The Germans are not so big on meat....anymore. The Germans and especially the Bavarians have been traditionally very big on meat! It is the younger more health and envirement concious generation that changes this trend.
Unless u reguarly eat a shit ton of red meat like lots of beef or pork, meat esp. white meat or fish is in absolutely no competition at all with a healthy diet, it's the other way around actually.
Hello 👋 I'm an American living in Germany for 7 years with my German hubby. We do like it here, but we miss living in southeast Asia. Warm friendly people & weather.
You’re like me when it comes to beer - not liking beer but enjoying Radler once in a while. I never lived in Bavaria but come from Stuttgart and now live in Berlin
You've got a truly lovely voice which makes it a real pleasure to listen to. However, besides the pure pleasure of listening, the best part of your video is your content. I just sent the link to my (German) cousin who happened to marry a South-African a short while back who now just moved to Germany. The chap is still struggling a bit with the adaptation process and I guess, he'll find the insights of a countrywoman helpful.
Glad to hear you like being in Germany and are enjoying your life 😊 Thank you for your perspective, it's always interesting to hear about our life and culture from someo6who didn't grow up here.
You are so right about the Sunday thing, I didn't understand it in the beginning because everything is open in SA on a Sunday but now I love it. Germany has taught me to appreciate and value the little things in life. I like how open minded and positive you are, it makes adapting to a new country a lot easier. Stay safe and healthy.
Hi, usually I don't watch RUclipss like yours, but music tubes mainly. I just stumbled about the title of your tube and it made a bit curious what you will have to say, because my wifi is also an African woman, from Central Africa though. First of all I appreciate your way of presenting your experiences in your environment and it made me smile that you obviously landed very well in a round people that makes your life happy. Not everyone from Africa has this luck too but you appreciates everything around your new way of living your life which made me write this comment right now. The make of your video is very nice, the way you talk so fluently and honest with a very clear pronounciation is a refreshing delightment. Just wanted to tell in other words: Welcome, and happy that you share your experiences from your point of view 👍
Schön, dass Du hier bist und Dich wohlfühlst :-) I just love your attitude and positivity! And yes, I just became a subscriber, looking forward to watching lots of more videos to come in the future....
I was always annoyed that we can't go shopping 24/7 and on Sundays, but I've come to appreciate that nowadays. It's not necessary tbh. 6 days a week is enough. =)
Just found your video. No matter how long you have been here, welcome to Germany. I wish you and your husband the best for your future. Together we'll get through this pandemic and return to normal life.
"Dogs in Germany are so well trained" - Me: crying out of despair... Nahhh, just kidding. Though our dog sometimes drove me crazy for when she has picked up a scent she has liked to pretent she doesn't understand German commands anymore. If you considering having a dog I suggest you go to an animal shelter and take a dog for a walk to give it a try. But be aware, a dog is like a family member, kind like a small kid. Everything has to be arranged around him/her. Take care stay safe!
Many thanks for sharing these views Tebogo. I really enjoyed your video and can relate and agree to all the points you make. I am also a South African who moved over to Germany a few years ago. Some experiences are not so obvious and take time to learn, realise and appreciate.
Really enjoyed your video. Yes minding your own business really frees one up to concentrate on your own happiness. I love to see fellow South African people prosper. Enjoy your day.
Your presentation of various value differences between SA and Germany is spot on. In fact the value system between english speaking countries and Germany is just like you describe. Having Sunday as a rest day and not just chase after money is good for the heart. Being able to enjoy nature and not having to worry to be assaulted is huge. Not looking down on someone who does manual labour instead of white color unemployed is good for society and makes everybody feel valued. Are far as dogs are concerned. Generally dogs owned in southern Africa by one group of people are normally well behaved but extremely racist, and the ones owned by the other group of people are generally treated as muts and roam the streets for foot and quick multipliers.
