Mount hidden rear speakers in your classic car

  • If you own a classic or vintage car and want to upgrade the stereo system but not make it look like you upgraded it (or added one), you need to watch this video. I love old cars, and I love a great automotive sound system, but I don't want to see speakers protruding from areas in the car where they would not have originally been. Even in full-on custom builds, I just want to hear the speakers, not see them. In this video I show how to flush mount rear speakers into the rear window filler panel.
If someone already installed rear speakers in your antique car, no worries, you can change their mounting position to hide them just like what I did. Simply bolt them in from the underside and then make a screen inlay to hide the holes (and speakers).
Hiding the speakers will also deter someone from trying to break in to steal them.
There are several ways to hide the headend stereo unit as well, depending on the car. Some people will mount it in the glovebox, some mount it under the dash. My 54 had a radio delete plate in it, so I mounted the stereo behind it and then made the delete plate removable by putting velcro on it. When I'm in the car I simply pull the delete plate off. When the car is parked, I simply stick the delete plate back in place. The dash keeps its original look, and no one is tempted to steal the radio because they can't see it (and they can't see the speakers!).

Dude, you completely took this in a different direction. I wasn't claiming to be an audiophile. I was simply showing an idea for hiding speakers in the rear window deck as I don't like seeing speaker grilles in this area in vintage cars.

I am hiding mine in the front in the parcel shelf area bolted to the bulkhead in my 1964 Morris Minor.

I like custom stuff done to cars but this type of mount does not give you a good sound basically a tweeter . The right set up mounted above the dash tray will bump as if you have some type of sun I. The car.

Ideally, there should be an enclosure mounted around the underside of the speakers. I'll eventually get to building that. The point of the video was really to show an idea for hiding rear speakers.
