I'm NOT a surfboard nerd, but I surf a lot here in Bali and across Indonesia. Here's my current quiver. I consider myself a decent intermediate surfer, comfortably surfing up to 8 foot reefbreak, can get barreled on forehand and backhand, and am fairly competent in most surf situations... but definitely not a charger. Here's my standard go-to surfboards.
Let me know what you think!
That little swallow tail with the blue rails looks sick!
goes good! I should have brought it to N sumatra in place of the 5 3".
Hello Chris, I been watching you for years to rehab my body and surf advice. Heading to Bali.Surfin for years. I want to buy a board there. Mostly Surfin nusa dua area. Mushrooms to and some Gregory. What type of all around board would you recommend? Loaded questions I know. I’ve been surfing 40 years. Still shortboard and used to eb and at times above average surfer. Can still crave and hit it (if my back allows😅). Usually on 32-34 liters . Not taking boards cause the airline I chose. Buying there
I am going to Bali for 2 weeks and spend 3 days in G-land. I weight 175 lb and surf mostly on weekends now but I consider my self an intermediate surfer. I have a 6’0” Sharp Eye Disco Cheater (e2- epoxy) with 33.9 liters and a 6’4” Stepdriver Lost (34.5 Poly). I am thinking if I should bring another board like a 6’6” or 6’8” in case it is 6 to 8 proper G-Land. I know my 6’4” can handle some size but I don’t want to be undergunned on the day of days 😂
if you're a SOLID high level intermediate surfer, a 6 4" could probably suffice for most size... BUT, it's always a good idea to have something bigger there. I've had quite a few sessions where I wish I had something around the 6 6" mark. it's an amazing wave!
thanks for the advice.
Hai sir.. want to ask u..how much the surfboard
What about something like a hypto? Im looking to travel light and have one in my quiver use it as a daily, any thoughts? Great vid btw thanks
Watch my more recent video about mentawais quiver. Some waves, sure a hypo would work, but for a lot of waves you’d want something higher performance depending on your skill level
Io! Twin and tri? No single dude. Go on retro midlenght singlefin is good too! Cheers. Nice quiver but prefer to have different sizes and PU for sure. ;) cheers
i've actually wanted a good single fin for a while, but haven't found one i'm thrilled with. and yeah, I much prefer epoxy for the majority of waves I surf. i find epoxy / PU to be largely personal preference.
i hope you can review that rockwell more.
I wish I could surf it more! I'm in Australia and it's stuck in Bali.
Oh my god man, how can you live there with a 6'3" as your biggest board? Get a 7'0" poly (a little weight is good when its big) and charge Ulu . Having a board with serious paddle power and a long rail to hold in the face will give you a lot of confidence in waves that previously intimidated you.
I've got a 7 6" stored at a buddies house. I've been watching around for another decent 7 6" ! Have had a few good goes on it at G-land
You mention that twinnies work best for you frontside, you should try an asym thats twin on your toes and quad on your heels, you will be amazed.
Have you surfed while shroom fueled?
robert moses years ago in Costa Rica. I’d actually like to have another go in some casual fun 3 foot
Hats off to you guys🤙 Reckon I’d just spend 3hrs standing next to my Ute staring into my wax job.
whats ur length and weight?
I'm 5 11" and weight 165-170 lbs
what model clayton do you ride
I've got an all new quiver now in Australia. They're all customs so not really built off a particular model. I used to surf Havok's often.
@@SurfStrengthCoach what board would you ride for smaller socal surf like 2-4ft
@@cyberxdeth any of the standard CI models or other major brands. I've never surfed so-cal so can't speak from personal experience. different boards for good days vs. crap days. I reckon if I went to CA i'd easily surf a CI New Flyer
@@SurfStrengthCoach right on! I tend to really enjoy more hybrid shapes. Im currently riding a 5'5 bat tail quad shaped by Andrew Doheny for those conditions. If it gets a bit better I take out my 5'10 lost sub driver in carbon wrap. They're both 27.5L the only difference is the carbon wrap is epoxy and stringer-less, i just feel like it doesn't have the drive down the line that i am looking for, it really does keep great pace in the pocket so it really performs in some rip bowls or at a wave like lowers but just not as much to get across the flats or in less than great conditions
What is your weigth?
165lbs
thanks mate. do you keep the same width in the 63 step up ?
honestly, I don't recall what those DIM's were on the 6 3". it was the standard chili model and then tweaked the volume a bit, didn't mess with the width too much. I left that board in bail when we lift at the start of covid. it's now been snapped in half via padang padang by a buddy