Super interesting! As for “dogs owned by one group of people are normally well behaved but extremely racist” now that’s South Africa 🙆🏿♀️ a sad reality. Something I didn’t want to mention in the video because it’s just one of those topics that offends a lot of people. I like your honesty, thanks for watching.
Thanks for being so open and honest about your views on Germany and the Germans.... your very sweet. Although I am not sure all of your experiences are typical it's still very entertaining to listen and learn about cultural differences!
what you describe is basically the difference between living in an unsafe environment and a safe one. Germans don't need dogs to protect them , they don't fear public transport, and usually have functional families. SA is such a beautiful country, I sincerely hope public security there can improve
when I see such a video, I first learn to appreciate our peace and prosperity, and that it is not normal that you can go anywhere with your family in any country at any time. Greetings from Munic ❤️
Liebe Tebza, schön dich kennenzulernen. Ich bin auch Südafrikanisch und lebe hier seit 2018. Ich weiß genau was du meinst. Ich lebe in Hessen und arbeite in Bayern. Schön, dass es dich gibt...ganz in der Nähe. O bua nnete ngwaneso. All true🥰
This video has just changed my world! ✨✨✨ The minding ones own business is such a vibe 👌🏾💃🏾 The judgemental attitude is just sooooo frustrating. I am glad to have found you spoke about this (with examples) because people in my country are also like South Africans.
Just based on your first point I would assume that you live in the city (where most people live in apartments) . I live in Germany too but on the country side. In villages people also use dogs for security purposes and have signs on their gates 'be aware of dogs' especially when they have yards.
I love that photograph of you on the bridge at the "Englischer Garten". I actually live near Munich Airport - and due to the rural character there are still many watchdogs ... but other dogs also. And it's really all kinds and races. Your video makes me miss Munich a lot but I dare not going there at this point of the pandemic.
Former East Germans have a more negative relationship with dogs as they are associated with the Communist state police patrols. For instance, Angela Merkel is known to be afraid of them - she grew up there.
Tor liver Wilhelmsen ,where did you get this nonsense from? I am East German, 52 years old. Just like in West Germany, the police and rescue units in the GDR had dog squadrons. Dogs would be used at the border, and so would the secret state police ... As a normal citizen, however, you rarely came into contact with it. We too kept dogs as pets and loyal friends. According to the cliché, my grandma had a dachshund named Lumpi and two German shepherd dogs named Heik and Hasso. ;)
@@TorIverWilhelmsen , Yes, of course you can talk yourself out of it if you are afraid of dogs. ;) I don't think that's a special east / west thing. I am sure there are many people in the West who are afraid of dogs. I think it's because of whether you are afraid of dogs, whether you grew up with dogs from an early age or not. As I said, one was relatively seldom embarrassed to meet these specially trained dogs in the GDR. I can tell you an anecdote about the only time I made the acquaintance of such a police dog at the age of 16 and a couple of friends of the same age. We were standing in a group of about 30 young people ... and yes we were pretty loud too. Two policemen with a police dog wanted to expel us. With the dog it should look powerful and authoritarian ... I don't know. One of our group went up to the dog and talked to him: "What a good dog", "Such a dear one" and so on ... not long and the dog lay on his back and showed his belly to be stroked. They blushed with shame and then walked away. ;D I still laugh when I think about it today...... Ok, I admit that not all GDR citizens have met such a nice police dog, but for an order to bite you had to have done more than disturbing the nightly peace with a few friends. But wasn't that also the case in the West?
-My first thought when you said "When you see a dog you run away because they are going to chase you" was: Yeah, they will chase you BECAUSE you run away xD -I am so thankfull that you spell it out that you are in Bavaria and refering to Bavaria and that you do not just call it "German" as so many youtubers do, thank you for that. -On the Beer thing, Radler (Or Alster as we call it in other parts of germany) is not named a "Beer" because it is a mixed drink. A "Bier Mischgetränk" there are very strikt rules on what can be named Beer. -"The germans are not so big on meat" Excuse me, what? Germany is on No. 7 of the biggest meat consuming nations. It is set at about 88 kg of meat per head per year. Also, we have a huge meat eating culture, just remember Schweinshaxen, Bratwurst, Schnitzel... - Very nice that you enjoy one of the few real german traditions of Kaffe und Kuchen^^
Valid points - I get you but some dogs just enjoy chasing people. - Thanks for the clarification, I’ll stop calling Radler beer. - a lot of people agree that healthy eating is a trend among millennials in Germany.
