I have read somewhere article thats correlete sudden drop in atmospheric pressure with old Polish description of wild hunt - strong wind with sounds of riding horses, people act funny and leaves house and never returns
I always thought the real world Wild Hunt was essentially a warning to not travel out in winter storms as an allegory for extreme weather making people and wild animals all the more dangerous and violent to encounter in the wilds during the cold season, as well as legend of towns that were raided and wiped out over the winter with no one left alive to tell them who did it, when, or why.
Excellent video, would love to see more lore videos on the books! (Less said about the show lmao)
Don’t even reference the show. The show just basically stole the Witcher name and made a completely different world.
Gaunter O'Dimm be like "that's a pretty cute wild hunt you have there"
I immediately thought of the Dresden Files when I saw this videos title. I know it’s only a book series (no, the old Sci-Fi Channel show does not count) but I’d love for you to tackle it. I’ve probably read the whole series 3 times, and there is just so much going on, it’s hard to remember it all.
Nicely detailed, no fluff. Marvellous
The wild hunt is just a giant elven frat party gone too far
In Deep Geek Harry Potter Video.?🙏🙏🙏
@@stevefontaine1335 Please, for the sake of the Old Gods and the New, stop asking that.
😂
Wasn't that the larp video where buddy kills his friend or something
A wild space elven frat party 🎉 I need an invite lol
Author Jim Butcher penned a great Wild Hunt in one of his Dresden Files books!😊
Just casually leading it downtown Chicago on top of a skeleton of a T-Rex. Oh Harry.
Ahh Dead Beat. Awesome book.People of culture we meet again. 🤌
The artwork from Gwent is so fantastic!! So sad that CDPR is shutting that game down 😢
Guy Gavriel Kay also uses the idea of the wild hunt in his Fionovar Tapestry trilogy.
Thank you for this video, Robert!
Havent played the games, but have read the books. I really like the witcher, although im not a huge fan of the netflix version.
The games are incredible… especially the 3rd one. If you like the Witcher world you should really check the games out!
I get all excited because the wild hunt is this fascinating story common to cultures throughout the world and one of the oldest stories in the world. I thought this was going to be about that wild hunt.
I did too. I was preparing myself for Herne the Hunter lore and then I saw that it was In Deep Geek.
What's so fascinating about it?
An interesting comparison would be this wild hunt to the one described in the Dresden Files.
"I just put the Erlking on the bench and laid a beat-down on freaking Santa Claus." -Dresden as he's asserting dominance over The Wild Hunt.....
It makes sense in the story I swear.
I love this. I read the books a few years ago but much of the lore didn't stick in my mind. Your videos are very helpful! Could you please make more? Particularly about the books over of the show.
Gwent, anyone?
your narration skills are insnane. have you done amy audiobooks I could listen to?
This is your lucky day. Robert has an entire podcast called The Well Told Tale where does just that! I highly recommend it. I’m listening to The Trial by Franz Kafka right now and it’s fantastic.
Wish you started on Witcher a long time ago. So much uncovered still.
My guess is in the show they will realize their mistake in deviating from the source material, waste a few episodes backpedaling and still mess it up in the end.
What i find fascinating about The Witcher series is it's like the opposite of say Star Wars or Dune which are sci-fi with fantasy elements, The Witcher is fantasy with some sci-fi thrown in. The Wild Hunt and a lot of the monsters Geralt hunts are aliens from other planets but use magic to travel rather than a spaceship, pretty unique.
I'm loving this channel!
In Sardinian folklore we have them being demonic horse raiders
I did read books years ago while commuting. The part where Ciri ran from Cintra and was breafly captured by Wild hunt (if I remember correctly), then escaping and hopping between worlds, dropping bubonic plague in our world, was sooo epic and… I did not fully understand.
It is very nice to see this video after all those years. She is deliberatly modified (by Ein El?) is news to me!
I ignore TV shows and failed to get throigh games.
I've just started playing the witcher iii, so this video comes in very handy!
If you want a good song inspired by The Wild Hunt, listen to Ghost Riders In The Sky (the Johnny Cash version is the best)
Not as good as The Outlaws.
The wild hunt also features in another series called the Dresden files, that are some pretty great fantasy. I wonder @In Deep Geek if you'd be interested in covering them. I can't reccoment the audiobooks enough; they're pretty fantastically done, especially in later installments.
The Wild Hunt also shows up in Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files books.
Love it
My disappointment was pretty immeasurable in Witcher 3, when Eredin took off his mask and revealed to be just an elf.
Fr, he should just have kept the helmet on
Honestly if I were You, I'd completely drop all mentions of the TV show since it so far diverged from the world of Sapkowski that it's barely worth mentioning and just confuses listeners. Not to mention it is of such low quality it comes nowhere near the quality of any other IP in any other medium discussed on this channel.
Yes, but I enjoyed very much nevertheless
The WIld Hunt deliberately wearing scary outfits reminds me of a RedLetterMedia vid where they joke about the Predator aliens dressing up in the hunter costume for weekend safaris.
Wicther 3: I sleep
Witcher 3 when the Wild Hunt is mentioned: Real shit
Pleeeeease do a video ranking the power levels of the sorcerers
Formorians and the Tuatha de Dannan
The Wild Hunt killed Robert Baratheon.
Wrong series?
Almost killed Frodo too!
Ghost riders, in the sky.............
I’m here because I’m out of lotr content.
Witcher 3 was the only one I played, I was in high school when the first came out.
Vai fala de Warhammer fantasy algum dia?
I know it as cwn annwn.
The comet is similar to that in game of thrones
I thought it was when the dark one releases the dark hounds that... Aginor? Made.
I D G !!!!!!
The Netflix abomination has nothing to do with the Witcher.
