Sam clearly states that the game wasn’t really made for him. For HIM. And then proceeds to say what he likes in games (open worlds, free exploration, etc.). Totally understandable, and I’m with him there. If it’s not for him, then it’s not for him.
100%
If its not for him them why is he even in the conversation then?If you dont like the genre or the game then whats the point of him inputting his opinion?
@@sakuragi1062 To offer insightful and interesting comments, which he did.
@@sakuragi1062 if you surround yourself with people of the same opinion then you'd never get criticism that would help you improve!
Playing on hard mode is always the way to go if u want more out of any game since the PS2 era
100% agree with you there, sometimes it can be frustrating but the rush you get from overcoming something that challenging is a sweet hit of dopamine.
In most cases, that just means moving a sponge slider up and down the spectrum, which is artificial difficulty. Very few games actually have differences in enemy AI behavior or varying scales of skill based difficulty of any kind.
Sam is like Daemon when Elden Ring came out lol
Who hurt my boy Sam? 😢 Who doesn’t like a father and son learning to see eye to eye!?😂
It's because is not zelda
@@Wolvie10 he doesn’t even like Elden Ring lol
@Monolith 64 my mistake it's just he pretty much describes the elden ring combat system.
Hahaha Sam is a bitter 90 year old man at heart
@@SofaKingOverThisIsh But it sounds like he loved the first game and thus brings up valid arguments
31:10 Pistol Whip is a 10/10 game and well known to the majority that play VR!! Yet you're calling it shovelware 🤣🤣
VR will always be a niche experience.
Too many people are not able to use it due to motion sickness, price point and the fact that it’s not as leisurely as standard gaming. They also need to rethink the games they’re making for it.
“Yeah it’s incredible. So what.”
-Sam Claiborn.
Did he really say that?! Damn, what a hater!
That guy is lame
@@julionogales5939 for having a opinion that differs to you?
@@mattlintott3870 People can’t handle differing opinions about entertainment these days.
lol
Sam with a litany of hot takes this week! Also, Mischief Makers is totally rad...
My question for Sam would be what would he expect from the sequel knowing it’s already about a father and a son
Freya casting a spell in the beginning to turn the game into a Pinball game.
@@TheSaltyRice u deserve more likes tbh
less expectation, more execution. It will be interesting what they do for the next game. Egypt?
The fact that PSVR2 isn't backward compatible with PSVR1 is a major deal breaker
Seems very odd that it’s not given PS4 games are backwards compatible on PS5. Should have enough juice to emulate if nothing else.
PSVR2 cost about the same as PSVR(with camera and controllers) and has alot newer and better tech(PSVR was outdated on arrival). PSVR2 will also have alot more games from the start with games like RE8 and Horizon. PSVR2 will also stay fresh alot longer than PSVR. IGNs take on this is bad, PSVR2 is alot better than PSVR and Quest. And Yes you can play Alyx on Quest, but you need a 1000$ computer and PSVR2 has much better tech than Quest( i.e better screen, tracking and overall picture quality).
Mark Turmell is the main person behind NBA Jam...as well as an unlockable character.
Honestly not surprised Sam doesn't like it or last of us or uncharted. Definitely seems like he doesn't like modern games
Agreed. Some people just can’t be satisfied.
@@seananih7609 not true he raved about tunic
@@mattlintott3870 Touché
And that's ok....I don't like em either
If by modern games you mean movies... (I'm exaggerating) he likes games that are videogamey not the cinematic ones... No problem with that ...
GoW Ragnarok is a great sequel to one of the best PS games ever. Nothing is really blowing people away these days, in my opinion it’s due to the cross generation requirements. Sam is also an old curmudgeon 😂
Love that Daemon has a Men Without Hats on vinyl!
Help me Marina!!! Shake shake
We need Mischief Makers remade or remastered.
“Father son stories aren’t that interesting” this guy hates his dad lol
Thanks Sam ! For peeling the onion ....keep it up ! Great show as always
Thanks sam at last honest opinions and not afraid to say what he thinks. I’ve not played the game and it does look exactly how you explained
"People say Marvel movies are formulaic but they don't feel that way"
...Most of them are though you can predict the bloody story beats from the trailers, they're also going to have infuriatingly poorly written quippy dialogue every 10 seconds and a key jangling post credit scene how is that not formulaic? lol
Yes sam lost me with that one
He doesn't like narrative based games, it very clear. It is what it is. His justification was bad though.
@@adiemthevamp He literally complained about using XP to unlock attacks because "this isn't a fighting game"...like how is anyone supposed to take a smooth brain take like that seriously lol
Yeah what a weird take. Sam lost me with that one too.
He literally said they are formulaic but they just don’t feel that way
Great episode
So what if they are the same game as TLOU and Uncharted?! They are my literal favorite game and clearly the best story games ever made.
Maybe ps5 vr development costs are so low they can do profit even with low user base
Appreciate Sam’s take here! Obviously, we can’t say much yet since we haven’t played it, but his take sounded like a critical way of seeing the game beyond than just being carried away by the emotional narrative weight and AAA gameplay
Sounds more like he just has a different taste
It's nice to hear that there are AAA studio's like Sony SM that still take great pride in the craftsmanship of game development re: no bugs, beautiful art, rock-solid frame rate, etc. Also appreciate Sam's criticisms.
Sam, interesting hot take on GoW and the PSVR. If the PSVR2 is PC compatible, then it's an interesting proposition. If there's no Half Life Alex, there's no reason to own one.
The original cost of PSVR for inflation is about the price of PSVR2. The cost will drop by next Black Friday.
The psvr 1 + camera + move controllers was allready almost the same price
Yeah that tracks as the og psvr cost 400 in 2016 with no controllers ( and 6 wires and separate box to connect it all!), but the psvr 2 is loaded with very nice tech for what it is at least.
Who really thought PSV2 would be 250 - 300 seriously?
How much was the first one on launch?
@@TheSMSpider 400, with the necessary ps move peripherals sold separately. So this essentially is the same price as the full psvr package when that is considered.
@@TheSMSpider the bundle with camera and controllers was $500 on release.
@Mcckoe it's got as many exclusive titles as PS5 does though! 🤣 jkjk
Unless 👀
Look at other high end vr sets like the valve index. Vr sadly is going to be expensive for a while.
Sam went all in lol...
Great Stuff, as always.