You really sad some great words towards the end. And I think it's your open mind and super positivity that you have mostly good experiences here, like a mirror, be good and it comes back to you! Welcome here in Germany, I'm little jealous of your husband, if I'm allowed to say that ;=)
What a gorgeous lady you are!!! I needed your video. My husband is from a different culture. I have heard negative comments (even from one of my family members) about us because we are interracial couple. After watching your video, I really want to move to Germany. Thanks for sharing your experiences!!!
RUclips recommended this video to me after I watched James Bray. He's a black american interested in our country, maybe you know his videos. He's a great guy. We can use more black people in our country, makes it more colorful. Glad to hear you're enjoying your time here in Germany. Subscribed to your channel.
From watching these videos, I can tell that you have changed for the better honestly, I'm so happy for you and proud of the woman you are continuously becoming. OMG I still envy your spirituality, one day I'll get there. 💕💕💕
Dogs can be taught for many things, dogs can be good friends, there are police dogs, shepherds for sheep against animals or thieves, children guard, Door bell. Some women or girls when they go for a long walk through a forest or what ever, have a big dog, woe to the man if he tries to attack that woman.
Welcome Tebogo Thank you so much for all what you said. Sometimes we Germans are too spoiled and need people like you to appreciate better what we have. Germany is a great place to live - and Bavaria / Munich is definitely one of the best. Although Germany is compared to ZA or US a relatively small country it is not homogeneous. Traditions, food, behaviour of people, wealth, landscape, weather, architecture, language/dialect, sense of humor, nature, business live etc. differ quite a lot in the different areas. As soon corona is over you should travel around. There are so many wonderful places to visit - in all Bundesländern. Servus und mach’s gut.
I have to correct you: you said you're now drinking alcohol, and then mentioned you liked Radler. In Germany, Radler is not considered alcohol, there's even a really famous song here in Germany about this.
Wearing a Dirndl at the Oktoberfest drinking a beer... I had a talk with my fellow bavarians and they apointed me to tell you you are officially bavarian now. Welcome!
"We run away because the dog will chase us" Well, a dog will definitely chase you *if* you run away :D That's just their nature. We have a friend-like relation to dogs (and cats) so for many Germans they belong to the family. And because the dogs are mostly being loved and well treated, they give love back and don't feel like they have to protect themselves with biting or something. Maybe that whole different relation is the reason for that difference.
So when they bite, they are protecting themselves? These ones in S. Africa literally chase you. Aaah I am really scared of dogs, that's why I don't jog🤣🤣. Great video learnt a lot of interesting things about German. All I knew was they very strict and love aircon.
12:04 oh ye i had a wrong job and i just switched, in a age of 26, from a industry job into study software engineering in university :D so i will be 30 finishing study
@@tebogop8818 thank you very mutch :) its a little bit pressure but its a whole other thing to have pressure in something you love to do. So its more "brearable". And all the best to you too.
Ha i knew it before u say Radler :) when i was in Sofia Bulgaria i show the guys in the bar what a radler is and then the girls starting drinking beer in this bar :)
In Spain we call beer with fizzy lemonade "rubia" (blonde) or shandy (which is actually a brand). It's a very popular summer drink. Thanks, because now I know how to ask for it in Germany! :-)
Glad to have found you by coincidence. I just love your positive attitude which many Germans do not have. I lived in different countries and always had an open mind and positive approach. Welcome to our country. Please do travel when the situation permits. There is a lot to see and experience.
