I’ve read stories on some Honda’s with ECU’s that have measured figures up to 26,000 rpm sometimes
@@debillington9239 what? are those cars 2-strokes?
Kaptein Nah man, it’s nicknamed the money shift. It’s when you downshift an amount too many gears, forces the engine to rev crazily high
Leave it to the Germans to build a car that needs a guy with an actual fire extinguisher in order for it not to set the ground on fire
Can you imagine the drive to work in that thing??? Just a wake of fire and devastation as you cruse along.
In that German car, you would have to waste a $30 fire extinguisher just to idle that thing for 20 minutes.

Honestly why didn't they just put down a ceramic plate under it to catch the flames. If I owned that I'd carry one around with me. Honestly though I didn't get that. Maybe they didn't think of it?
Missed one!! The Blitzen Benz broke the land speed record doing 141 MPH, with a max engine speed of 1400 rpm. Not surprising, because the 4 cylinder engine was 21.5 litres in capacity!!
Who needs revs when you have literally shower's worth of displacement.
It actually held the overall speed record for a while because even planes were slower at this point of time.
@@thomashaack1933 very true.
@@nodo7575 fair comment. Just one thing you might be interested in knowing. That Benz engine had so much torque, it could drive away from a standing start in top gear, without stalling the engine.

@Jeff Thompson if i remember right the Viper V10 was designed in collaboration with Lamborghini ,, the Viper V10 is all aluminum ,, the later Magnum V10 truck engine was cast iron ,and contrary to the name Magnum the dodge V10 does NOT share any components with the Magnum V8 engines

@@TIMEtoRIDE900 add a little traction control and better tires, and I'd like to see a video about that. The brutus has roughly 1000Nm more torque than the Veyron.
Btw, the Veyron is actually german-made, too. Just like the Brutus.
@@JohnM4jc all the traction in the world wouldnt help the fact that the chiron has more power. use all the crank tq you want, but you cant break the rules of physics. hp wins. to even think they would compete in the same league is not even fucking funny. comparing a car that brags about being able to comfortable cruise at over 62 mph, to a car that govers well over 200mph is a joke. i really hope you aint seriously thinking that these two cars compare. like, at all
@@chaztitan6457 hp never wins proper gear config always win also Brutus uses a airplane/tank engine if it was put in a aero dynamic chasis and had modern tuning and gearing it could in theory beat the Bugatti.
@@xxzenonionnex7658 it would not beat the bugatti for this simply fact. The brutus's engine produces less energy output that the w16 in the bugatti. Pushing air, moving gears etc require energy to do so. This seemingly common sense idea, seems to escape people constantly. to pull weight faster, to accelerate faster all requires more energy than what you had before to "be faster, move more" etc. gearing is a major part, but without energy to use, gearing is unimportant. and hp always wins. only time hp may not look like it won, is when you are in a race where hp out on average is what determines the winner. like a circuit race etc. but in a drag race where you are on the accelerator the whole time. it would be impossible for a car whose output was 1000hp the whole time, to loose to the same car whose output was less than 1000hp. if 1000hp was not as quick as another 1000hp simply because of tq output or gearing then 1. you could win a nobel peace prize and turn physics on its head, or 2. you simply dont understand the whole concept of what hp actually means and how its used
You should do the best sounding hemispherical head engines.
Short answear, they are not hemis, they are kidney shaped ;) The headspace is like a bathtub and the piston has a high ridge in the middle.
@@TheEsseboy That wasn't the question, was it?
Air-cooled Porsche 911 engine. Finished.
@@TheEsseboy Long answer: What? Why are you "correcting" something that wasn't even relevant to the question?
For example:
Me: "Do a video about the fastest trikes".
You: "Those aren't trikes ;). They have four wheels with independent suspension at all four corners".
Even if you were "correcting" him on the actual shape of a hemispherical head, the common parlance of hemispherical is enough to convey what he meant as you clearly recognized what he's talking about. Odd.
Hemi 6 in the aussie vallient chargers
Aviation engines are very low revving. I once flew in a single-engine jalopy that had a 6 liter boxer 4, making all of 180 horsepower but 400 foot-lbs of torque. 3000 was max RPM but cruising was 2000.
Yeah the propellers are usually mounted straight into them, no gearbox or anything, hence so slow compared to car engines (optimized for the task after all). Some of the bigger V12s from WWII did have reduction tho, given the propellers were so huge.
They are also designed to run at high power settings without complaining.
Many planes have a mandatory rebuild if they exceed 3000 rpm
Have to keep the prop speed down as well if spun too fast they quit working or worse self destruct
9:00 that guy in the center-left behind the man with the caqui suit is having the best day of his life.

