  • FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze at Northenden Golf Club early this morning, (Sunday, October 19, 2014).
Station Manager Jon Crawley, Officer In Charge said: “We received the call at 5.20am this morning and spent several hours tackling the fire in the 100 year old building.
“When Crews arrived at the premises the Golf Steward that lives on site had self-rescued and escaped uninjured.
“The two storey building was well alight, but firefighters from Moss Side, Withington and Wythenshawe worked hard to tackle the fire using hose reel and a high volume pump and we also used an aerial appliance to get water in to the building from above”.
Palatine Road was closed for a few hours whilst crews accessed water from the River Mersey to deal with the incident.
An investigation is being carried out by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire, but due to the severe damage the building has now been deemed unsafe by a buildings inspector.
There are no reports of any injuries.