It is alittle bit funny your experience with dogs. I´ve 2 little dogs and they very well behaved. You can also hear very often, especially from dog owners, who say, "The better human beings are the animals." Btw for Bavarian beer isn´t alcohol it is a elixir of life. I wish you and your husband all the best and a great time in Germany. In the 80s I went twice to Captown and worked for a Swiss company. Unfortunately the police put me three times always for 1 day in jail because I didn´t follow the rules of the apartheid politics. The reason was that I always wanted to ride in the bus of the black population because for me there is no difference in the treatment of white or black people. It was a great experience for me and and the authorities could not change my attitude. South Africa is a phantastic country and I met alot of very kind and nice people.
This comment was such a delightful read, thank you for your kind and humble words. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in my beautiful South Africa and I like your perspective on race. Keep up with your positive attitude 😊
You're such a gorgeous person, inside and out. The type of person I would love to someday have Kaffee und Kuchen with and talk about Gott und die Welt. For the time being, I am having fika, which is the same thing in Sweden. After 5 years in Sweden I really miss my home country Germany, which I never thought I would. My home town is just outside Munich (hi neighbor) and I lived in the city for a few years as well and I miss the diverse culture there. And I love hearing all the different accounts of people from other countries that came to live in Germany. Your viewpoints are so valuable, one can learn about one's own country by looking through other people's eyes. Same goes for living abroad and looking back to the old home. Learning it's a privilege to be able to live in Germany. I will come back, first chance I get, I've had enough snow for now. 😀
Well... We here in Germany should be proud and frankly HONORED to have people like you madam coming over and work and live among us ... „Schön das Sie da sind“ ... (nice to have you) ... 🥳👍 ... Radler is NOT a proper beer 🍺... a Alster is 😝
@@tebogop8818 Well... Since your channel is international... let’s stay with English ... Drinking Radler/Alster ... while living in Bavaria is HERECY ... 🥳👍😜
You are right, the younger generations live a more healthy lifestyle even when we have here not less people with adipositas. Probably it's kind of the opposite in SA but I haven't beern there yet. In Europe, the Germans have not so close relationships like many other nations (Italy, Spain, ..). You see it when the children move out early in their own flats and in other countries the "children" live there till 40 years or even longer. Of course there are more reasons for this (renting vs buying, high prices, income etc.).
@@tebogop8818 I visited meanwhile last year for a month. It was awesome and the food was often not or just with a bit vegetables (except of fries haha)

The Germans are not so big on meat....anymore. The Germans and especially the Bavarians have been traditionally very big on meat! It is the younger more health and envirement concious generation that changes this trend.
Interesting, thanks for watching.
Hi 👋🏿 I plan to visit southeast Asia soon and I hope I experience their warmth also 😊. Thanks for watching
You’re like me when it comes to beer - not liking beer but enjoying Radler once in a while. I never lived in Bavaria but come from Stuttgart and now live in Berlin
Glad I’m not the only one 😊
Mixed-beer-wise I like a grapefruit flavoured Weizen in summer (refreshing) and a Bananenweizen in winter (high carb, quite stuffing).
Ich wünsche dir eine gute Zeit, tolles Video
Danke!
You are too kind, thank you 😊. I’m also still struggling with the adaptation, it’s really not easy but it gets better with time 💪🏿
@@tebogop8818 I hope so for you! Honestly, It took me years to get used to living in Switzerland... and I come from a similar culture.
Glad to hear you like being in Germany and are enjoying your life 😊
Thank you for your perspective, it's always interesting to hear about our life and culture from someo6who didn't grow up here.
So kind, thanks for watching 😊
You are so right about the Sunday thing, I didn't understand it in the beginning because everything is open in SA on a Sunday but now I love it. Germany has taught me to appreciate and value the little things in life. I like how open minded and positive you are, it makes adapting to a new country a lot easier. Stay safe and healthy.
I’m glad you relate. Thanks for the kind words, stay safe and healthy 🇿🇦🇩🇪🌱!
