*Thank you so much for watching.* What do you think of the old vs. new generations of LPS? Which version do you prefer? This topic was pretty interesting for me to research so I hope you could learn something new in this video too.
I grew up in Cincinnati in the 1990's, I had all the original Littlest Pet Shop. I remember most kids having them, so it's a shock to hear it being called The forgotten generation, I hope that one day we get re-releases of The Originals. I did collect some of the new ones but I always have a soft spot the Kenner versions especially the box art just seems so wholesome. Maybe the older ones didn't catch on outside of the Midwest.
As a geriatric millennial who only remembers the “forgotten” LPS because I was already well into high school when the big-headed versions came out, thank you for this video. Now please excuse me while I go turn into dust in a corner.
Replying to my own comment to add that you are absolutely right that the main appeal of these toys was in the interaction between the pet and the playset. They were more like Polly Pocket than Barbie, if that makes sense - you were collecting the sets, not the pets. Also, the early sets were designed to fit into the shelves of the pet shop case (seen at 5:15) in a variety of ways so you could furnish your own pet shop. Hence the name of the franchise. The purple counter doubles as a storage system for loose bits and pieces that don’t fit into the enclosures when shelved. Obviously, this idea was abandoned after a while, and by the time they started releasing horses (who I remember dominating the line in its latter days) it was long gone. Ah, I need to go find them in the attic now. I collected a LOT of the early years of the line as a kid, and as far as I know I still have them all.
This was really informative! I'll probably never collect kenner lps but I can definitely see the appeal. It's interesting how both kenner and hasbro made such random modifications for their lps releases in japan specifically, I wonder what the reason for that is. 2:53 Idk why but the way it just says "we're babies" is so funny to me
I always thought I was too young for the first generation of LPS, but the image of the pink and white cat McDonald’s pet shown at 7:58 slapped me in the face with nostalgia. I had that exact pet and actually played with it quite a bit, but I have no clue where it is now. Probably gave it away in a garage sale or goodwill.
I enjoyed watching this informative deep dive of lps and their history. I only remember G1 and G2 lps as they were my childhood. I remember going to the dollar store and buying them. There would be so many sets. It makes me super happy that Basic Fun is finally listening to the majority of LPS collectors and bringing them back!
I was born in 2004, so naturally, I experienced the G2 LPS. It’s interesting to think about how we view G2 LPS as “the old LPS”, whereas 80’s and 90’s kids probably view the Kenner pets as the old LPS, and the G2 pets are the newer ones they didn’t grow up with. The Kenner pets are kind of cute, but I don’t want any of them. At first, I guess I thought they were just regular, standard animal toys, but it’s interesting to learn about all the different interactive features they had. I also thought it was interesting to see the regional differences, as a language nerd. 😅 I loved this video! It helped me to learn more about the history of Littlest Pet Shop. I didn’t know much about Kenner LPS prior to watching this video, so you did a great job educating about it! The editing is great and this video was very interesting. I always really enjoy your videos. Your channel is so fun and interesting. ❤️
thank you I'm very glad to hear that :) I hadn't thought about the perspectives like that, it's pretty interesting to look at it that way. I liked learning about regional differences too, I studied Japanese so I thought it was cool to come across some of those old commercials and LPS.
I grew up with the Kenner LPS I still have some of my childhood ones. I remember being excited about LPS being re-introduced when I was in high school then so disappointed at how different they looked and felt it might as well just be a totally different IP
Oh wow I had no clue that koala was a mail order pet. Also, amazing video as always! This is probably one of my favorite of yours so far The stuff about the Blythe dolls was also super interesting. I had no clue she was a separate brand, but it makes perfect sense because Hasbro is known for doing brand merges with their properties
thank you I appreciate that :) And yeah the koala is a pretty cool one. They didn't change too much from the original blythe design-wise which might be why a lot of people ended up not liking the doll lol but I still thought it was interesting
Old lps were so cheep. Now when I tell my dad why they are so expensive, he said," if something is discontinued it will become cheaper". And I said no not with lps. I don't know why though
ah I can see that, they are sorta similar. I think I've accidentally ended up with one or two of those polly pocket pets over the years from people throwing them in with LPS lots on ebay so they probably thought those were LPS too
omg, I got the kenner littlest pet shop game (came with 4 of those original pets) in like 1994 as a little kid and i loved them. but seeing the explosion of hasbro lps online made me wonder if i was going crazy and misremembered what they looked like... ty this unlocked deep memories omg
11:26 Unrelated to the Kenner pets, but the market for gen 1 and 2 lps has been so bad for the entire time I’ve been into lps, even as a little kid I automatically assumed I’d be buying fakes off of eBay for the rest of my days 😭 but last night I literally managed to find an AUTHENTIC golden retriever 21 (one of my all time FAVORITES) for 6 BUCKS WITH THE ORIGINAL ACCESSORIES!!! I WAS LEGIT FROTHING AT THE MOUTH WHEN MY MOM AGREED TO GET IT FOR CHRISTMAS
I love how your videos are so educational/well researched. Makes me wonder how you do in research in things like school haha/university How do you research? It's okay if you don't want to specify, it's just fascinating to me. Also!! Your setup is soooooo professional, what camera/lighting do you use O:
thank you! For research I used a few vintage LPS collector guides I came across like vintagelpscollector.com or littlestpetshop.50webs.com, and for Hasbro LPS I use the database on lpsmerch.com. I film with a Nikon D5300 camera and use softboxes from amazon for lights. :)

