The prison (or as it's called internally detention center) is really just meant to be a landmark or set dressing, there's nothing in the game that would ever suggest otherwise, no cut content to be found anywhere, which is usually not the case.
Also not many modelers worked on this specifically, as CDPR and many game studios use so called "kit-bash" technique, where you have premade general purpose sections like walls, floors etc... and they build stuff from it, there's not a signle prison specific model made for the game except for the "NC PRISON" sign... but obviously even just building the stuff from pre-made asets would take some time... so it's probably like a week of work worth for one person (excluding all the paperwork and planning ahead of time)
And since there's nothing cut, their work has been worth it as others have said

For Cyberpunk 2, they need to take this world here that they have already created and continue to refine and flesh out areas like these that they obviously had plans for that got cut short. With CDPR moving to a new engine for the next game, I'm worried they'll have to start from scratch and run into the same time crunch problems that the first game did.

    • @mexamrc

I don't know how game developing works but I don't think they will have to start from scratch. They'll have to redo the entire map again but they do have the blue print with 2077 so now it'll just look better!
I really hope they just add more things for us to do that help expand the world, like actually being able to use BDs without it being tied to any quest or gig.

@@mexamrcthe blueprint they currently have for the map is from the red engine, the engine they've used for the witcher games for years, moving to a new engine like unreal is completely starting from scratch with making the map it'd be like they have to do it from memory or look at the two games side by side and model the new one after the old one. It's not like a drag and drop into the new engine it's a lot of work. Remaking all textures, barriers, and collision for the ground.

I think people need to realize that Night City is a city within the lore of cyperpunk and when they were developing the game the first plan of attack was to build a believable night city that the player can become immersed in. Just because a building or area doesnt have a mission connected to it doesnt mean its "cut content". The city is the content. V's story isnt Night City's story. It was around way before V and will be around way after. These areas and buildings have a purpose even if they serve no purpose for V.

An oubliette is a hole, just big enough for a single person to stand up. You can't even sit, let alone lay down, and usually people were dumped in there and forgotten about.

I love these videos, however I do think that at a certain point people are just phishing for things to label as cut content. Some things are just made for atmosphere and worldbuilding, and that's okay. If they didn't include some of these shell buildings, people would say the world wasn't fleshed out. Some of my favorite CP2077 videos to watch are the ones where people tour the city and just walk through the streets, so I appreciate the fact that they put the prison and Petrochem facility in that block instead of another chunk of megabuilding city stuff; it adds to the variety and realism of the world, even if it's not playable.

"That prison played a part in River's (who was called Sobchak back then) main quests, however later those were replaced by Takemura's storyline. It wasn't a big part, since we were only supposed to visit this location twice to talk with NPC's, but fairly crucial in terms of narrative. In the first prison scene V and River interrogated a witness and in the second one they would return to talk with a psychologist who was taking care of said witness.
After Takemura's introduction, that River main quest was partially merged with a sidequest about Lucius Rhyne's investigation (River, in fact, didn't appear at all in the old version of that sidequest). Since the main storyline was rewritten around inclusion of Goro, that prison location was simply no longer needed (outside of one of the possible River's endings). The main reason behind that change seems to be that developers decided the Arasaka storyline would work better narratively by having a Corpo character as V's "partner", as well as incorporating some general changes they made to Arasaka's plotline (for example, in the older version Hanako was more of an antagonist, rather then potential ally/wolf in sheep's clothing)." Also - theres a prison suited river inside gamefiles

The team or dev in charge of this area was likely told to design it with the possibility of gameplay, which obviously never came to be. I wouldn't be surprised if every part of Night City was meant to be playable in the GDD, but when it came time to actually make the game, they had to pick and choose. They probably future-proofed this area in the hopes of DLC content.

