That’s what José Rizal (the national hero) was talking about in his essay “The Indolence of the Filipinos “ Filipinos are not indolent/lazy. We have siestas (rest or quick nap after lunch) because farmers during the Spanish occupation and even today can’t work under the sun on mid day. Otherwise they’ll die of heat exhaustion.

The Spanish ruled the Philippines for 300 years. Suppressing the Malay culture, language, but NOT teaching them Spanish. So when the Americans arrived, the Philippine Islands absorbed its first lingua franca, English, with as much enthusiasm as a toddler learning to speak for the first time. Filipinos are among the best english speakers in the world because to be honest, English is their first universal language.

Hearing Filipino boy's sentences, i dont think he was referring to blacks in his sentences but rather, all races but whites. Hence i dont think he was trying to be politically correct. In 1972 I had a Filipino friend called Noel Morales in New Delhi India. He was a school junior boxer and the son of a diplomat and lived in our area. We cycled together throughout the summers of 1971 and 1972 and played a lot. Then when we were in the 7th grade at a Jesuit school in New Delhi, the math teacher got on his case and sadly Noel hit him in the face and I still remember the teacher's glasses going flying across the room! Then sadly Noel had the leave the school and join another one and then later his father was transferred to some other country as he was in the diplomatic service. Wonder where he is now?? He should be my age, 60, how can I find him?

As you would noticed the word "negro" has not been used by the Filipino representative. This is because as thought in our school that word is an example of collaquialism.

What's the boy's full name. He reminds of one of our good senators before. Senator Raul Manglapus. He was also very eloquent.

I highly recommend to react to Johnny Antillon! He is also an exchange student in 1954 and they are debating about COMMUNISM! You will see how FILIPINOS before are very intelligent answering government issues.

If you enjoyed this video Ovela, try watching Johny Antillon's video. He was also in this show in 1954 and showed impressive intellect and debating skills. You would enjoy it too for sure.

I am proud to be a Filipino and I am proud with this young boy. Filipino are not Lazy. When I was a kid in the Philippines. My parents taught me with my siblings to wake up very early morning. After breakfast we all went to our land, preparing to clean our land by cutting the grassroots. They taught us to plant rice, corn, cassava and vegetables and many more. In the midday we all went back inside the house and preparing our lunch. After lunch we are going to sleep for 1hr then we all going back again to our land to continue farming. But this generation the kids are not interested about farming. They are now fucus on gadgets online.

The word STATUS was pronounced right by Raul. It's not a Pilipino accent. It's just like English people say tomato with short A and some say tomato with the long A. Raul used the long A. He have a pretty good accent considering his age. Very smart as well.