Lying in bed not tired watching this video
Read Alan Garner.
Liked the video as always. Loath the intro. My guy, we all know how to subscribe.
There's only one problem with the Wild Hunt: if they're from another world, and want Ciri so they can leave their world, then how are they traveling between worlds in the first place? If they can hunt Ciri across worlds, then they can clearly already travel between worlds without her. So can't they just use that ability to migrate their people without getting Ciri involved? Am I the only one who notices this obvious flaw in their logic. It's like being hunted by pirates who need a ship... who hunt you in their ship.
I believe it is said that a few can still travel. And it takes a lot of energy. But their goal is to migrate their entire species, which they don’t have the energy for, as they are so many. The Witcher 3 explains it a lot better, and it has been a while for me.
Petition to exclude every mention of the "Witcher" show from these videos. Everyone agrees?
No. Disagree.
I agree!
@@belleviewbibliophile9835why is that?
I like the show.
First two seasons are fine. The third is a little weird. It doesn't need to be a 1 to 1 copy of the books for me. I'm perfectly happy letting both things exist as different patches cut from the same cloth.
I've said it somewhere else previously, but Ciri is a walking, breathing and sentient TARDIS.
The vore implications of ciri being bigger on the inside is cause for further study.
The TARDIS is sentient - see The Doctors Wife.
@@MsKathleenb OK, cool.
....the elves were at war with unicorns?
In the books, one of the unicorns mentioned in conversation with Ciri that elves lied to his kind. Also he shows her a huge cemetery where human victims of Aen Elle are buried. It is open to interpretation that unicorns played a part in elves' ability to transfer from one world to another, but disapproved their brutality toward local residents and tried to stop them. That is why they are helping Ciri to escape
@@ОльгаКрасінько okay thankyou
You should make some videos on The Name of The Wind.
Only if he beats GRRM to the end
Hey Robert,
Thank you for yet another great video.
Is there any Wheel of Time video on the horizon?
Also, is there a chance we'll get a DUNE video ahead of the next movie?
Thanks.
So the wild hunt is just the dark eldar?
Different worlds invading one another is kind of lazy lore. It's like time travel. You can always just make something up. Now there are elves from another world needing a time travelling girl with superpowers who can instantly use her oh shit button and escape (kinda like Yennefer and the rest with all their instant portals that don't make them exhausted, it's just ''poof here's my portal, bye bye'').
The Witcher's strength lies in the local stories, not the big things and magic. It actually does a pretty poor job with it. However, Geralt discovering and fixing a local problem and getting rid of a monster is where its strength lies.
And here I thought you were expanding your coverage into the Dresden Files... 😪
More Witcher book lore please. No show lore!
I love how in the Witcher, thr world is totally fucked due to its own equivalent climate change, and the big ending is that people just resign themselves to the fact that they are fucked and that there is nothing anyone can do, and all the people who tried to fix it end up having been evil villains who fail and die😂
Blood origin was so bad I switched off
The witcher tv is awful. I was hopeful but Henry tried to warn us.
Andrej D:
The Netflix adaptation is an abomination.
The show is so bad 😣
love your channel, but please just ignore the Tv show. It is badly written and not canon.
first :D

H8 u so much rt now.
What tv show there is none
screw the Witcher tv show
SCARED OF ME! That's what it is.
If it knows what's good for it.
You're welcome. Me.
Mmmn me. 🎉
Seems like they are paralleled to the vikings during their raiding period.
🌝
Blood Origin, how dare you speak such blasphemy! Those words should be outlawed.
The implication is that the wlves wanna breed Siri so her portal power will pass to her children.
But she's a Witcher, meaning she's barten/sterile.
Are they aware of this, and if so, does that affect their plans?
Ciri is not a witcher, nor sterile. You might have wrong information :)
@@siriusczech was she not raised in the wolf school?
Did she not receive the mutation treatment?
The games seemed to imply she had, but admittedly, I haven't played far into 3.
@@michaeljebbett160"read the books" seems to be the obvious answer here. But to answer you:
She was brought in by Geralt to Kaer Morhen, although it has been long since last witcher was made and the way to create a witcher is lost anyway. But while on Kaer Morhen, Ciri receives a training, knowledge and is also given some witcher potions to drink (a Swallow iirc and maybe few more), though witchers are not in unisono about as to give such thing to a teen girl or restrict her access to it iirc.
Then comes a problem. Ciri sees things and acts in magical ways that noone is able to contest/stop. So they send for Triss (closest of witches). She identifies some problems - for example Ciri having her first periods, resulting in "bans of training on dress days" as when she "has it", she is simply to dress in some dress and all those witchers present understand it as a signal. Triss also forbid witchers for good to heal Ciri with swallows and potions, as their effects on Ciri´s still developing body might hurt the progress (including further fertility) - basically keeping it on a safe note.
She, however, is not ale to fully help, hence why Yennefer is summoned (though Geralt is hesitant, they do not get along well everytime). Yen is finally able to help, links Ciri´s behavior to her elder blood and takes her into temple of Melitelé to be teached further in ways of magic and healing (and women things).
That is the (basic) summary. Read those books for further information, it is much better to know the whole story (and forget the TV series - it is not consistent with itself, let alone with books). There is much more into the whole topic, but the elder blood in Ciri is a major plot line - she IS in fact a powerful being thanks to it and there are multiple entities who would love to use it/her to their cause, most of which are not entirely "friendly" in their attitudes and means. And here I have to stop before giving out any spoilers. Enjoy your read! :)
@@siriusczech thankee!
Unfortunately anything woke writers or woke anything really just ruins all the lore
I really wish you would expand. Your channels says you cover more than The Witcher, GoT and LoTRs but that's all you upload and it's sorta stale