I love those old purpose built land speed cars. I can see the talk now between a couple of guys over a few beers, “What happens if we take this big airplane engine and slap it on a chassis?”
My brother and I traded a Chevy Suburban with a blown transfer case and a bazillion miles that we had gotten for 500 bucks for a 96 Econoline van with a 300 straight six and a 3 speed C6 transmission. The guys we traded with knew what they were getting, and I'm not sure why they wanted to do it, because we've been using it as a work van for years after building out the back with shelves for our tools, and a bulkhead to keep everything in place. Was just at my parents house building a fence yesterday, and their neighbor has a Chevy truck with the Vortec 8100. 2 of the engines on this list right next to each other and I didn't even appreciate it!
9:29 wow pretty cool seeing a guy driving these cars on the limit like you would see in the old timey races. Typically they putt them around because they're so valuable. Not to mention they are rolling death traps.
I've seen the Darracq and the Fiat at the hill climb near where my house is.
I love the guy with the fire extinguisher.
theres some tractors that idle at 0 rpm by having the crank shaft not do a full rotation and because of the way the idling works the engine can run backwards
Been watching your content for years. Please keep creating awesome videos, they are always super entertaining!
It’s clear that the Cars sets fire to grass and anything flammable below the exhaust so instead of carrying a fire blanket to lay out they carry a fire extinguisher... thrifty.
It would be nice to see of the old Wisconsin engine mounted on a car. Some of those only maxed out at 900 RPM. Tons of torque though.
I can smell the exhaust through the screen.... mmmm smells like power!
Still not as slow as my worn out car with no compression in cylinder 3.
Only cyl. 3? Pathetic.
Here’s one you missed: The Mack 707, 707 cubic inches of inline 6 that idles at 350 RPM and redlines at either 2500 or 2600 RPM. It’s got dual distributors, dual sets of ignition coils, all combined to make 250 BHP and an immense amount of torque. They were put in Mack firetrucks from the 40s to the 70s and Mack semi trucks in the 50s.
Mark Walker, who built the Darracq has put together or restored a number of very low revving cars over the last 30 years. My favourite is the GN Thunderbug with a 5.2 litre Vee twin built on a very early Riley crankcase. For the Brits Mark is one of the family that founded Walkers Crisps in Leicester.
Good video, nice sound on all the clips!
Another engine you could add to the list: the AMC straight-6, a fantastic torquey little motor, known most commonly in its 4.0L Jeep form. It has a 4500 rpm redline, and makes most of its power from 3-4k
Nice vid
Who else is glad to see visoracer back on RUclips?
17:50 Well, that's one way to constantly troll "greenies", and the fire department.
I love seeing the old race rockets. So cool.
These are the antithesis of what I like about cars but the old ones are fantastic to see!
Another significant limit on the rev limit on engines is the speed the piston is moving at inside the cylinders, very few engines are able to get past the 25 meters/s 'barrier'
Loved how a couple of the old cars with the aero engines had so much torque that they either roasted the tires or made the car "squirrelly" when the throttle was applied.
The Napier Railton: In terms of Brakes, we have no brakes... or grip... or sanity
Nice video. Just one request please try and level out the volume throughout the video. Also thanks for helping me get some ideas on what I want to do with my first project car
The V10s sounds kinda beautiful.
Even at the low rpm
Especially inside
122 MPH in what is essential a "flying chair". Now that takes balls.
Man these are the videos I love the most
0:50 - that’s a proper starter motor!
What about some of the old tractors from the early 20th century, some of those things wouldn't spin faster than 400 rpm.
These were all very nice, but we must not forget the "Mavis" Bentley-Packard- Monoposto V12! - it is a terrible monster!!
16 cylinders and 160 hp?
Wow how far we've come in terms of IC technology
Now 3 cylinders turbos can make 160 hp
Ford Triton V10 still seen around my place today. Used in campers too.
The Brutus fireman really needed a water extinguisher to keep the grass from re-igniting every few seconds ;-)
rev limit is mainly about bore to stroke ratio. f1 cars and motorcyles have much higher rpm than a normal car. they have big bore but small stroke so they need to have a lot of rpm to produce enough power. the piston basically moves up and down more quicker because there isnt a long travel distance sort to speak (if its easier to imagine).
engine displacement is the other reason. larger engines dont rev as high. the biggest engine of a boat idk 64l or so just revs to 600 or so cant remember the exact numbers but you get the idea
I'm so excited the Ford 300 six was included. My buddy idled his down to about 50 rpm before it choked off
Awesome video, one of my favorites 100%.
Imagine that BMW 12 cylinder tuned up to 7,500rpm!! Id be a beast
Everyone talks about their HP, these all show the importance of torque.
I’m going to really miss my F150 with the 300 in it. I had to get a 4x4 diesel for where I’m moving to, but it will never be as easy to run maintain as the 4.9. That’s an amazing engine
I have seen both the Napier and the Darracq at Prescott. The sound is incredible and the Darracq driver must have had balls of steel to take that corner like that! No seatbelt.
TRACTOR JD PREMIUM NEED ?
holy shit the torque on those massive engines
Clarkson’s GT had a revlimiter that stopped the engine at 600RPM.
Also, about that number 1 spot.... Are you sure that’s not just a low-power modern truck engine? Because the way the specs compare to another is eerily close...
Lowest revving car I ever had was the vw type 3, with red line around 4600 or so, it was also the slowest car I ever had.
Also the BMW v12 is the same solution a guy I know came up with for engines over 8 cylinder for delco 808 ECU conversions. Real time tuning of dual ECUs via the same PC/laptop is pretty neat, they are seen as one unit by the software.
One you missed was the GM iron duke engine which was a 2.5 liter I4 and only revved to 5000 RPM, and was used in many cars
VisioRacer, The Fiat S76 probably doesn't even get pushed to the true 2,000 RPM redline, At the Goodwood Festival of Speed all your ever going to hear the engine being pushed to is around 1,200 RPM, Duncan Pittaway is the driver and had it restored in November 2014, Many large engines don't get pushed to redline often, I wonder why?
4:29 I am so fooocking impressed :O
8:50 That is just plain ANGRY!
That last one is looks utterly terrifying
In the early days of cars I can understand low rev limits and massive cylinders to get power but leave it to the murica people to have V8 that have less rpm than a common car diesel engine.
Why make an engine spin 10k RPM when you can have it make the same power at 4k RPM while drastically reducing engine wear and cost? We did it right!
Also surprised to not see the General Motors 305 v6 topping out at around 3600 rpms lol
I think you missed the Buick 3800 V6, redlining at 5800rpm and the AMC 4.0L I6, found in various Jeeps redlining just over 5000rpm.
The Darracq 200 is still being raced by Mark Walker, its current owner (the car has had only two owners since the Darracq factory built it). His arm-flailing style, with lurid slides and drifts, is one of the most thrilling sights in all of motor-racing, past or present. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/SgN1387v4sA/видео.html
I like the fact that they designed, and manufactured a 28k cc 4 banger to break the speed limit, but nobody questioned those sausage cycling tires
love that noise on 2:00
Just imagine. Our generation of enthusiasts is probably gonna look same as the guys @ 9:00 but we gonna be watching straight piped Skylines and 350Zs hahaha
Also the viper motor was a hopped up truck v10 originally.
The last one is just terrifying.
The derraqc did hold the land speed record for a short time at 109mph in 1905 and held it for nearly a month. .
actually the 6.8 isn't sourced from the 5.4.
the 5.4, 6.8 and 4.6 were all the modular, or triton series, and were produced together to an identical design, just with varying displacements and numbers of cylinders
it was meant to give an option between the 7.3 Powerstroke (Navastar D444E) and the 5.4.
You missed a number of engines that notably revs quite low. One notable example is the Talbot-Lago T26C, one of the earliest cars conforming to what became Formula 1. It had a 4.5 litre engine that only revs to about 4500rpm. There were several videos of those cars on RUclips, including several onboards of cars being raced.
You included the M70 and the Triton V10 but not the Toyota 2UZ-FE??
It would satisfy my OCD if you switched the torque rating to LB-FT first, then NM after to line up with the above HP/KW units. Easier to read also, thanks love the vids.
I really enjoy your videos