Sam giving off big Grampa Simpson vibes this episode 😂
Sam has a very interesting point, these Sony games are starting to feel all the same, just different skin, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad game but it’s staring to feel old the same thing over and over again just a different setting.
Yeah cause there’s a major difference in the souls games, platformers, FPS’s, open world RPG’s etc. The genre is the genre. So you will get an action story game in an action story game.
Yeah like zelda games.
@@mikebeckett2164 Right like this could be brought up in any genre
These comments are maddening
PSVR 2 is "the most fanciest" in wired VR headsets outside of super expensive specialist products... Integrating all the software and hardware tightly enough to do foveated rendering fast enough to be effective will be difficult on a windows platform. Maybe for a few years, PSVR2 should exclusively have the best VR graphics available to a mass market...
If the PSVR2 was PC compatible I’d agree with the price but it isn’t
Sam “Dissenting Opinion “ Claiborne
Only way i'll even think about getting VR is if they bring Half Life Alyx. Otherwise I'll maybe get one used towards the end of its life cycle.
4:15 someone tell her to never play a Xenoblade game if that bothers her lol
PSVR 2 has comparable specs and price to headsets that also include a mobile computer and battery that we would see in $500+ mobile phones... PSVR 2 should be way cheaper since it has no mid-to-high-range mobile phone hardware included...
Where is Astro Bot rescue mission 2 for psvr 2?
Jada is a great Scoop addition!
It was a great day to be on Scoop! Hope to be back soon!

