Filipinos watching Johnny feeling proud on how he debate, speak, etc. How about feeling inspired not just proud? Aspire to be like him. Nakakaproud naman talaga si Johnny but I think he would appreciate it more if the Filipino youth would make him as inspiration to be better.

Before we have great intellectuals and patriotic statesmen like Salonga, Diokno, Tolentino, Recto, etc. Now we have idiots, clowns, goons, comedians, etc running the government.
"as well" meaning someone else? I'm a filipino too and the indian speaker is the dominant and most superior intellectual that stands out from the rest of the speakers presented here. Jonny Antillon I've found in this debate to be really quite naive, sadly, despite being rightfully idealistic in a beautiful way. However just look at the world we have today, theserious class imbalances and mishandling of powers in nations that are not the US, the imperialist's strategy of divide and conquer is still very much alive to this very day and Vangala had foresaw it. God bless his soul.
Im Papua New Guinean and i must say the second i heard johnny speak i was captivated with the way he articulated himself. He spoke with confidence, intelligence, wisdom that was beyond his time and was the most understanding one out of the group. He had all the qualities to be a leader. I am not philipino but i am very proud of him but that does not mean i am not proud of the rest, its just something about Johnny. I loved each of them and how they all delivered their speeches without demeaning each other. They were respectful towards each other and you couldn't say that for political leaders these days nor for youths these days. I only hope and wish for youths to be more like johnny well atleast i hope to be like johnny. He is a true inspiration, may his soul rest in eternal peace. Rest well KING.
Don’t forget this was before the sixties. Most youth in the 50’s were very respectful of the elders and fellow man. Common curtesy was the way of the time.
I noticed Johnny's difference from other speakers is he doesn't read his speech. He look straightforward to the people and that makes a connection - and that made him an effective speaker
21:57 "I do not want a future, which we are sure of, to be be rosy. I like the suspense which gives to life its only true zest. If we must lose, I do not want to be disheartened in advance. And if we must win, I do not want to be bored by knowing so beforehand. I believe that if there's one thing we deserve, it's the pleasure of anticipation " - Sir Johnny Antillon 🙌🙌🙌
Johnny spitting facts: On American aid: "In trying to be friendly, you become aggressively friendly, and you ram your aid down our throats, and you tell us that you know better than we do how your aid should be used." On the admission of China to the UN: "I do not believe that we should deprive ourselves of a bargaining point, and therefore I feel that China should not be admitted into the United Nations unconditionally. If she must be admitted, let us get something in exchange, like the unification in Korea and the promise there of an election under UN auspices." On young leaders: "...new leaders can find new solutions to old problems." On the uselessness of war: "Every time we have one, we rob ourselves of time which we could have used in building and not destroying." "If we start another world war, there can be no distinction between loser and victor." On his hopes for the world's future: "...may it never be a ... soft place for soft people with soft heads, for I believe that we need a challenge... to bring out the nobility that is in each one of us."
what sadden me is where are the UN officials after this debate, i cannot anymore remember how the world was, only i know is that the war did not stop...Korea, Ireland, the middle East in each homelad war did not stop, so so sad why we humans cannot come into terms...lets go back to happy trading and exporting and importing....i don't know, it's tiring...22021 we have the worst pandemic that started 2020..God help us.
Today, the US still rallies a lot of arms in Korea and Japan to prepare for defense against N. Korea, but their true agenda is to not let N. Korea's dictator gain more power or let communism gain more influence. The US still rallies in South East Asia heavily to defend against China, but their true agenda again is to not let China's leader gain more power in territory and economy or again let communism gain more influence. The UN eventually took in China, and now her influence over the UN involvements grows rapidly even until this day. Today, the stigma around communism is fading, but the relationship between communism and capitalism remains fragile. Wars around the world today is all about political stunts(aka flexing military power or sending threats), shifting the mass's attention (blaming other nations for worldwide issues or fabricating a cause that catches the mass's attention like wildfire). In the current generation, people invade government buildings with their freedom, instead of making one correct vote with due diligence with their freedom. Meanwhile, the youth grow up flooded with news of bad representation of leaders, so they come up with ways to be free from any avenues where there is a rigid system in place (aka classrooms, 9-5 jobs, going to college, and for some might be their home). Yup, so see y'all in 2030..
