Could it be that what ever was in that huge load of compost a couple years ago is slowly becoming less of a problem? The year of the compost was terrible. The second year not quite as bad and now the third year just a bit better. Maybe there is something that was brought in with that compost? I believe it was "Gardening With Leon" you tube channel that discussed a type of herbicide that is used on high quality hay fields. The herbicide stays in the hay. The horses pass the herbicide through their system and the herbicide is still intact in the manure. If you compost the manure, the herbicide stays in the compost. You might look into testing your soil for lingering herbicides.

I've binge watched all your pumpkin videos, in order, to this one so far. Thank you for sharing all the info that you do. You've mentioned that your patch is 30' wide. What is the length? Are both patches the same size?

@@justtinkering6054 thanks! Each pumpkin in patch 2 is 30’ wide by 35’ long. Just over 1k sq/ft. Patch 1 is slightly smaller.

Which miticide are you trying? I’ve got mites here in Rocklin too. I’ve hit them with bifenthrin and will be hitting them with permethrin if it doesn’t help.

I only had Bayer 3:1 which has a miticide in it. I purchased Avid but havent used it yet. Did you find bifenthrin effective?

It slowed them down but I already need to reapply and it has only been 5 days

@@jakerl17 yeah, i am seeing the same thing. I think the best we can do is spray thoroughly every week and try and break the cycle. Wish I had noticed them earlier.