It's soo nice to have you here.
Feel save, stay healthy!!
Thank you
Hi, usually I don't watch RUclipss like yours, but music tubes mainly.
Just wanted to tell in other words:
Welcome, and happy that you share your experiences from your point of view 👍
Thank you so much for this lovely comment, I really appreciate it & it made me smile 😊!
You really seem like such a lovely and sweet person! Welcome to Germany!
Thank you 😊
If you smile no one can be angry and the world will be heaven
Schön, dass Du hier bist und Dich wohlfühlst :-) I just love your attitude and positivity! And yes, I just became a subscriber, looking forward to watching lots of more videos to come in the future....
Vielen dank und I hope you’ll enjoy future videos.
I was always annoyed that we can't go shopping 24/7 and on Sundays, but I've come to appreciate that nowadays. It's not necessary tbh. 6 days a week is enough. =)
Absolutely 😊
Just found your video. No matter how long you have been here, welcome to Germany.
I wish you and your husband the best for your future. Together we'll get through this pandemic and return to normal life.
So kind, thank you 😊.
😅! Thanks for the advice and friendly warning, animal shelter is a good idea.
Stay safe also 🌸
Your accent is so nice! Thank you for making this. I hope you continue to enjoy your Sundays, we appreciate you.
So kind, thank you.
Many thanks for sharing these views Tebogo. I really enjoyed your video and can relate and agree to all the points you make. I am also a South African who moved over to Germany a few years ago. Some experiences are not so obvious and take time to learn, realise and appreciate.
I’m glad you relate and enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and I hope you are enjoying it here.
I'm happy people are putting the stereotypes aside and visit germany :)
Really enjoyed your video. Yes minding your own business really frees one up to concentrate on your own happiness. I love to see fellow South African people prosper. Enjoy your day.
Thanks for watching 🇿🇦😊
Great video! You pointed out some really interesting differences between Germany and South Africa!
Thank you:)
Thanks for being so open and honest about your views on Germany and the Germans.... your very sweet. Although I am not sure all of your experiences are typical it's still very entertaining to listen and learn about cultural differences!
Interesting, thanks for watching!
Sunday is the day of the LORD, relaxing day for all.
Absolutely 💯
I'm always happy to see foreigners who are enjoying our culture and our country ☺️ but I still want to visit South Africa some day
Schön, I’m always happy when people show interest in my country. It’s amazingly beautiful and you should visit 😊
Just came across your video. It's like a love letter. Thank you!
I’m so grateful for this video and all the positive feedback I get from so many people. Thanks for watching!
what you describe is basically the difference between living in an unsafe environment and a safe one. Germans don't need dogs to protect them , they don't fear public transport, and usually have functional families. SA is such a beautiful country, I sincerely hope public security there can improve
10K views!!!! 900 Subs!! Wow your channel is flying like a rocket. Well done

when I see such a video, I first learn to appreciate our peace and prosperity, and that it is not normal that you can go anywhere with your family in any country at any time. Greetings from Munic ❤️
That’s nice. Greetings from Greece.
This is so true. I believe Germany changed me too. 😍

Thank you so much 🙏🏿🥰
I love your perspective on Germany!
Danke & thanks for watching!
This video has just changed my world! ✨✨✨
The minding ones own business is such a vibe 👌🏾💃🏾
The judgemental attitude is just sooooo frustrating. I am glad to have found you spoke about this (with examples) because people in my country are also like South Africans.
Truly is & I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Where are you from?
Great ! Tebogo wears dirndls. Over time we will turn you into a real Bavarian girl. I am very confident about that. :)
😂 I wore it once to the Oktoberfest. Bavarian girl? Nah I’ll forever be a South African ❤️🇿🇦 in Bavaria, viel besser für mich :)
Just based on your first point I would assume that you live in the city (where most people live in apartments) . I live in Germany too but on the country side. In villages people also use dogs for security purposes and have signs on their gates 'be aware of dogs' especially when they have yards.