As an Indian I agree on the Filipino guy in many things... 1. Participation of China in the UN and giving her the Veto power. 2. We must not live in Utopian scenarios, instead we should look on what we have now and try to improve it,I loved this part of him a lot! In 24:35 His words saying that "If I loose I don't want to be disheartened in advanced and if I win I don't want to be bored knowing what the outcome would be" touched my heart! 25:31 I completely agree him saying " May this word never be a soft place for soft people with soft heads" which shows how adventure willed he is. Like I saw a meme saying "Hard Times create strong men and strong men creates good times and then good times create weak men and weak men create Hard Times" which shows us the cycle. Also this part 25:52 saying that " A world with such challenge and scope of our lives might never be complacent, but they shall be worth living". His intelligence, Wisdom and optimism is admirable. I do agree Indian debated brilliantly but I found words of Filipino more appealing.
Thank you. Yes, of course, I admire Ram. He is eloquent and everything he said was with conviction. He is a brilliant young man. He understands the world better. I agree with the other comments here saying.."Ram for Prime Minister of India.". *India and the Philippines nailed it. Asian power!*
In actuality johnny was more well spoken and did believe in the ideals of globalization but it's sad that it wasn't an real. The UN is definitely more about the control of powers and status quo. Europe is still in Africa. America is probably the biggest colonizers of today and it's unfortunate that these ideals were not very practical. The west should've been upfront because this was mostly about furthering the control of resources if we're being honest. Asia is still poor and Europe still is in Africa, globalization isn't ok every country shouldn't be on the same standards and that thinking has created extreme nationalism, that's why Russia is trying to retake Ukraine over resources and China is eyeing Taiwan so they can be "proud" Chinese again. Ram and the German gentleman were seeing with amore world view because of their experiences. India was becoming Indian without too much foreign control and Germans were in a horrible state that the children weren't necessarily to blame for but had to understand it so it wouldn't be repeated, but America still refuses to properly educate the masses about native or black history. True growth doesn't come from ideals unfortunately it comes from rectifying issues and moving forward with better understandings and intentions.
Tears fell when Jhonny took time to express his ideas about war and peace. Im so proud of how he stood there as a Filipino and showed not just intelligence but heart and dignity! During his time he showed to everyone what REAL TALK is!!! Good job Sir!
I noticed that Johnny was always talking about Pres. Magsaysay as an example, and makes me think that, indeed, Magsaysay was one of the best presidents the Phils. ever had, but only for a short time.
A documentary in the US tv a few yrs ago the ambassador of Us to the Philippines said that he met Kings , Queens, Presidents of the world but Presidents Magsaysay is the best govts. leader he ever met. That President Magsaysay really cares about the people of the Philippines.

No hate to Johnny but i would like you to ponder upon your words ‘debates like these should be shown in schools’ now if, you are sceptic in any sense and judge every single thing thhat you seenor hear you must have realized that Jhonny is an extremist(reference from the other debate video on this channel) Extremism in action or ideas was never good and never will be. Showing debates in school isnt so big of an issue but filling into minds of children and raising them to be extremists is. Imgaine having a population with adults who are furious and hot blooded as to give death penalty to as much as think of communist principles. Thats terrific dont you think that?
Aren't there already some kinds of debate like this at school? I mean before the pandemic, our civic/social teacher usually open a debate amongst the students about the chapter we have learnt and relate it to what's happening right now so that us the students can state our opinion about those topics.
When Johnny said in 3:09 "neutral countries today are neutral because they think that by being neautral today they will be strong enough tomorrow not to be neutral anymore". He really amazed me when he said that, as you can see today other country is now showing thier powers if you know what I mean.
