    I hope i don't offend anyone, but it seems most current day music listeners get stuck listening to only so-called popular music the top 40. By doing this they are missing out on enjoying music styles such as Manhattan Transfer. Enjoying music sometimes goes along with educating your "hearing palate" just as learning to enjoy different foods. I want to thank you Ty for showing me artists and styles of music I haven't listened to in years. Its so enjoyable to listen and watch these videos through your ears! God Bless.

    When I was younger and in college I made a living singing Jazz acapella in a quartet. This was one of our bread makers. I've always loved this arrangement.

    This is one of my favorite songs, and the best version I've ever heard is by Twiggy. Yes, the 1960s London fashion model Twiggy. I had no idea she could even sing, and was amazed when I came across her recording of Nightingale on RUclips. Check it out sometime.

    Manhattan Transfer were retro experts - they revived lots of old songs (particularly songs from the 1940s, which is when this song was written). A lot of those original cartoons were from that period too, so that explains the similarity. Manhattan Transfer were an acquired taste even in the 1970s and 1980s when they were at their most popular, but those vocal harmonies were excellent.

  • @RTSOB1
    @RTSOB1 5 лет назад

    Thanks. Manhattan Transfer's harmonies are instantly recognizable and ideally suited to a one-mic setup such as you see in this video. Note that they are not individually mic'd up and that means certain harmonies are needed to project well. Interesting that you thought of Christmas carols as they sang. Manhattan Transfer has some of the finest collections of carols that you are likely to hear. When the season rolls around, give them a listen.

    Sometimes you really need things to line up for you at the right times. And music has never failed to do that for me. I've long known of this song, but never actually listened to it. I'm most familiar with the beginning of the lrics, as they're used as part of the closing scenes from Good Omens. I also know and love the Manhatten Transfer, although I haven't listened to as much of their music as I should have. I needed this. Thank you.

    This song was a big hit for Dame Vera Lynn in 1940. For those who do not know she was an English entertainer who kept the spirits of Britain up during World War 2 with her singing. Perhaps Renaissance Man will react to her singing White Cliffs of Dover. Dame Vera by the way is still alive, aged 101.

    VERY late to this reaction! I saw The Manhattan Transfer in concert several times, and when the crowd demanded an encore, they did Tuxedo Junction, which would get the audience stirred up for even more. The musicians would leave, the singers would leave, the audience would stay and make more noise, and the singers would come back out and sing this song. It calmed the people down, and everyone went home. :)

    I agree with Debbie Williamson. As an older subscriber, I thank my parents for exposing my siblings and me to many genres of music. I was a teen in the 1960s and there was a local radio station that played all types of music. Within an hour you could hear songs by The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, The Mills Brothers, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Aretha, The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, anything Motown, Doris Day, etc. I also remember hearing Fingertips, parts 1 and 2 by Little Stevie Wonder on the radio - a treat I highly recommend. About once a month our parents would literally roll back the living room rug and play all kinds of music, ranging from 1915 up to the current day. They brought out the Victrola so we could play the 78's and the record player for the 45's and 33's. Mom and dad taught us how to dance to each type of song from their era and we would teach them how to dance to 'our' music, a tradition that has carried on to this day. I make an effort to listen to every genre I can, though in the car I prefer hard/alternative rock. I am sure you already have recommendations for Pentatonix, but if not, do, please check them out. Their version of Hallelujah. It is one of the best.

    You can tell by the comments - Mickey Mouse, Felix the Cat, "classic sound" - that he simply doesn't have the background or training to comment on this in any serious way.
    It is like me commenting on some old theory in physics. I can pass a superficial asthaetic judgement, but lack the context and vocabulary to really say anything meaningful.

    • @Modern-Renaissance-Man
      @Modern-Renaissance-Man  4 года назад

      Wow! Of course I dont have the background. How old do you think I am?🤣 I wasn't even a sperm cell when this was probably made. Who would have thought that we need "background, training"in REACTING to music. REACTING.......I'll leave you to think about that.

      @@Modern-Renaissance-Man If the "reaction" is going to have only personal value for people who know you and like to see your face change - okay. That is to some extent legit. But if we want to gain insight into the music based on what you say about it, how you react to it, then it matters a great deal. As an example take a complex play in American football. There is a fake, a lateral pass, two penalty flags and on the field and the play ends in a safety. Do I want to watch someone explain what happened and put it into the context of the rules and history of the game of football or embed this play into the context of these teams and these players? Do I want to hear, "Wow, that quarterback never tried that play before, no wonder it went wrong - and the penalty was the guy who threw that lateral pass - a rare move in football - moving too early on the hike." Or do I want to watch someone who didn't even notice the flags or the score say, "Gee, that one guy in the front sure got knocked over on that block and it sure looks impressive how that other guy caught the ball"? My reaction to, say, drag racing would be similar. I wouldn't notice how any race is much different from another, nor would I be able to tell why one car won and the other lost, nor would I know if either driver was doing anything at all interesting. I'd just say, "Wow, that was loud! Gee, a yellow car!" and smile at the big wheels and the flames shooting out. But that is why I wouldn't post a vid of me reacting to a drag race.

'i'd rather be the devil live 1973' is a good place to start. 'small hours' live 1978' is a calm and hauntingly beautiful love song. the other act is a classical 'crossover' singer called katherine jenkins, from my home country called wales. her cover of 'everything i do' is so beautiful. i want to promote both of these artists as much as possible before i die. i hope you'll react to them for me, even though i'm not a patron. i thank you in anticipation
