s now just athletics in a GI . Karate in my belief is far more then that and far more exciting when allowed to be itself without interference . The aim was to spread karate for financial reasons and use the olympics as a platform . It’s about money , power and dominance by certain groups in karate . Meanwhile those who want to and wii know the real essence and budo of it won’t get involved . Olympic karate is a shadow of the real art .
@@markwalker4142 As is leg waving....or taekwondo as it used to be known.
@@markwalker4142 The format is not just for Olympics. The same format is followed JKA tournaments and other karate federation tournaments. This was only the kata competition There us also the "kumite" competition. Of course karate in it's original form in Okinawa was much more than this. But this is the same with any art that is adopted for sport. It gets greatly diluted.
@@khaderalikhan3029 to some degree I agree with you but the ippon fighting system was far better and more dynamic and far more skilled . Once you began to make it a 3 ippon fight it lost its skill in my view . Non of today’s Kumite competition fighters could have competed with the likes of Kagawa , Brennan , Hall , Trimble , Naka or Kokubun in their prime . They simply are not good enough . Karate has lost it be in and become a bouncing game of tag . Yes it’s athletic but it’s become a karate clone of Olympic Taekwondo. Even people in Taekwondo detest the Olympic version compared to what they know is true Taekwondo. For me the Taekwondo and karate in this olympics has been dreadful and in no way represents the real quality out there elsewhere in the karate world . The WKF is not the only association or has the only pool of karateka to show the world . The JKA , WKF and other large associations have zero to do with the WKF .
didominasi shito ryu
This is not karate shotokan , right?
They mainly do Shito Ryu because it looks more "elegant" and "nice to look at". In WKF kata tournaments you can compete with Shotokan but if your opponent does a Shito Ryu kata, he/she is more likely to win
@@sofiapilotto4724 so it's like this , thank I appreciate your help 🥰
Rika Usami gak ikut?
Ikut jadi Technical Director
:"( , then Sandra wins
@@ricardomv6274 LOL. Not in Japan she ain't. Maybe in Spain like in 2018, but not in Shimizu's home country.
Scary women ...
If these women were the targets that bad men tried to attack in an unsafe area ...
Where is Giana Lotfi? 🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬 She is wearing hijab!!!

Taekwondo remains but karate has been removed from the 2024 Paris Olympics
Raise hand ✋who love India 🇮🇳
Love martial arts
Kalo saya tidak terlewat. Tak ada satupun dari Shotokan ya..?
Hmm menarik utk dibahas
Just Shito and Goju... No Shotokan.
Yeh what happened to Shotokan?
And no Kyokushinkai :(
@@SpitefulGoblin Cause that ain't one of the 4 main style recognized by WKF.
@@GoldChanel1 None qualified, that's it, plain and simple. The top 5 WKF competitors qualified by a point system up to a certain date. Jasmin Juettner of Germany is the only shotokan stylist (that I know of) ranked in the top 10 at number 8.
Might as well allow dance in the Olympics...since kata is basically repeatable moves/steps. Pointless.
ITALY WON!
This is so dumb.
Let’s get this straight . Having been involved in karate for over 40 years and having been a front line police officer in some of the most hostile places in the the north of England and the midlands, I think I have enough real life experience to compare this to budo and what it actual transpired to be in real life . This is an athletic performance to seduce the eyes . It is not a realistic interpretation of applied karate . Sharp , precise and technically lovely to see. If I had a first rate ballet dance and taught them for a year to do one kata , I’m confident they’d be able to compete well in this format . On the street they be slaughtered. The kata of Diaz and the kata of Yahara are very very different animals . One wants to get medals , the other wants to rip your heart out and eat it . That’s the difference .
Mark, you're spot on - all poses, no power or martial spirit, and barely bead of sweat.
Spot on, thank you 🥋
It's air fighting.
Why not a real fighting contests?
Too much like the fighting actor named Bruce Lee.
