Stylist here. I've heard of stylists sneaking in a tiny bit of relaxer during a press to make it easier for them to smooth the hair. It's lazy, damaging and totally ruins the texture.

Yes, sometimes stylists will sneak relaxer into the rinse out conditioner. It's tragic... and they deserve to be sued.

You know what's ridiculous?? You having to say "i was upset about being upset about my hair...cause its just hair"
Except you only said that to avoid the "i can't even pay my rent and you're crying over HAIR??"
listen....dont apologize for the things that are important to you. You're a woman and even if you were a man....ITS OKAY FOR HOW YOU LOOK TO BE IMPORTANT TO YOU. Everyone else's issues are not your issues. And remember not to dim your shine to make others feel better.

I think I understand why she said that. I'm a hairstylist and I see people all the time with hair loss thats out of their hands. So I try to remind myself that hair is just an accessory and you do whatever you can/want to do.

    • @SamanthaD89
      @SamanthaD89 3 года назад +3

I agree. Even though it’s not the worst issue in the world I would be devestated if my hair got damaged and I had to cut it all off and then couldn’t find a way to make it work. I’m white so I have a different hair texture but I went to get a hair cut one time, my hair was very long like halfway down my back and I asked the stylists to cut off 5 inches. I walked out of there with over 12 inches gone! My hair didn’t even touch my shoulder and was to short to put in a ponytail. I was so pissed.

People don’t realize: it’s not the hair, it’s the *time* that goes into the hair vs how little time it takes to destroy it and live without it until/if it grows back.

I do my own hair . I learned how to do my own sew ins, braids, and quick weaves. I’m not good at knotless braids , but I’ll learn like I did everything else. Saves me a lot of money too. All I have to do is worry about buying the hair. If you go to a stylist , only go to one that specializes in natural hair if you’re natural.

Hey loved your story time as a hair stylist I specialize in natural hair care. I hear stories like this all the time. In my personal experience what I’ve learnt is a few things can cause heat damage or your curl to not revert....I believe if you use titanium plate flat irons (bc the heat is similar to volcanic heat) or continuous use of flat iron on dirty hair. And if you’re texture is fine your stylist should understand your hair doesn’t require a lot of direct heat.

I'm a stylist and I have a friend stylist who buys her hot tools from Amazon vs. going to the official site because the price is so inexpensive. Unfortunately, many times those items are bootleg and have been known to tweak out and not be calibrated. If you've gone to her numerous times and that was the first time you lost your curls, it *may* not be her fault- genuinely.

But as this was happening to me and I had to start wearing wigs, all the black women in my life helped me to understand wigs.
    Lace fronts
    Plucking the part
    Applying foundation
    Washing and styling

I'm going to make an assumption based on what was happening to me years and I mean years ago. You may have eczema in your scalp. When the hair, string, glue and other are applied the eczema causes a flare up.

Heat damage is very possible especially with Titanium, best to keep it at around 410, 450 is HIGH.! And how often you straighten it matters as well.
On another note, the damage done to your scalp is insane & why stylist are required to have insurance. You need to sue her (her insurance). There needs to be something done because she can do that to someone else & you should be compensated for pain & suffering & services. Sorry that happened, glad it's healing well.

This is why I didn’t like the elastic band method for full closures when I wore weaves. It can cause serious issues with edges due to abrasion and constant friction.
Sorry you went through all of this.

i’m an electronics engineer (not a lawyer or anything), but there is no way a heat tool would be ul listed for sale in north america if it didn’t have some capacity of overheat protection. sorry, but that hairdresser was either lying about making a mistake or bought a cheap flat iron that wasn’t officially approved for sale in the united states. always look for the UL or CE icons when shopping for electronics so you know the item has been safety tested by someone not influenced by the company profiting from being allowed to sell it.
that being said, i’m really sorry this happened to you and glad you’re doing so much better! i’m also sorry that the medical professionals you saw were not equipped to deal with problems like this that disproportionally affect bipoc. yuck. congrats on your graduation!

Once your scalp is healed, pure sage oil applied every day should bring the hair back. I suffered a chemical burn all around my hair line from a bad relaxer application. I thought my hair would NEVER come back but the sage worked. It smells bad though but the smell was worth the results. Good Luck on your hair journey.

This story is so sad. I hear it, I hear you and I hope you're beginning to realize how you can look cute-er by applying the same styles in different ways. I can relate to you and it may be that you have very sensitive skin. I've had 2 sew-ins in my life both were painful and the first bled. Eventually I used fullwigs and then to half wigs and most ppl don't know when it's in. I don't braid my hair either. It's too itchy and painful.
I'm sorry to hear about the failed wig purchase too. But there are good brands out there like Outre, and Sensationnel. Keep hanging in there 🙂

Yea flat irons can definitely mess up your curls if the heat is up too high it can fry up your hair and some of my cousins even used to have wavy/curly hair they straightened their hair so much it’s straight now. So her flat iron probably overheated or she maybe snuck in relaxer

My daughter went to the mall and allowed this lady selling the newest flat iron to run the flat iron over a section of her hair. That section stayed straight for one year!! My daughter has the same texture hair as you. When the iron is so hot it can sometimes revert the curl pattern, I talked to a professional stylist and she told me that my daughters curl pattern was damaged. It is now all curly again but it's been a few years.

