@@freeautoinsurance365 Indeed - in the UK we were lucky compared to the rest of Europe because we had official imports of the HSV Maloo, the HSV Coupe (as the Vauxhall Monaro), the HSV Clubsport and HSV GTS (the latter two badged as the Vauxhall VXR8). All the motoring journos and petrolheads loved them. What they struggled with here was that we have pretty stringent emissions taxing on new cars, combined with rules on company cars pushing company car drivers towards getting something that looks brawny but really has an engine of 2 litres or less, often diesel. So that meant the only people buying them were private buyers. On top of that, the costs were pushed up by there being a 10% import duty on cars from outside the EU. Not sure if the EU has a double-taxation treaty with Australia but if not that's an additional 20% for purchase tax (VAT). So instead of competing at a price point against Ford, VW etc, they were being marketed as a slightly-cheaper alternative to an AMG or M-car, where spare parts might take a long time to deliver from the other side of the planet. I remember a VXR8 was about £55k new at a time when an E63 could be had for around £70k new. I read that in Australia they have similar rules that make AMGs and M-cars obscenely expensive compared to Europe too!

THATS BADASS! I'M A GEARHEAD MYSELF AND THE SHOP OWNER OF STEPHENS MOTORSPORTS. I HOPE YOU DECIDE TO KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY? CAR FAMILIES STAY TOGETHER! GODBLESS YOU
Blimey, a ZT 260 auto? I didn't know they'd even built the one! Did it come from the factory that way or did he transplant bits from the Rover 75 V8? My dad was about to buy a ZT-T 260 when it all went wrong at Longbridge... He'd had one (red with an X-Power exhaust... sounded lovely!) as a tester for the weekend and was mulling whether he could deal with the fuel consumption, and that week they announced MG Rover was going into administration. Damn.
donkmeister It’s got an interesting story to say the least! If I’m correct, it started out as a regular 190 ZT which was pulled off of the production line as it was being made, and turned into a 260. It was used as a test bed for various things like a quieter exhaust, how the redone rear suspension coped and a few other things. For the testing they did with it, they took it to Canada, Australia, Italy or Greece I think and a few other countries I think too. When it arrived back at Longbridge, they were doing planning for the Rover 75 V8, so they then turned that 260 ZT into a V8 75, so it gained the 4 speed auto, wooden interior and 75 seats. After the testing for that, they turned the exterior back into a ZT again but left all the 75 bits inside, along with the auto box. Someone then had the idea of making a ZT 260 auto which would be good for Australia as they like their lazy autos there. The idea was then dropped and the car was taken to a dealership and dumped around the back of it, where it was stripped for spares. Someone my dad’s friend knew bought the car, which by now only had the driver’s seat and rear bumper left on it, I believe the IPK unit and the gauges were still in too as well as some of the dash, though everything else was taken off as spares. The bloke then spent about £20000 rebuilding the car and my dad’s friend helped with that. As of now, the car only has 9000 or so miles on it, and since another engine had to be sourced, the engine has about 100 or so miles on it. The gearbox rattles though, suspected a bolt has come loose inside so that needs to be addressed. Interior is mismatched in places so that needs sorting. The build number for the car is 007, so of course dad has decided to buy some James Bond stickers for it and a cutout of Rodger Moore to go with the car. Coincidentally the car is in the colour anthracite, so it’s basically in black too!
@ins numbers Literally went to Longbridge earlier today, Most of the old factory is gone, the main bit that remains is the conference centre where they sell the current Chinese made models

Not with these ones they don't... Current AMGs and M-cars aren't homologated for towing in Europe. In some European countries you can get an expensive engineering report done that might clear you to tow with your car only, I don't believe Germany allows that though. The V10 M5 could be used for towing, and the AMG ML63 too. Apart from that... Nope.
Just an FYI for future reference: the CTS-V and HSV Tourer are powered by the LSA motor. It’s basically the LS3, but it’s supercharged. Just thought you should know
The robotic gearbox of the M5 with its original engine wasn't known for its great longevity, but with the 2 compressors, I wonder how many kilometers you could do with a broken one?

MG short lived? Founded 21 July 1930. 89 years ago.
Think he meant MG-Rover
By the early 1980's, the MG badge was just a name applied to other brands of cars.
Wth? MG had a newer line of cars? Damn American bubble I live in, I only saw MG's from 60's & 70's
Yep. They had a partnership with Honda for a while in the 90's. Now their owned by Nanjing Automobile Group in china.
Bmw was the first to bring out a powerwagon with the m5 e34 which came before the first audi avant rs
It's nice to see a Subaru between 1000hp beasts.
Not sure about MG being short lived as they were around 1924 until 2005. Just sayin', like your vids though.