    • @Yusuke_Denton
      @Yusuke_Denton Год назад +3

Yeah pretty sure that's how they did it. Generate the playable area, have different artists work on different areas and fill in EVERYTHING with a believable city, but in low-definition, and then when it came to deciding actual gig locations, adding more details to those areas. A final pass would have chosen the final locations for further development and cut previous locations, which were then culled if necessary or just walled off.

ah thank you for covering this part of the map! I stumbled upon this part recently and tried seeing if I could break in. I blasted a bunch of quickhacks onto the people at one of the entrances and I started to notice there was a mix between prisoners (with guns for some reason) and some police in the back. The further I went to explore I notice a riot at a different block of the prison with a line of policemen. This prison gave me the same vibe as the Arasaka water front in being a pretty big unfinished area. As for what purpose it was supposed to serve? Well only thing I can think of directly is Joshua Sephenson who was wearing a prison jumpsuit. This is a very shallow similarity but maybe there was a scenario where you'd end up with him being sent back and you having to visit him? Other things I can think of is having the ncpd dispatches tie into this just like the ncpd building next to your megabuilding's entrance. This is just speculation, there's literally no indication of anything beyond what we see as it is and maybe it was never really intended to be fully fledged.

A Panopticon-type prison common in the US and Britain in the 18th and 19th Century. A job like that would be great for stealth players looking to avoid guards 360* around. Maybe find the perp and carry them out all without being seen, using cameras, etc. Dishonored, Knife of Dunwall gave us that with Coldridge Prison. Pitty there are so many possibilities with Cyberpunk.

My only guess was that they originally planned to make a gig or side missions related to this place. maybe even add a feature where V goes to prison. But figured it would've costed too much time, money and probably too much for consoles to handle with everything else included.
They probably had to pick and choose what to add and the prison was cut for those reasons. So they never went any farther than what we see now.

I'm surprised you didn't show how you can easily break into and out of w/out the use of no clip! You can easily drive a truck/van over to one corner and double jump over the fence. I farm the security guards there pretty often, even on the hardest difficulty you can easily work your way around the prison grounds and wipe them all out. Plus it's a pretty fun environment to stand off with the police because more than half the time they will just spawn outside of the walls on the street where you can pick them off.

lmao i remember seeing the prisons and getting curious about them, so i used the big jump upgrade and parkour to get inside the fences just to find it completely empty. after that i just went around to the other prisons just murdering gaurds for fun

Wish we could've have missions here!
    Check out Mega building H2!
It's so dense and vertical that it looks like they meant to have an apartment there, and a bunch of missions.
That area alone could be it's on dlc like all these buildings

My theory is that there was never any plans to flesh out this prison in any way. I think the amount it is detailed and the fact that NPCs spawn within the prison yard is a holdover from plans to have the metro be a usable thing. You can see one of the lines goes right over part of the prison, and another line goes near by. Both would have easy sightlines into the prison yard, and be close enough that there would need to be NPCs visible within the grounds, but not close enough to need things to be too detailed or dynamic.

Would've been cool to have a gig or little side story where you have to steal a guard's ID card/identity, get into the cell block and smuggle some prisoner outta there, something along those lines... "Don't mind me fellas, just gotta transport this prisoner to his court appearance". I totally get that not every part of this game, or any game for that matter, is gonna be fully detailed and explorable but man, Night City is just such a beautiful world that I want every bit of it to be explorable. In the beginning of the street kid lifepath, Jacky does mention the prison, something about it being a "standing room only nowadays" if my memory serves correct. It seems so small for a prison in a city full of criminals...

You know, I actually stumbled across this without even realising what it was, just seeing it from ground level trying to lose the Police. I then got shot at by the guards on the other side of the gate and basically spent the next 10 minutes shooting it out, and then hightailing it as Police started swarming me - again.

I believe that alot of the building that are included into night city. Even though they do not have missions or gig. The devs used these buildings in their hidden quest line. Depending on the area or Corp that might own it. These buildings hold energy sources. That the player would need to find and unlock. So general sense is they have made 2 games in 1. One is have fun being this awesome killing machine. The other is a brain squeeze that you need to figure out on your own.

I hope they do some more free DLCs without fancy actors. Just quest content and extra territory. Just expand the content before the heist, so we get more time with Jacky and T-Bug.
Simply more testing jobs from Dex before he lets you do anything related to the heist.
Do four to five jobs for him and then he lets you in on the actual jobs. So his betrayal is even more bitter.
