    5 Drills For Better Serve Rhythm And Timing (Tennis Lesson)

    1. Put ball basket inside court so you’re forced to move forward during your serve to get the next ball
    2. Say “1-2-3” or “turn-toss-hit” to keep a beat while serving
    3. Practice the “figure 8” serve motion to keep your serve loose and rhythmic
    4. Hold on with only 3 finger tips to force a loose and smooth motion
    5. Serve with your eyes closed to groove the proper serve rhythm and timing (toss lower
    to make it easier)

    You got this!

    That’s a crazy low ball toss. I love it. I’ve actually never seen anyone who can hit the ball while it’s still on the rise or at apex of the toss like you do there. Even the quickest servers like Kyrgios, Dolgopolov or Ivanisevic.

      I saw this on my instagram feed the other day. I also thought kyrgios tossed higher too. instagram.com/p/CQ0Qs33DIVf/?

    Closed eyes and practice rhythm toss up are great. A little bit rush for me thought. Thanks for posting it.

    Dude I am forever indebted to you! I have a pretty good 4.5 serve but I’ve been struggling with consistency really badly lately. I watched your video last night and decided to implement the turn,toss, hit cadence into today’s match and I without a doubt had my best serving match ever! I wasn’t turning!! 🙃 absolute game changer! Thank you thank you thank you

    Where is your toss placement btw? It appears to be almost parallel to the baseline? I'm thinking of doing that because I normally toss 45 degrees in but I'm just not consistent. thanks

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 года назад

      The toss is into the court when practicing serving with the basket in front of you. When doing figure 8 it’s within reach so that you don’t move. The others it’s in front as well.

    Love the basket tip. However that ball toss is way too low for me...I would just feel rushed. Counting is still a good tip though. (For anyone who like me needs a higher ball toss, I still count, but my count starts at 1 when I release the ball and ends on 3 when I hit the serve)

    • @paddlepower888
      @paddlepower888 3 года назад +1

      That low toss has been uncomfortable for me too, because I learned to play tennis before the internet. No one ever taught me to push the ball up lower than I did for forever. I'm just going to work on this until it becomes second nature. It just seems to work for Ryan in this lesson so I want it to work for me. Happy hitting!

    Hey Ryan! The idea on the ball holder in front to force you to move your weight forward is very nice! And the eyes closed. Wow. Thank you man.
    Also, how would you compare the sensation on contact, between your Wilson Ultra and the Bab Pure Drive?

    basket position is good tip. holding the racket lightly is another. closing eyes is voodoo crap. We cannot toss the ball that consistent. I'll try the counting and figure 8 move. It sounds promising.

    Hey Ryan...great stuff as always...I've experimented with serve grip pressure actually holding the grip tighter and I feel as though I release all that stored energy thru contact...next time give it a try and would love to hear your feedback ...thanks

    Leaving the courts today, I stopped to gab with a friend, who complimented me on my serve. I said, “it’s a 2minutetennis serve.” She asked me to watch her serve, consistent but soft & floaty. I said I used the “turn, toss, hit” tip. She tried it and was ecstatic to get better power on her serve!

    I often forget to include BREATHING as an element of my serve rhythm. Inhaling as the service motion begins allows me to exhale as I make contact with the ball. Holding my breath robs me of significant power and tension release.A conscious decision to breathe includes making vocal noise at impact so that you'll have feedback of this rhythm enhancement.

    Very useful tips and examples to follow. I only had to adjust my grip differently due to my injured arm, but all the rest works well. But... how tall are you? It seems to me that the ball passes easily the net, even if you don't jump when you hit. Another thing: I use your video also to practice listening to English, as your pronunciation is very clear and understandable ;)

    Ryan, I find that lower tosses (as your recent video promoted) do not provide for the full rhythmic serve sequence.
    Also, so many women on WTA have high tosses - 100÷ mph on 5'5" tall gals.
