Oh, and I love your "Drive" snowstorm, it's actually my favorite of all your inktober drawings this year.
Really? Thank you, I had the giggles when I drew it, like I was getting away with something. Pretty fun!
I think I already mentioned it, but I took plenty of inspiration already from your blog and your process here. I've never done this type of challenge before. I'm doing mine on 3x2.5 inch bristol artist trading cards made by strathmore, so I didn't have to cut them, and I can stick them in little gaming card sleeves to preserve them, but I think it was a great idea to do them nice and small, allowing for maximum focus on details in a small area. I've done pencils for eight of the prompts, and aim to have all 31 of them penciled by the time October starts so I can focus on carefully ink rendering and detail in a variety of styles, with a variety of tools. I don't especially like the set of official prompts, but I actually like that I don't like it--it's going to cause me to draw a variety of subjects I might otherwise not have drawn. That said, I've already interpreted plenty of them obliquely, and I did a portrait of Captair Kirk for the "Trek" prompt. I bet we will see a great deal of Star Trek drawings for that prompt this year! :) Thanks again for all the great videos. I'll be reviewing your recent grass video today as I gear up to draw a grassy foreground.
Awesome!
Great tips,thank you. I liked " camera" most😂
The little meerkat was fun to draw for sure, glad you like it!
This is the most useful guide to a successful Inktober that I have seen. You inspired me to try one drawing per day. All in one day was a bit too much! 😄. ☮️💙🙏
I'll admit - it was a long day doing all 31 prompts at once. I'm glad you found it inspiring and enjoyed the tips. All the best with your Inktober this year!
I really enjoy going through your videos, and I am picking up some very useful tips. Thank you.
But I think your misinterpreting inktober. Doing the prep and planning is a great idea, but predoing drawings or doing batches in one day is wrong. The challenge is complete a drawing everyday. That means sit down and draw a picture everyday. You don't need to follow the guidelines posted either. They originally were meant as a guide not a requirement, just to help in a dry spell or block. Elaborate composition is not necessary, it you draw a cup you don't need the saucer and spoon or the donuts if your time constricted. The challenge.... It's a challenge to you as an artist, not to anyone else, your not in any competition. I've have completed inktober challenges and never posted a drawing online.
I think your doing a great job, wish you well, and look forward to seeing more of your work.
Glad that you're enjoying the videos, and thanks for sharing your perspective. My thoughts on that are that: Whether in art or life, with goals the first step to a challenge - is to be clear on your reasons for wanting to complete it. Sounds like you are clear on why you’re participating in Inktober. Other approaches are not ‘wrong’ they are just different goals than yours. Art challenges offer guidelines for individuals who want to participate as well as grow skills - the path to get there will be as unique as each of us.
this is so good, so many fantastic tips ☺☺
Glad you think so!
Lots of cool ideas. I'm rolling with my first break at work using my .005 micron, 2nd break 5.0 for line work, and maybe brush pens for final fill or watercolor if I'm inspired. That way I can limit to mostly 15-30 minutes a day.
Sounds great!
So wonderful. I really enjoyed your choices
The photographer meerkat is really cool! You deserve the cake for sure :)
amazing feat
What a great video. At first I was put off by the “super fast” idea since I feel YT videos often give the impression that art should not take long and then new artists (like me) have anxiety, but this video was perfect because it provided amazing tips and advice and encouragement for busy new artists (like me) to feel like they can accomplish a month long art challenge like Inktober. Thanks so much! Also you are so talented! Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
Wonderful
if you have to speedrun an exercise not sure what's the point of even doing it
Speed drawing is an effective warmup. Also, gets you a high volume of practice in a short time. The world's best marathoners do speed workouts on the track as part of their training, same goes with professional illustrators - quick sketching is worthwhile for growing skills as an artist.
@@longstrideillustration if you practice it wrong you gonna learn it wrong. you don't get faster at drawing by trying to go faster, you get faster by slowing down and understanding the subject in detail
@@solarydays I agree with what you are saying, at the same time the key takeaway of this particular video is that there are different options for those who are short on time and still want to participate in art challenges.
@@longstrideillustration yeah I get it, it's a social event for some
@@longstrideillustrationI was going to skip this year because I was doing an intense art course over Sept-Nov. You’ve just shown me how to set aside a few days to still participate in the challenge, thank you! To solarydays, some people already draw every day and the energy of Inktober drives them to try new things, which is why Jake Parker started it in the first place. It’s a “social event” in that there is a motivational energy in thousands of people worldwide spending a month doing the same creative thing. Also, any methods to produce finished work in the fastest time possible are invaluable to a professional artist. Think of it less of a speedrun than a workout.
Inktober? As in October? As in the calendar month of October begins next week? Absolutely not. Nope. Not happening. It was September 1st a few days ago. Why is adulting like this 😢
Great video as always. Thank you for making these videos :)
haha, I know right? Where has Summer gone? Soon we'll be decorating for the Winter holidays.
what is the point to do 30 sketches in one day? where is the fun of drawing every day?
Hi! If you're new to my channel, welcome. I draw every day, as full time artist. I've taken different approaches to Inktober in the past. This year, my October month is full-booked with other projects, but I still wanted to participate in the ink challenge. I saw that Kasey Golden did her Inktober in One Day, and wanted to try it too. The key takeaway of this video is that it's possible and an option if that fits your goals. Cheers
Your drawings are amazing ❤thanks
Thank you so much 😀
Hey ! Nice video, I wanted to ask if you can use references for inktober
Thank you. References are great. Copyright issues happen if your drawing is an exact copy of an image that has a registered trademark (like a Disney character) or your drawing will be used commercially (you're selling it). To be safe I tend to use copyright-free images as references. More info about that in this video: ruclips.net/video/nqvL1GZpn-I/видео.htmlsi=bS1WEBsFZ9PzY3Rq
So awesome! I kept saying, "Ohhh I like that the best." And then your next drawing would appear and I would say it again lol. Great drawings and great tips.
Thank you! That makes me happy to hear. I wasn't sure how they would turn out, especially the last few when it was 10PM and I was so over it lol
@@longstrideillustrationYeah I bet lol. I have had it in my head that I want to do a stippling piece but I know how much that entails so I'm like hmmm lol.