Jose Rizal would probably so proud if he met Johnny. He's an explicit example of how "kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan". Very inspirational speeches from all of the speakers ❤️

Johnny was so handsome in his Barong Tagalog. He was so attractive and intelligent. I really admire him so much. This was just a recommended video but I am getting addicted to watch it now.
The reality nowadays is true. Every country wanted to use the American native accent even in the professional world here in the Philippines--especially the BPO industry since they need to cater services to the American regions. But the world lost the touch of aunthenticity and uniquiness that the English language and its pronunciation should not need an international standard. These young and intelligent representatives of their countries during their times can be clearly and sharply understood, without the biases in the pronunciation.
@@uzzielledelacruz Well, at least they're no racist and xenophobic. The last time I checked though, during this pandemic most of the front liners are nurses from the Philippines.
As an English teacher of public speaking and I salute Sir Johnny's wit and eloquence not with an American accent but with a Filipino English accent. I can't help but dream of having a group of students like him. I equally salute to all of the other international exchange students who displayed their unimaginable wit, wisdom and eloquence and how respectful they all are in expressing their disagreements against each others ideas.
I have lived your dream. I taught elementary school for 12 years (00-12) here in Nashville, TN (a melting pot of refugees). In 2002 our school district decided to segregate (in a way) non English speaking students from English speaking students in self-contained classrooms. I was at a large school and the last six who were hired were told to get their certification in ESL or find another job. I looked at it as an opportunity and I went back to school and I got my masters in English as a second language and in curriculum and instruction. I began to teach a self-contained kindergarten classroom with up to 20 to 25 students who did not speak any English. this was an experiment and those of us that did it worked hard learning strategies to use and attending training & meetings to discuss ways in which to deliver instruction, communicate, pinpoint pros and cons of being self-contained, and we did not always see eye to eye, especially when it came to annual standards and goals and expectations etc. I found that having higher expectations of my students, led to higher literacy rates. I did this for 9 years and I enjoyed every minute of it. I had students from over 35 different countries over that time. Many people would ask me if I knew Spanish and I remember replying to them that that wouldn't help in my classroom because I had students from Iraq, Yemen, China, Burma, Vietnam, Russia, and Bosnia. I had a student from Egypt whose father spoke Farsi and mother spoke Spanish. I had a student from Venezuela who spoke French. I had students from Afghanistan, Thailand, Nigeria, and Ghana. I loved her she called me 'madam'. I felt very fortunate to have known all of these children and even more so a great sense of pride the couple of years that my students who came into my classroom not knowing any English were exited from the program by the end of the year passing their Reading writing listening and speaking exams higher than their English counterparts in regular English speaking classrooms. What I enjoyed most was the sense of appreciation I got from the families (especially the middle eastern women who said they never went to school or went for 1 year in a cave), the cooperation I got from the families, and I learned so much about the world through our constant communication (right after 9/11, I asked a lot of questions about their experiences and knowledge of being discriminated against by Hussein's regime and genocide and weapons of mass destruction, mustard gas and it's affects on villages and reproduction, the banning of Kurdish books, and escaping through Turkey, etc. Stories never spoke about in the media during the war there. The students were taught to be respectful. They were taught to listen and pay attention. They were disciplined, unlike our natural born black and white kids who I was teaching when I resigned, who were very disrespectful and spoiled. The last couple of years I taught ESL in a third grade self-contained classroom and then they started integrating again. I discovered those who were in the program still at that point and had not yet exited the program, most likely wouldn't have, because there were some other developmental issue going on. Another issue I faced was with the illegal immigrants. I had many students from El