The Gen 1 LPS were how I became a toy collector! I used to have a bunch of Barbies, and other things, but gave them up to my younger sister as soon as these caught my attention. My favorite sets were the Sea World playsets! I had all of them! ☺️🐬🐳 Sadly, all my LPS were in a giant toy box, that got lost in a move… Otherwise I would still have them. I thought of collecting them all again, but it’s too expensive, and I’d rather just save up for the new Gen7 pets. 😊💕🐶🐹🐰
I sold my entire g2 LPS collection for like less than 10 dollars back in 2012 and it pains me to know how much collectors are willing to spend on them now
*Thank you so much for watching.* What do you think of the old vs. new generations of LPS? Which version do you prefer? This topic was pretty interesting for me to research so I hope you could learn something new in this video too.
I can’t wait for them to come back again!! My childhood
If they bring it back, is that means that they'll reboot or continuation of littlest pet shop cartoons?
I grew up in Cincinnati in the 1990's, I had all the original Littlest Pet Shop. Way to young making a video i think 😂 theyre not forgotten

Same, and I`m sort of a collector of the original. The cat and husky lake house playsets were my fave as a kid.
I was just thinking about the Kenner pets the other day!! I’m so glad you made a video on this!
thank you! It was pretty interesting to look into it

lol I like to think whoever edited that commercial was like "welp gotta fill the space somehow" and just put the text there stating the obvious

@@veronicanovak8646 That’s how I thought people in the Kenner generation probably viewed them. Thank you for sharing that!
No it is G1 not g2! Kenner Pets? Then it’s just a different toy
Oh wow I had no clue that koala was a mail order pet. Also, amazing video as always! This is probably one of my favorite of yours so far
The stuff about the Blythe dolls was also super interesting. I had no clue she was a separate brand, but it makes perfect sense because Hasbro is known for doing brand merges with their properties

Only a few more months until the new ones come out, it’s going to be crazy! 💕
Yeah I am excited! ❤
Looking forward to it
I think the old polly pocket pets from 2000s had very similar faces to the old Kenner lps?? i swear the eyes are almost the same
ah I can see that, they are sorta similar. I think I've accidentally ended up with one or two of those polly pocket pets over the years from people throwing them in with LPS lots on ebay so they probably thought those were LPS too
I’m so sad that I sold all my LPS. I used to make music videos. RIP MintLPSchannel

Great video! I always wanted to learn more about Kenner Lps. BUT OMD Your editing is always 10/10
thank you!
I think the original lps are pretty charming! Maybe one day ill get some. But they arent as easy to find as the 2000's lps are
A few years ago I went to a yard sell and got a bag full of g1 LPS they're soooOoO cute
I love how your videos are so educational/well researched.

I hope that basic fun brings back the old LPs generation 2
My mother has several of them, they honestly aren’t bad.
I think I did have those dolls. I had the 2017 ones but it would be fun to have the old ones before!
This is how I get information about littlest pet shops

The forgotten generation lmao 😂
Don’t lead lies, that makes no sense
I sold my entire g2 LPS collection for like less than 10 dollars back in 2012 and it pains me to know how much collectors are willing to spend on them now
