Well if i compare my jetta ang my golf they both got 170hp under the hood, but the jetta had a 2.5 5 cylinders n/a, but the golf has a 1.8 turbo 4 cylinders. The power of the 1.8 come much more early compared to the linear powerband of the 2.5. It’s like instant torque from 1500rpm all way through the redline. In my opinion, the 1.8 feel more powerful, but it’s just a matter of how the powerband is. Back to the Viper, if we compare it to a corvette zr1 from that era, the zr1 had almost 400 hp but in a smaller engine that reved around 7000 rpm i think. The viper had a much bigger engine with a little bit more power, but a ton of torque and the power was available from the very low rpm. It’s all about the low rpm power and torque.
well 400 is also underrated and they made that number at the wheels regularly bone stock. mild modifications were plentiful, easy and resulted in over 500 crank horsepower easily even back in the day. Oh and not to mention the low weight
Mitsubishi was one of the best car manufacturers in the past. They were very innovative. Smallest V6, first gasoline direct injection, lean burn on carburator engine, 8 speed manual transmissions in the '80 - this all was Mitsubishi. Their 4G63 engine is one of the most famous engines in the history of motorsport/performance to this day.
I'd rather listen to a Sauber Mercedes C11 group C car. Or a Vacuum Cleaner. Or modern F1 engines. Maybe a Tesla. I also prefer dog barking at 3am to an LFA.

You can find also the previous version (NA) on the normal 500, mito, bravo, punto...

The engine can handle 700hp on stock internals, just like the 2jz, and makes 360hp at the wheels, even though it's advertised as 340hp at the crank. They only got lazy on the interior in my opinion, where they didn't change anything at all.

It was a real hit, got a turbo version, and went down in history as a tuner's dream.

But in Mk2 (C5 "X7") all trims (sedan/wagon) and engines were available as Carlsson tuning only was a body kit anymore...

Lamborghini did help redesign the Dodge V-10 iron block truck motor, but Chrysler owned Lamborghini at the time. Since the Lamborghini engineers weren’t that busy, Chrysler felt it made more sense to have them help with the conversion. The same goes for the Alfa Romero, both we’re owned by FCA at the time. If you wanted to use a FCA car, you should have used the Fiat 124 and the new Mazda Miata. Same vehicle except for the engine/drivetrain and a different wheel base. It was co developed by both companies. So technically, they helped each other out.
No Volvos? It's not well known but Porsche was involved in the design of the 16v head for the 4 pots "redblock" engine. They also tuned the later 5 cylinders for the 850R. Yamaha also developed and built the V8 of the XC90 and the S80, an engine which was also used in the Yamaha lineup of marine *outboard* engine. Yup, 4.4l V8 outboard engine, please.
People should stop the Supra hate, as its very likely that there wont be another one. Maybe in a form of an SUV or crossover. Look no further than Mitsubishi Eclipse. Damn when I hear SUV, I have a strong urge to spit, could use a wiper on my monitor :)

People should stop the Supra hate, as its very likely that there wont be another one. Maybe in a form of an SUV or crossover. Look no further than Mitsubishi Eclipse. Damn when I hear SUV, I have a strong urge to spit, could use a wiper on my monitor :)
SUVs are shit, yeah. The eclipse cross is just a slap in the face of the original eclipse. And I don't think the next supra is going to be gasoline only, there simply isn't enough time.
People need to realize just how hard it is for a manufacturer to bring a new model out, or one back from the dead. Esp if planning to sell it in the US with all our crazy safety & emissions standards. When it is something niche like the Supra which will never move in units like a corolla or camry it is a MONUMENTAL RISK for them to devote years & millions of $ to its development. They brought back a straight 6 turbo option. THIS CAR WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IN 2020 WITHOUT HELP FROM BMW

I think Nissan keeps a Skyline with a Ferrari engine in the museum because the engine has become part of the identity of the car. Ferrari also maintains the engine I think.