Interesting, I’ve been to a few German villages and have never came across that.
Thanks for watching 😊, it’s not so bad with the pandemic though but I get what you mean.
Interesting :-) in former times Dogs here also were used as watchdogs.
Most interesting are your insights of Bavaria :-)
Good to know, thanks for watching 😊
Former East Germans have a more negative relationship with dogs as they are associated with the Communist state police patrols. For instance, Angela Merkel is known to be afraid of them - she grew up there.
Tor liver Wilhelmsen ,where did you get this nonsense from?
I am East German, 52 years old.
Just like in West Germany, the police and rescue units in the GDR had dog squadrons.
Dogs would be used at the border, and so would the secret state police ...
As a normal citizen, however, you rarely came into contact with it.
We too kept dogs as pets and loyal friends.
According to the cliché, my grandma had a dachshund named Lumpi and two German shepherd dogs named Heik and Hasso. ;)
@@andreamuller9009 I have it from statements from my sister-in-law and her parents growing up there.
@@TorIverWilhelmsen ,
Yes, of course you can talk yourself out of it if you are afraid of dogs. ;)
I don't think that's a special east / west thing.
They blushed with shame and then walked away. ;D
I still laugh when I think about it today......
Ok, I admit that not all GDR citizens have met such a nice police dog,
but for an order to bite you had to have done more than disturbing the nightly peace with a few friends.
But wasn't that also the case in the West?
-My first thought when you said "When you see a dog you run away because they are going to chase you" was: Yeah, they will chase you BECAUSE you run away xD
-I am so thankfull that you spell it out that you are in Bavaria and refering to Bavaria and that you do not just call it "German" as so many youtubers do, thank you for that.
Valid points
- I get you but some dogs just enjoy chasing people.
- Thanks for the clarification, I’ll stop calling Radler beer.
- a lot of people agree that healthy eating is a trend among millennials in Germany.
@@tebogop8818 oh, the whole health wave is a trend allright in germany, but we still eat a huge amount of meat and our cuisine is very meat based.
Very interesting to hear this about German. Good positivity to take as SA🇿🇦
You really sad some great words towards the end. And I think it's your open mind and super positivity that you have mostly good experiences here, like a mirror, be good and it comes back to you!
Welcome here in Germany, I'm little jealous of your husband, if I'm allowed to say that ;=)
Profound words, thanks.
What a gorgeous lady you are!!! I needed your video. My husband is from a different culture. I have heard negative comments (even from one of my family members) about us because we are interracial couple. After watching your video, I really want to move to Germany. Get to know a very interesting inside view of German everyday life from a new perspective! Tebago, kan jy ook Afrikaans praat?
Ja ek kan :)
I lived near a brauerie,a winestubbe,, and several gasthouses , one became my favorite sight for supper and watching soccar from the stammtisch later
There's so many ways to do life and be happy still. That's a great message.
Dogs can be taught for many things, dogs can be good friends, there are police dogs, shepherds for sheep against animals or thieves, children guard, Door bell.
Some women or girls when they go for a long walk through a forest or what ever, have a big dog, woe to the man if he tries to attack that woman.
Thank you for sharing Tebogo. I wish to be a globe trotter some day.
Thank for watching! All the best.
Welcome Tebogo
Thank you so much for all what you said.
Thanks for the kind words. Can’t wait to travel again, Germany and Europe offers a lot of beauty worth exploring.
Keep well.
Welcome! Live your best life!
Vielen dank, so kind.
Beer and lemonade is know as a beer shandy here in South Africa.
Welcome!
😅 Danke!
Omg, you are such a beautiful lady! :)
Thank you :)

@@tebogop8818 Hope you are not affected by these horrible fires.
Thank you, you are so kind 🥰! Thanks for watching & all the best in Sweden :)

I’d say it’s slightly more in SA and you should visit 🇿🇦❤️! Well that’s good to know, thanks.
