I feel like the Q is fantastic. Probably the smartest product leica has come out with. For me, and I imagine many others… it was the jumpoff into the world of Leica… once you get a Q and love it… it’s almost impossible not to want to try everything else Leica. I no longer own my Q but I’ve got an m10 and m6 with 2 Leica lenses now and I would have never had been a Leica fan if not for the Q. Hope to own a q2 one day.

Just bought a used SL (601) for 1700€, couldn't me more happy with its performance in 2023 compared to other more modern cameras such as the Sony A7IV that I owned for a few months.

Please could you elaborate on this? I currently own a Leica M2 and a few M mount lenses and I absolutely fell in love with the whole Leica ecosystem. I used to be a film purist until I bought a Ricoh gr3 and it completely changed my mind on what digital can be. And I know that the gr3 soesnt even come close to Leica quality glass and sensors but I always wondered whether investing in a Leica body was worth the money vs getting any other mirrorless.

No camera brand or any Leica model has ever eclipsed the RAW files from the SL 601, it simply produces the best images of any digital camera to date.

The discussion of the M Type 246 starts at about 1:25:20, for those who may be wanting to go right to it. The 246 does, indeed, still hold its own, quite well, to quite high ISO settings. I bought my first M 246 after already having an M10. Pre-owned M246 camera held their value amazingly well, for quite some time, then gradually depreciated, until early 2022, when the prices actually being paid, for well-preserved samples, started a decline to a plateau near $4K US. Now seems to be a good time to buy an M246.

One great reason to hold on to an old favorite is when your current favorite has to take a trip to Germany for repair or CLA. My M10 had a sensor malfunction that required a replacement. It has been gone now for two months but I still have my M9 to keep me company while I'm waiting...so...don't be in a rush to sell off your old favorite...it may become your ONLY favorite for a while!

The Q was my first Leica camera. I was starting to do professional work and nneded an inconspicuous camera but of the highest quality. I now use two Ms and an S (paired with a GFX), but the Q is my personal camera. It’s reliable, has perfect files, and the only bother is some distorsion of lines that can be easily corrected in post.

The supply of pre-owned M 246 Monochrom cameras may seem dry, because some of us have recently bought a second/spare 246. Life is good.

The Monochrom Type 246 is my first Leica and my favorite Leica to use. It is not only a superb monochrome camera but it has something not found on the other newer M Monochrom cameras; it has video. Not that it is a must have for me but I have used it to make short vintage looking clips and it is quite nice. I love this camera for portraiture and for photographing vintage automobiles.

Various photography websites reported a month ago that the entire CL/TL line was discontinued, complete with quotes from Leica Camera AG. Unless the quotes are fabricated, then Leica has indeed officially stated that they have moved on from APS-C.

Great episode guys. Really enjoyed this retrospective of digital Leicas. I own the SL(601) and CL and love them both. You are right Josh (of course), the original SL is by far the most significant current value. Not mentioned, but the launch price of the SL(601) was an astounding $7450 USD. It was the flagship Leica in 2015 with the most advanced feature set. That makes me feel pretty smart for buying one for $2K ;-) Do you think they will ever introduce an SL2 Monochrom?

I went to your store last year looking to possibly switch from my TL2 to the CL, mainly because of the poor flash photography capabilities of the TL2. Prefered the ergonomics on the TL2 and although the CL offered much improved flash features, there were still some flaws. Then I was shown the SL2 and order a used SL from you a week or so later. Since then, I sold all my Fuji and Olympus gear and the SL is now my primary camera. I picked up several R lenses along the way and they work great on the type 601. The TL2 serves as a compact, take everywhere alternative.

Hi hi guys! The S top 007 is still my favorite camera! Second to it is the M10-R/M10-M. My only big issue with the S series is the leatherette tends to buckle. Is there a fix for this, without sending it to Wetzlar for an extended visit?

Not shure where to ask this question, but i would like to know, how you can record videos, with the SL2, for long time?
I tried to mount a USB-PD external battery, but it is not charging while recording, so i'm asking how you do to record for hours, without changing batteries?

I'd love to have various Q3 versions with Tri-Elmar, 28-35-50 even if it is just an F4, and another with the Summilux 28mm or even various lens choices / customizable. Will be perfect for street for example! Would love the SL3 to have phase-detect too! Quieter shutter for the M11P! Nonetheless, I can never let go of M film bodies. They are just going to outlive us all until the very last serviceman passes. 🥲

Although I had given away my T a few years ago after getting the Q-P for obvious reasons, I recently bought a brand new TL2 for my 18 mm and 60 mm Macro lenses. It is such a cool-looking camera for my casual shooting outdoors. I don’t think there will be another camera made like this one in the future. Sad to see the rather short life history of the TL line. Hope Leica will make room for its fine employees who had designed and polished this beautifully-made product.

Talking 25 minutes about the Q even all the body color versions and didn't mention that the lens has a LEAF SHUTTER, shame on you guys.
And yes, I use that benefit a lot in combination with flash !

Who is still using or going to buy S007 in 2022?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  2 года назад

We know quite a few photographers doing great work with the S007 in 2022. With almost 15.5 stops of DR, gorgeous color science and fantastic lenses, the S007 is still a top performer. The body is built like a tank, with full weather sealing, the battery lasts for over 1000 shots, and the optical viewfinder is the biggest, brightest and sharpest ever in a DSLR. Still one of our all-time favorite cameras!