Nicely Job. 💯
Both Sam and Justin make me bust out laughing at least once when having an "issue" with Hatfield's Yes and No answers. The veiled frustration on their faces. 😁👌👍
Really enjoyed having Jada on this episode, you guys should have her on here more often.

Sam hit the nail on the head with Sony exclusives so hard it completely splintered
What, that they're all third person? How is that a criticism of anything?
@@pitchen Cause they are all starting to feel like the same experience, people always bring this up.
If you think UC4, TLOU2 and Ragnorak are the same experience you might want to actually give them a go.
Bout the same as all the zelda games becoming the same experience.
What’s the song that was at the end?
The song at the end o the podcast, not here. Sounds like Daemon.
Can't wait 👌🏾
SCOOP!
😂😂 marvel movies aren't formulaic and these games are? Lmfaoooooooooooo
I'm wondering if VR could fail? None of them seem to be doing too well and maybe in 10 years the different companies will have decided it wasn't worth it and would have ceased production
PSVR 2’s price isn’t comparable to other similar spec VR units because you need the PS5 to play it unlike other units which are standalone which brings the price to play over £1000/$1000 which is a ridiculous price of entry!!!
Happy to see Jada on scoop
Got a bit tiring hearing Sam nitpicking over things about the game in a not very meaningful way. He could simply say it wasn't his type of game rather than list off everything that defines the game as bad.
He did say that.
@@Woodlouse81 In that case, simply stick to only saying it's not his type of game and leave it at that.
@@Theory104 He was very clear he was just offering his own opinion, and not trying to yuck anyone’s yum. He then offered detailed and meaningful insights. Anyone offended he didn’t love itvas much as they expect to is being a bit silly.

Thank you Cristobal hope you enjoyed the show and are having a fantastic weekend!
Sam what the hell? At 21:40 you complain about what you unlock with the skill trees? LMAO that's been a GOW staple since the original games. Also, it's very common in single player action games.
And how is that not interesting? It literally adds another layer of complexity to the video games. Plus, you prefer parries? That was in STREET FIGHTER games before all, if not, most games.
Agree with Sam as usual, boring, bloated, by the books. Skip the skill trees and upgrades and dumb puzzles.
Jada was on Scoop, Beyond, and NVC this week! Love it!
I was going for the full gambit but missed unlocked and NGCW this week, we shall see if the stars align again and my schedule allows for me to go for it again haha. 😅
Love you jada but you can't be on unlocked leave my xbots alone ... completely kidding obviously console wars only exist if you don't have all the platforms like a true gamer

Justin is the type of dude who would give RAGNAROK a 6/10…
@Mcckoe And Dark Souls gets a pass, why? It literally has been almost the same game four times now, with the exception being the open world that connects the levels of Dark Souls 4.
@@dangerass1982 Exactly! If Elden Ring can be considered a masterpiece for its gameplay which is literally the same for quite some years now, then GoW Ragnarok is a masterpiece too!!
@Mcckoe why would their be a generational leap? It’s on the PS4
Why do you care what his opinion is?
He literally said it deserves all the 10/10s it’s getting???
Sam is so raging! He wants it to be elden ring
Why do you care what his opinion is? He prefers open exploration than heavy story. That’s been very well established.

Haven't watched the episode all the way yet, but Justin and Sam didn't play Elden Ring, so they aren't voting for it to win. Not sure if that's what you're implying

Yay Jada!
Hope you liked the show Phelix! Excited for Ragnarok?
The ps5 is not powerful enough to play Half-Life Alyx respectably. The recommended specs for that on pc are set low, and the game runs poor at those settings.
@Mcckoe it simply is not. Eye tracking will do nothing for the game performance wise. Valve would have to implement something like fsr to help, even then it would be rough. RTX 3060 cards paired with 6+ core cpus that are all higher spec than the ps5 still struggle to run this game without frame drops on even medium settings. It COULD be possible, but would require a lot of work.
25:33 If you want to skip the GoW conversation
MVP, thanks
