Bugs like this, a years ago, made me switch from Ubuntu to Fedora. Hmm... 😕 Looks like nothing has changed.

Ubuntu. Release date more important than a working release. Every time they release there’s something wrong. Sticking with fedora

For those who are facing difficulties to install Ubuntu 24.04 because an installer bug, the solution is that you need first disable WiFi adapter and LAN to make it completely offline and then run the installer and it will work, I don't know why this happen but I think is something related to an IRQ problem or something like a network issue, just try this advice and you will install UBUBNTU 24.04 without any issues.

For me connecting to WiFi using the task bar BEFORE the installer gets to the Wi-Fi setup did the trick. ❤ Letting the installer handle wifi leads to a hang once I click “next” on the WiFi page.

I had the installer stuck at the wireless configuration step. Then out of curiosity i installed ubiqity (the previous installer) and when started it started a kde 24.04 install. I was intending to install 24.04 onto a previous ubuntu studio partition. This KDE thing pointed me to somehow the installer gets messed up with other ubuntu installs. With gparted I cleared the disk and then ubuntu 24.04 installed normally by wifi. I guess i did the dd another way. In any case very disappointing and also worrying about quality control with releases, especially when tagged with Long Term Support.

Their installer worked better when it was based on Debian. I would say stick with a rolling release like Arch or Fedora and things will be way better.

I decided to test it on a laptop I don't use often. It's stuck on 'Installing the system'.
When I did it via the live install, the installer app just quit after selecting language or whatever the next step was.

I tried installing Xubuntu 24.04 on intel nuc11 but after sometime something went wrong and when I rebooted the computer it gave me black screen. I had to shut down the computer forcefully. It didn't feel like Wi-Fi issue in my case, it felt more like a video driver issue. Having said that, Xubuntu 24.04 installed without a hitch on my laptop with AMD Ryzen 4800H and works great too. So that is my experience with Xubuntu 24.04. And because of this issue, I installed pardus 23.1 Xfce on my intel nuc11. Debian 12 also works on my intel nuc11 without any issues.

There are still 10+ years old bugs with Ubuntu 24.04 which would be important to fix but instead they release new s**t before fixing old issues. What is wrong with Canonical?

Best wait for the .1 release. Canonical are hell bent on "issue the distro on a certain date and be damned", rather than fix stuff. Not a good vibe. 24.04 is not recommended.

I also can't install it... it just hangs at some early point when copying files. So I tried Kubuntu instead and it just shows a background and nothing happens.

Trying to install, the menu keeps just closing on me before I can even begin to install from the live-boot USB. I'm rebuilding a media server and was going to fresh install from 18.04 to 24.04... but it's not working at all. So maybe I'll try going to 18.04 again, since I know that worked for me, lol.