The vortec, one of my favorite sounding gm engines honestly.
I remember my grandfather had an 65 Ford Taunus V4 with a redline of around 4500 rpm but enough torque to drive in any gear from the standstill 😀
The V10 Triton was also the gas alternative to the 7.3 Powerstroke. Cummins engines were never put in Ford trucks

GM's LA1 V6 only makes power between 2K and 5K RPM and peaks at 3800. Redline on the guage goes to 7, but that's only there for downshifts. Doesn't lack torque for what it is, but it runs out of breath quickly on the top end. Not as low as some of the engines in this video, but it's not a revving engine by modern standards.
I’m somewhat of a magnum fanboy, but I’ve never actually seen the V10 Rams, and because I never looked it up, I questioned whether they even existed...
But what about my Aprilia RX? It's 70cc 2-stroke single cylinder puts out a whopping 0 rpm

8:55 look at that shake form the engine that thing is barely a skeleton somebody went near 200 kph driving that. The only reason that car didn't break the land speed record was because the bloke's balls was weighing it down.
I think your definition of low revving is different than mine
BMW M70B50: A lot of exact details - but a single mistake: BORE X STROKE is NOT 91.0 mm x 84.0 mm, BUT is 84.0 mm x 75.0 mm ... I have the very engine in my own 1990 BMW E31 850i ...
I love it when people restore ancient cars and drive them the way they were meant to be driven.
You know your build is serious when you need a fire extinguisher to counter the exhaust flames after cold start
I like a 4 liter twin turbo FPC V8 that revs over 9000 and makes over 1400 hp featuring a 5 valves per cylinder DOHC valvetrain, titanium 3D printed pistons and rods, and Garrett VNT dual boost turbochargers.
Alot of old OHV engines wouldn't rev (or like to) much past 5000... but they were torquey
