I’m from a very small village in the Scottish highlands, 5 minutes drive from Eilean Donan - the castle from the Highlander movie. I was 24 and a week into my first year as a student nurse on the 11th of September 2001. What I loved about the western world after that horrific day was the way everyone showed so much love and support for the USA. We wanted to send a message to the disgusting cowards who attacked innocent people that they couldn’t defeat the way of life we had and shared with the USA. I still love the patriotism shown by the majority of Americans to this day. The support you give your veterans and the pride you have when you sing your National Anthem….it makes me love you guys even more.
Bush was extremely personable and easy to like, “A guy you’d like to have a beer with.” His administration was awful and his likeable personality was demonized as being easy to turn into a clueless puppet of people like Cheney and Rumsfeld. Even with all of its current problems and its flawed history; I love the United States, its people, and its ideals. My parents left their home country for a better future, and this country is my home and every American is my fellow countryman. It pains me to see the country so divided across politics, across race, across economics, and a seemingly growing list of divides. I want unity, I want progress towards a more perfect union, I want this country to do better for more people, I want Americans to help other Americans, I want Americans to live lives of freedom. I love this country; not because it's perfect, but because it's my home -- and I long for the day when we can heal and be reunited as Americans.
I too long for this day when we can fly the flag and chant “USA!” And it only be a unifying chant where every American agrees and exclaims with pride in their country. I wish it would get here soon, these are sad times
And here I thought i came here to relive this moment alone as a lonely American praying for unity while only taking solace in baseball; the one thing every American should have in common. You and I may never meet but as one fellow American and baseball fan to another I want you to know that I love you. We may have our differences, but that is what makes us American. God bless you.

Same guy that told President Bush to throw from the mound or get booed, some 16 years later - though then still 13 years younger - throws his own 1st Pitch from the mound. Having lived in NYC for a few years and having seen games @ Yankee Stadium, Jeter likely gave President Bush great advice I'd say, on any ordinary day. But on this evening, on the heels of the September 11 attacks on America, whether the President threw from the mound, or half-way. Whether he threw a strike, bounced it or it went 10 feet wide & over the backstop. It wouldn't have mattered. Yankee fans cared most as we all did. That our President was there that night to re-start this nation despite great doubt & fear, just as the fans in that stadium were. President Bush took Jeter at his word, stood at the top of the mound and delivered a strike for the entire nation, at 55 years of age on the biggest stage ever. After all, he was always a baseball guy. Well done Mr. President.

I was at this game. My sister told me that we needed to arrive at least 2 hours early because of the extra security. I'm glad I listened to her, we got in quickly but the lines formed fast behind us. This was just a great moment.
During the time after 9/11 I remember seeing flags everywhere. Like literally everywhere. The country was definitely United there for a bit. I miss those days. Hell of a pitch by the way. It couldn't be anything other than a strike.
I was never a Yankees fan, but I never wanted to see a team win the WS as much as in 2001. New York City needed it so bad. I cried when they lost to the Diamondbacks.
I'm not an American and not a fan of GWB but I remember watching this when it happened and thought, "That was the most badass Presidential moment in history." That was the biggest middle finger to terrorist and statement about America's resolve that could ever be given.
That was one of the most unforgettable moments. Americans on the same side putting differences aside. This was a moment God showed the world strength & courage. I pray we see that again in some way.
God damnit, it kills me to this day that the Yankees didn't take it home in '01. Would have been the ultimate uniting moment. Even still, the display of sheer unity, strength, and bravery is unlike anything I've ever seen, and I long for the day this country gets back there, whenever that may be. I was only 8 years old but I've seen this video a million times and it gets me every time.
The Yankees should have gotten swept. Seven games makes the 2001 World Series close when the d backs dominated all the games until Kim forgot how to close a game.
It's such a shame that people who can remember 9/11 have forgotten what that moment was like and how the country came together in the aftermath. It was a beautiful thing. Breaks my heart to see where we are today and how much hatred we have for one another.
Not as bad as Obama. 8 years of Obama is the reason we are where we are today. 8 years of democrat control has brainwashed the people to believe if you're patriotic like the people in this video, you're a racist. Don't forget when a Democrat said "everyone was all patriotic just because someone did something on 911?" AND NO other democrats rebuked her. They all stood up for her & called trump a sexist for exposing her. Sad
The time after 9/11 was like nothing this country had ever seen. American flags hung from every house in every neighborhood across the country. That pitch and his stature during that event seems so insignificant but meant so much to us all. We were truly the United States of America.
Never thought I'd ever say this. I'm Canadian. But damn, I miss Dubya. To think. A President who shows up for a city and a country when they needed support and love more than they possibly ever needed. Those were good times.
I was a freshman in college and I was there! The mood that night was absolutely electric it was awesome to get back to baseball after the horrific things that that city in the country had been through..... I always say that I missed game 4 and 5 which were iconic but game three was truly special in its own right...
This is a excerpt from an HBO program called “Nine Innings From Ground Zero”. Was in NYC on 9/11. Can’t recommend that program more highly. Captures sentiment of New York City post 9/1. So very well done
Any American who was over the age of 5 can remember where they were on Sept 11, 2001. Believe it or not, America had all the problems then that we have now, but I suspect we had fewer self serving, impetuous malcontents. For as long as I live I will never forget those who perished on that day, and all who answered a terrible call for help. They showed us what it meant to be an American. God Bless the Republic.

President.

Incredible moment, and that pitch was perfect too. Like it was meant to be.
Still brings chills to me 20 years later
Leadership in a huge time of national need. Salute, Mr. President.
“Didn’t want people to think their president wasn’t incapable”. Boy, here in 2022 that hits home lol.