Salvador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Columbia, or Cuba whose parents were reluctant to accept resources or other types of assistance with children that had disabilities because they were afraid they would be deported. These children were much more mature and family oriented than ours. Although the Spanish speaking population was obviously the largest in my classroom, I had numerous students every year who were Kurdish and Arabic who took great pride in where they came from. They would discuss their fathers first wives who were usually white and bad! I was intrigued to learn that most of these 9 year olds were taught that they divorced and married their mothers because white women like me, smoked and drank and did terrible things. That was disturbing (most likely a path to citizenship). They still called their home country, Kurdistan. The girls were always easier to teach than the boys and would return to the classroom years later in the second and third and fourth grade to check on their siblings to see how they were, like mother figures. They were always brilliant and intelligent by the end of the year and usually the boys would catch up to them by the next year, but I could definitely tell a cultural difference in how genders of children were treated in the home. These children soaked up everything I taught them like sponges and I feel so fortunate to have been there to do this during that time of self-contained ESL classes. I proved year after year that having high expectations for them enabled them an ability to learn just as much as natives despite their cultural and language barriers! I haven't spoke much of this in about 10 years, but you brought up a great time in my life when things actually were much simpler! Thanks

Johnny antillone is One of the true genius man in thr Phillipines back in 1950s. No wonder people are smart on those old days because books, newspapers, magazines and any other reading materials are precious and gold for them... Unlike now most teenangers of this generation are addicted to games, uneducational videos, facebook, tiktok, etc. not even participating in online class discussion, if they so, the attention/focus are not merely in their mind but in other aspects that can cause lazinessm.
Why do people always love to generalize and compare the youth today and before without really any solid basis or research. Besides, mas madali nang matuto ngayon dahil lahat nasa internet na and most people have access to that. Well, downside nun ay more distractions pero still, madaming kabataan ngayon ang educated tungkol sa mga relevant topics. Yes, may mga teenagers na parang wala nang inatupag except sa games and other stuff pero normal lang naman iyon hahaha, sa tjngin niyo ba lahat o even karamihan ng kabataan noon ay katulad nung nasa video? Ikaw na sumagot niyan hahaha
For me may point po Yung sinasabi ni Daniel he didn't generalized all youth but to think na he said "most teenagers" technically."Hindi LAHAT kundi karamihan ng kabataan Ngayon". Yes, Nandoon po Yung punto na "don't compare the past to the future" Kasi iba na eh pero naiisip din po natin na "why not pwedeng mangyari 😂". Kasi some of young people are struggling with their studies, some of them walang problema sa pag-aaral at Yung iba Hindi seryoso sa pag-aaral. NGAYON po iba narin Ang panahon LAHAT NG KABATAAN MAY KANYA KANYANG PINAGDADAAN AT PANGANGAILANGAN, Ang magiging problema lang NILA ay Kung AAYOS BA SILA SA GANUNG SISTEMA o MAGPAPATULOY. Opinion ko Lang po as a youth😊
maybe, maybe not 😅 What is racism really is? For me it is in the intention to malign others. Like growing up in my country we usually refer to a black person "negro" but it is only referring to their skin color and nothing else. And now, I know that it is a racist word and should not be referred to an individual because it is offensive. My point is that there are certain words that may sound racist to others but the person saying it did not mean anything to it. Maybe the government should add another subject called "Political Correctness" 😅 The problem today is that you cannot voice out your opinion without others judging you specially in social media. I really think that the world right now has gone backwards. Instead of acceptance of different ideas like these kids shown, now people are more divided than ever.
I was surprisingly shocked by his powerful convictions and his witty point of view that serve as a guiding principle of future's fate.He was actually predicted the role of China in today's generation.I think if he was only given the chance to become the president of the Philippines during his times he would probably elevate the status of his countrymen from poverty & uplift the country into an upper middle income class but sad to say he was one of the supposed best presidents that we never had.
