I've fished this area of the Delaware River for over 35 years and lemme just say that this type of productivity might be common from a boat, but certainly not while wading swift currents on ultra slippery rocks, not to mention the challenging overgrown shoreline. I've Always enjoyed this dude's skill level.

I grew up fishing shad on that river. I will share the best way to cook them. you need a 3/4" x 12" x 8" piece of Oak, lay the whole fish on Oak and bake at 350 degrees for 3 hours. let it cool, toss the fish in the trash and eat the Oak board. )

23.55 going through the brush to get to a small open spot on the shore brought back memories of doing the same trout fishing in Northern NJ.

Man is it good to finally see a video of you back on the river! It’s been too long. Miss the old days of you smashing muskies and walleye on the river. Learned a whole ton from your videos in the early days on your channel. Miss flathead fridays a whole ton! Glad to see you back at it!

Had a dude next to me hook a mid 30” musky on a flutter spoon in reiglesville a couple years ago. And I’ve gotten small Stripers, walleye, quill backs and smallies on them.
Buddy of mine got a nice tiger trout a few weeks ago in the area you were in. And I saw a large brown caught too. The big D has everything.

We were one the boats anchored bt the bridge at new hope that day, the fishing was fantastic. I used to fish for these on the West Coast, we never used spoons or darts....funny how the rigs are so different.

Shad was a big industry along the Connecticut River here in New England. From Mothers Days to Fathers Day there are fish viewing stations which are underground with windows facing the river in Holyoke and Turner Falls, Massachusetts. They update the number of species that pass thru the fish ladder everyday. Great place to bring your children to learn about nature.

The best bait for American White Shad is the jig head with a chartreuse 2-3" curly tail.. That is all we use here in Eastern NC and we are still wearing them out right now.

Nice video bro! I enjoyed watching! You should try some kietech paddle tails on the Delaware. I used to beat on smallies using kietechs in Cochecton NY. 3/16 heads. Stripers have been challenging this past winter/ spring for a lot of my friends. Shad roe used to be considered a delicacy by many people back in the days.

I nymph a cold water release tributary to the Delaware. The shad are always running every spring. You can see them in the water. They are a bluish grey color. I’ve hooked several on a 3wt rod. They are extremely powerful fish!

Best way to cook shad! #1-Prepare shad and place on a cedar board. #2 Place cedar board with shad on open fire. #3- wait 5 to 7 minutes to cook. #4- remove cedar board and shad from fire and let cool for 5 minutes. #6-throw shad in the garbage and eat cedar board.

Central Pennsylvania is Pennsyltucky not the East Coast. It’s the Pennsylvania Rifle;Lancaster Rifle and Kentucky Rifle that gives the area that name. It’s got nothing to do with fishing the Delaware river. Though they have a festival every year.

Ain’t that what George Washington and his troops feasted on after about starving to death that winter? And then the American shad run happened on the Delaware and saved them all! It was either those or the hickory.. anyhow, cool deal bud! 👍👍🤙🏻✌🏻, looks like good catfish bait to me, either of those, although you probably couldn’t do that up there, people would pitch a fit!