That happened to my sister when we went to the mall one day. A lady was displaying this flat iron and tried it on a section of my sisters hair and my sister liked how it looked, but we didn’t realize how damage d I hair was until she washed her hair and that section didn’t curl back like it should have. My mom had to tell her no on purchasing the iron because she thought that it was fine her hair was like that. It’s been years since that incident do her hair is back to normal.

Hi, it’s so hard to lose hair and you have every right to be upset. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and lupus recently. Well the RA showed up a couple of years ago. I started losing my hair and I couldn’t figure out why. I’m Hispanic and have had hair past my rear all my life. So about 2 months ago they ran tests and it came back that I have lupus also. That’s why I’m losing my hair. I’m only 41 and I’m just devastated about my hair. It’s coming out above my ears on both sides. There isn’t a way to comb it to cover the bald spots.. I’m trying to wear head wraps but I can’t seem to keep them on my head. I did discover the spray color that ppl use to cover up their roots. That’s been super helpful. But ya, it’s so hard to lose ur hair. It hurts my self-esteem it makes me sad every time I look in the mirror.
I really hope yours grows back beautiful and grows back soon. Sorry this happened to you.

Dude I completely relate to this video. I havent been to a stylist since 2012 after a stylist fucked my shit up. I went into the salon with mid-back length 3b/c curls and about 5 inches of relaxed ends. Went in to have them cut off. Well the stylist tyrned the chair around the entire time and when she was done with everything I ENDED UP WIH NECK LENGTH STRAIGHT HAIR THAT WAS FRIED. I went home and cried to my bf cause I knew something was wrong. I washed it and my hair was coming out and looked bine straight relaxed. I had a panic attack because I was a supervisor at Target at the time. TRAUMATIZED, this was before wigs were as big as they are now. I showed up to work like I whole different person. I noticed that you’re soft spoken and really feminine, with a babyface as well. When you’re that people tend to take advantage, thats been my case...especially with black stylist. I will not name the salon nor stylist.
After that I went natural again. and yes I have messed my own hair up several times after this, but its my own doing, I’ve grown, cut, damaged, and coloured my hair as well. My hair went from mid-back to shoulder length. But I tong care anymore because as long as we are healthy hair is abundant. HEALTHY HAIR ITS JUST ISN’T ABOUT HAVING LONG HAIR. Use some fenugreek, collagen, and biotin drops. Use some rice water, and essential oils if your goal is growth and make sure you eat healthy foods, for a healthy body. I’m mixed race i Know the struggle of dealing with texture hair and how much work it could be. Sometimes it feels like an emotionally abuse relationship and other times its beautiful and amazing.

Not everyone knows how to do hair also your a very pretty girl... some people have envy and they super eager to do your hair. That used to happen to me too and I’m cute too I know how I’m perceived and I know my own beauty but I never understood it... I never understood why my hair would always be done and be done bad . Besides the evil eye... your hair type is a big factor. The finer the hair the more your not supposed to put too much tension on the hair so a sew in with your hair type has to be done properly because even the thread could brake the hair and make it shorter ... then you gotta worry about if it’s being cut out properly. If you ever get a weave again you should sew it in yourself .. cuz when it’s time to cut it out all you need is a fine pair of scissors and feel for the thread which is thick enough to feel and cut. I had to learn because even taking it out people would cut too much of my hair but it always is thick and grows fast but still... I noticed no hair came out when I did it myself. You should learn how to do a glueless wig. I learned to make one after paying 400 dollars for a horrible unit that didn’t even fit and I couldn’t deal with sticking that shit to my forehead so learning how t do a glueless and buying the bundles myself was the best thing

Man that is freaking crazy, all of this honestly. I have some heat damage myself and I know how stressful it is when you wash your hair and don't see the curls snap back. Luckily mine isn't like super duper straight, most of it curls but some curls aren't as 4b as they should be and some parts are damaged in the middle of the strands, it looks crazy lol. Anyway, that sew in fiasco is crazy af tho. I'd sue honestly.

  • @thegoldenchild95

I’m going through the same thing with heat damage. I was so devastated because I had just cut off a lot of my hair and revived my curls... I had the same attitude as you and was just like you know what, I’m not even going to stress. So I’ve been transitioning for a couple months doing my own protective styles. I’m also a marketing student and right after I graduate this year I will be going to cosmetology school. So I will not be using heat until I’m the one who can do it! But I loved your story time, I have had so many fails with heat and wigs but I don’t want this comment to go on too much 😂