Someone claiming to be his grandson said this on Reddit. "He never entered politics but had a successful career in business. He had different careers: former supervisor for the sta.mesa market -he owned a garments factory ( he sold it due to the collapse of the economy in Cory Aquino's presidency) -He was part owner of the Harrison plaza mall in manila -Worked as a freelance legal counsel / business advisor for various businessmen -President of the Jai-alai Philippines -President of Sage casino, the first online casino in the Philippines a lobbyist -member of the anak bayan party President of the rotary club in downtown manila I'm not entirely sure about the other things that he did, but these are what I can recall. He once told me that he used to sell milk fish door-to-door and that he would walk from cavite to manila everyday in his slippers just so that he could help his family and support his education. He never really liked getting involved with politics. He always said they were all crooks and hoodlums."
It feels like Johnny came from the future. Because every word he say tells the truth and has a point. We can see them today or in our predictions in the near future.
Johnny: ".. but what i admit that what struck me most about you Americans was that you discuss the future as if you think there will BE one" periodt lol
This is how my grandfathers articulate American english before. It is because they were more of Spanish speakers. Filipinos during those times are good english and spanish speakers.
@@joyce7550 how lovely would that be to have conversation with them. My background isn't into this narrative eh, my older relatives nowadays are more into "chismis" and not into politics.
@@maxmd9218 Filipinos still are "good" English speakers, but Antillon's level of formality doesn't exist today especially among teenagers (which is totally fair considering speech evolves over time).
It started with Raul Contreras...and ended up here admiring Johnny Antillon. Ram has several good points in here also. As an Asian, I feel proud of them here. Their mannerisms and speech just showed how intelligent and charismatic these young people were. What makes me sad it, most of their points here are still relevant in today's world. That just proves how humans greed really is what divides us.
Vangala Ram from India was outstanding. He put across his points with charming politeness and quick humour. It is ironic, that India was strongly standing for China's right to be a part of UN in 1954, and today China is blocking India's efforts to become a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council. It is a classic case of biting the very hand which feeds You. Johnny Antillon was so accurate in his assessment of China!
You forgot ram also said all countries should be equal members and veto power should be abolished. Johnny was right about China but ram wanted everyone to be treated equal
He did learn this in school so I don’t think he was the only one who thought like that. And how many of us who were born back then ever heard of these debates. I am a old man and just now hearing about these debates.
If programs like these are still ongoing today, Im pretty sure people would stop complaining about today's teens complaining about society. The new generation may look bratty but given the opportunity, they would grasp it and talk about foreign policies like these kids back then.
Actually if you talk to most of teens individually today, they are curious and at least have a general knowledge of it as an average person. But if you try to refer them in groups, peers come in and they'll get scared of being called "nerd" or "uncool"; gradually making themselves oblivious. Although these teens in the video are exceptional, because they are made for international relations and geopolitics, so theyre not just average kids.
lol nowadays, if a certain person (especially youngsters) gives an opinion about social or political matter, ibabash ka agad, most especially kapag against sila sa opinion mo. kesyo mas matanda sila and "mas marami silang alam" kuno. yung iba natatakot nalang mag voice out.

Hi, I'm Filipino but my mom's ethnicity is Japanese . I just wanted to share what my dad had told me. My dad was born in Butuan City 1954 during this particular time that Johnny participated as an exchange student. What my dad told me, during his schooling that our country had "current events" subject or discussion where they gather newspapers discussing it everyday and archive it for an entire year. It was part of their curriculum that's why highschool students in the early 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were super aware of what's going on, in their society despite of the lesser technology compared to what we have today.. My mom is Japanese born in the Philippines.. despite the war our country received Japanese naturalized to Filipinos to our society.. Our countrymen were that forgiving and open to people who embraced our culture.
I hope the Department of Education will see your comment. #deped Maybe the could incorporate it back to our school's curriculum. Thank you for sharing.

actually a lot of our youths in the Philippines are critical thinkers and do speak out. The problem is that a lot of Filipinos (mostly older ones) do not care nor want anyone speaking out that is not according to their own views. For example, kapag nag sasalita ang isang Filipino tungkol sa presidente at ang view nito ay panget at ineffective ang kanyang ginagawa, kahit may FACTS or articulate ang speaker, SOBRANG dami padin sa atin ang close-minded and hindi marunong makipag debate ng tama or kayang tangapin ang idea na lahat ng tao may iba-ibang pananaw sa buhay. Essentially, Philippines has a culture na kahit matalino ka, articulate ka, marunong ka mag debate, marunong ka mag critical thinking DILAWAN ka padin kapag di nila gusto ideas mo. Yan ang totoo. Lack of open-mindedness for other people's ideas.

To be "a fly on the wall" has never been truer than us being privy to these brilliant discourses 67 years after, a product of equally if not more technologically brilliant minds of this generation.
"In trying to be friendly you become aggressively friendly, and you ram your aid down our throats"
- Johnny Antillon on America
He wasn't wrong though
Johnny spitting facts:
On American aid: "In trying to be friendly, you become aggressively friendly, and you ram your aid down our throats, and you tell us that you know better than we do how your aid should be used."
On the admission of China to the UN: "I do not believe that we should deprive ourselves of a bargaining point, and therefore I feel that China should not be admitted into the United Nations unconditionally. If she must be admitted, let us get something in exchange, like the unification in Korea and the promise there of an election under UN auspices."
On young leaders: "...new leaders can find new solutions to old problems."
On the uselessness of war: "Every time we have one, we rob ourselves of time which we could have used in building and not destroying."
"If we start another world war, there can be no distinction between loser and victor."
On his hopes for the world's future: "...may it never be a ... soft place for soft people with soft heads, for I believe that we need a challenge... to bring out the nobility that is in each one of us."
what sadden me is where are the UN officials after this debate, i cannot anymore remember how the world was, only i know is that the war did not stop...Korea, Ireland, the middle East in each homelad war did not stop, so so sad why we humans cannot come into terms...lets go back to happy trading and exporting and importing....i don't know, it's tiring...22021 we have the worst pandemic that started 2020..God help us.

Students should watched old videos
Yeah what about the teenagers of your generation? What did they contribute?
Ikaw na sumagot niyan hahaha
aheeemmm🤣😂wtf
In a world where different opinions did not get you bashed, cancelled or called racist 😅
That is caused racism is normalized back then.
maybe, maybe not 😅 What is racism really is? For me it is in the intention to malign others. Like growing up in my country we usually refer to a black person "negro" but it is only referring to their skin color and nothing else. And now, I know that it is a racist word and should not be referred to an individual because it is offensive. My point is that there are certain words that may sound racist to others but the person saying it did not mean anything to it. Maybe the government should add another subject called "Political Correctness" 😅 The problem today is that you cannot voice out your opinion without others judging you specially in social media. I really think that the world right now has gone backwards. Instead of acceptance of different ideas like these kids shown, now people are more divided than ever.

a lobbyist -member of the anak bayan party
President of the rotary club in downtown manila
I'm not entirely sure about the other things that he did, but these are what I can recall. He once told me that he used to sell milk fish door-to-door and that he would walk from cavite to manila everyday in his slippers just so that he could help his family and support his education.

But it makes me wonder for Ram what now he thoughts he was defending a neighbouring nation as a friend but that same friend only uses veto power to not give India a UN seat and that too the seat was offered to us that time our PM Nehru gave it to China saying they are more deserving. And not to that after the speech the decade ig they attacked India. Such a betrayal? Why
One reason why Johnny spoke so convincingly was that he had personally experienced the ravages of war.
Johnny is so brilliant but not pedantic. His delivery, wit and sense of humor is so refreshing and projects a sense of hope for the future generation. Stan Johnny! But while these vids are priceless, it cannot be gainsaid that the power of technology today was largely instrumental. To be "a fly on the wall" has never been truer than us being privy to these brilliant discourses 67 years after, a product of equally if not more technologically brilliant minds of this generation. The critical and analytical thought processes may still be the same, but the challenges and paradigms of their respective era are vastly different.
